Default Should I do it?? Reply With Quote

There is a Prada handbag that I am on the brink of purchasing. It is 2 grand and I am absolutely obsessed with it. Ladies, should I go ahead and take the plunge. The bills are all paid off so this is just a splurge. I am trying to justify it and say it is an early birthday gift to myself.

If you've had your eye on it and there's no other bills pending, go for it. Something like that is an investment piece. You can never go wrong with a Prada bag!

What a waste of 2 G's.

Nobody beside you will even know you spent that much on a bag and those who do might think there's a lot better things you could've spent 2 G' on.

just my .02.

I think you'll look back in a couple yrs and think it's a cool purse but not for that much $$ and wish you had that money still.

I gotta agree here. The initial thrill of OMFG 2G! will be cool, but after that? No one will really know, some might not care.... and gods forbid you have an emergency and that 2G aint there.

Yeah, no kidding. $2000 on a handbag?? It's just going to get dirty and full of junk, and what's the point? There are cute purses for $20 at DSW - 1% of what you're talking about!

If you just need to throw away $2000, you can give it to me and I'll do something productive with it! Or hell, give it to charity or put it in savings. There are people starving on this planet, and there's no damn reason to spend $2000 on a damn purse.

For 2G's the purse better have wheels under it so I can get in a ride around. Or come with a Bachelors from Harvard inside.

if you can afford it and don't need the two grand for any higher prioritized things then go for it.

Agreed^^^^ I have been know to drop serious money on bags. Go for it, if you wait to long, they won't be making it anymore.

My Louis Vuitton Murakami Cherry Blossom Papillion (Summer 2003) was going for twice as much as I paid for it at the LV store ($950), on Ebay last time I checked.

Enjoy yourself once in a while, if you can afford it

I love nice things, but honestly I'm not dropping 2 grand on a purse. Even if you have the money to spare, there are a ton of things you can do with that amount of money that will be more beneficial in the long run. But that's just my way of thinking.

I'm with everyone who votes to NOT buy the purse. I would rather have that 2G turn into 4G and then even more a year from now than a purse that might be stolen ruined or what-have-you and thus there is no real return on the investment.

Are you that much of a label whore? Seriously?! I just don't "get" what it is with people and labels. I rather buy something that works and works well than a label.

I think if the bills are paid, and you have savings( meaning, the 2 grand on the purse is not going to break you for the rest of the motnh) then buy it. Everyone deserves a splurge once in awhile. As logn as your not going to get tired of it in 2 weeks and become obsessed with another one. Make sure its something you really want, and will use for a long time, and get a lot of pleasure from.

Also, befor eyou buy it, search around different websites to see if you can get it cheaper. Check ebay, check www.bagborroworsteal.com, see if you can find it discounted somewhere. Then it will really be thrilling if youcan score your 2g bag for a great deal!

Well so you have a fetish for purses. If so, When is your birthday. Is it real soon sweetie. If so I will get it. I like to indulge myself with nice gifts. Or you can see if you can get it on ebay for cheaper. Than invest or save the rest.

Holy smokes, $2000 for a handbag? I don't get it. Especially for something that so quickly loses value and can easily be stolen. But if you're entirely debt free and have 6 months of cash reserves, by all means reward yourself!(((The voice of your future calling to nag you)))

Once when I worked in the theater industry in NYC a coworker and I went shopping and he bought a $350 pair of Gaultier sunglasses (this was 16 years ago). We had been working like crazy on a few shows that were about to open so we thought we were rich. What we didn't know (it was our first season) was that once the shows opened there was NO work to be had anywhere. My friend ended up subletting his apartment and sleeping in the hall. He was so upset about having bought those sunglasses he couldn't even take them out of the case!

Just be sure if you buy the handbag you truly are rich and are not just trying to look like you are. You don't want to end up having to live out of it a few months later. I know designer things can be beautiful but it's kind of a scam that you are paying a designer so much money to do their advertising.

I am going into fashion design. I will tell you, go for it. If you want it and can afford it, by all means. By buying a designer handbag, you are paying for very high quality materials(and yes you also pay for the name). It will (should) last you forever. If something happens(zipper breaks, stitching comes undone) to the bag, the manufacture should repair it. My mom has some high quality designer leather bags from before i was born that are still in good shape. As long as you take care of it! Just make sure it is something you reaally can afford to do. And happy birthday! GOOD LUCK

No!
You could buy an entire wardrobe with two gs,
or pay for an associates at community college,
get a decent used car,
invest in google,
start a roth ira,
get a decent laptop,
buy a bunch of new stripper clothes and write them off your taxes,
anything would be better then a new purse, silly.

If you honestly can part with the money without any stress or regrets, I reckon you should go buy yourself the purse. Personally, I think is a very rewarding feeling to treat yourself with something lavish and extreme. And really, if you take care of the bag, it will hold through for many, many years.

Will you like it as much as you do now in a month? What about a year?

If the answer is yes, then go for it. But if you're like me, then the answer is no....especially is there is something like a vacation that will give you as much immediate leasure as that bag. The memories from vacation last forever and get better with time!

Well, how much is $2k to you? I mean I guess it's relative to what you make. I'm not asking you what you make but just to think about it. What percent of your monthly income is $2k? Also think also about how long you'll use it. I have a LV bag I used for at least 10 years. If you'll use it a while and a lot then it's not as bad as if you'll be done with it six months from now.

I love purses. I have one I recently fell in love with and found one on ebay for about the same price you are looking at. However, I have too many other things I need to do with my money first before buying a handbag for that much. However, I can totally understand the desire to buy it and wouldn't think less of anyone who did.

Btw, is it just me or are purses getting waayyyy more expensive than they used to be a few years ago? Am I just getting old? I picked up a Marc Jacobs bag today at Saks that was on clearance and the price was still $975. WTF????

Hmm. My posessions added up probably aren't worth 2G...it's up to you, because you worked for the money. But I think there are alot more worthwhile things to spend that money on.
