My club was raided

I wasn't working, thank God. I got a phone call today to come look through stuff, apparently every locker was ripped open and all the clothes were just thrown everywhere. The cops completely trashed the DR, broke down the door to the penthouse suite (even though no one was in there) and took all the cameras and computers in the entire place. They also took money (the safe, the bar, the LD area, even off of girls garters!) The marijuana and pills were found in dancers lockers, and we all know that goes on everywhere.

I'm upset.

Why did they take money from the girls who were just working? That does not make sense. Cops are not allowed to just randomly take money from people.

Yeah, if the cops tried to take MY hard earned money I would have let them know something about stealing, taking money without permission and probable cause. Unless they are arresting me my money is NOT their property, and even at that point they would have to prove it was connected to an actual crime to take it into evidence. Otherwise I would just get it back when I was released.

The media will always blow stuff up. They mentioned "drugs" like three times but never said anything besides pills and marijuana. I take several prescription medications that I need, so I certainly hope if my club is ever raided they won't take my medication... one of my medications costs $3,400 for 90 pills...treating my chronic nausea. I can't afford to "wait" for them to give it back, I need it. I also take Xanax. I may need one of those medications while I'm working so I'm not going to leave them in my car, I have a right to bring them with me. I'd be worried they'd try to pin me with drug dealing if someone else had Xanax though. Xanax lasts eight hours so I guess I'll just take one before work and leave that in my car, nausea medication ain't shit.

I'm sorry your club got raided, glad you weren't there. I'm sure it'll pan out to be a bunch of BS and blow over soon.

Some clubs don't allow you to put your meds in your locker because apparently if the club is raided they think you are 'selling'. Most places let you keep them behind the bar, or your car is a good idea.

This shit is literally so freakin ridiculous though. Where else in the world could cops TAKE your money and YOUR meds with YOUR name on them??

Oh ps Laurisa, you have chronic nausea, what from? I get it sometimes too... I think I had a thread at one point. I think mine may be acid reflux.

I don't have acid reflux, they aren't sure what causes it. I take a chemotheraphy medication to soothe my nausea, in a smaller dose than someone who actually was going through chemotheraphy would use.

We've done lots of tests, nothing has come up yet. :shrug;

They took everything into "evidence." There was a customer last night in from Arizona, asking for his wallet because he needed his credit cards and driver's liscense to fly home. Management couldn't do anything to help him, the cops have it. And the "drugs" they found? Two pain pills and an eighth of weed. I really feel bad for the girls who were there, though. Apparently the cops wouldn't even let a girl that had been nude on stage get dressed, she was sitting on the floor naked for hours. Told her "Well look where you work. Strippers are the scum of the earth anyway."

I remember when clubs used to get raided back in my rave days, they would come in and arrest kids that had nothing on them and make shit up (I knew this for a fact because I knew some of them personally). They almost tried to arrest ME saying I put something down my pants once. Total bullshit. This is one of the main things that would scare me about working in a club.. They can just pin shit on you if that's what gets them off.

What were the firearms they found? Did they belong to the security guards?

Lawsuit against the city/police. Your club needs to stand up for itself and so do the girls. Forcing someone to be nude is sexual harassment even if it is in a strip club.

One of the handguns did belong to a bouncer. The rest of the guns were locked in the office safe. They are registered, but its illegal to have firearms in a place that serves alcohol. But honestly, some form of protection is necessary. If something at a strip club went down, the police probably wouldn't care. They aren't exactly reliable around here:

Alright, if a news outlet published my address without my permission I would definitely take them to court. That is ENDANGERING my privacy because the industry is NOT one in which you make friends with customers and invite them over for tea (less yous a OTC whore). They should know better than to post dancers' REAL FULL names AND their addresses. Do they realize a crazy customer could show up at their house and stalk them? Seriously. These girls are forever endanger living at those addresses, and now people have their names so they could be looked up and stalked in the future.

I'm going to E-Mail that news outlet right now and tell them what I think.

With extremely few exceptions, anybody that is arrested is subject to 'public record' disclosure of police records. The fact that such a 'public record' disclosure may increase the risk of another 'crime' being committed against the person arrested is speculative and unprovable. I'm not saying that I agree with these legal interpretations, but they are what they are.

I would also point out that the publication of 'public record' arrest info by a local newspaper with an online edition will probably result in internet search engines making database entries involving 'dancer's name', 'dancer's address', strip club, drug charges, prostitution charges etc. Thus at some future point when a potential employer Googles a job applicant with 'dancer's name', 'dancer's address', this incident is extremely likely to 'pop up' for years to come.

Again from a purely legal standpoint, LE does have the power to sieze potential 'evidence' of criminal activity ... and hold it until the charges are officially resolved. Some laws also allow for the forfeiture of money and other tangible assets that were acquired by illegal means.

Agreed that there is a fair chance that such a lawsuit could succeed. It will be interesting to say the least how LE will attempt to justify siezure of money from dancers and customers who were not actually arrested / charged with crimes. Undoubtedly the 'child protection' angle will figure in somewhere i.e. suspicion / (bogus) charges of girls under 18 working in this nude club.

But like most things in the real world, the costs of filing such a lawsuit will probably greatly exceed the amount of money that was siezed by LE. Thus you'd be dependent on a jury's willingness to award damages in order to 'break even'. How likely is it that your typical collection of insecure housewives, bible thumping retirees, civil servants etc. will side with the 'strippers' against 'fine upstanding' local cops ?

As soon as the economy went south I quit dancing due to stuff like this. I feel sorry for the girls and have no love for cops anyway
