up date since i got Lucky, she's just about the nicest animal I could have asked for. I'd adopt another without hesitation and will probably do so in the future. Great dogs.

3440234403Awe, you all have some really adorable fur babies! I have four cats: Q (white), Gracie (siamese), Onion (orange and white) & Rummi (persian). We lost our beloved Vegas (siberian husky) to cancer last August (2012), so in December we added Diesel to our family.

This is going to be long. I have a lot of fur kids.

This is Fyodor. He's going to be 15 in July. He kept showing up on my doorstep, until I figured out that he was meant to be my little buddy. That was 14 years ago.
http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh561/oksanadances/Mobile%20Uploads/20140327_101432_zpsyudobqos_edit_1428090897833_zps picghjwi.jpg (http://s1252.photobucket.com/user/oksanadances/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140327_101432_zpsyudobqos_edit_1428090897833_zps picghjwi.jpg.html)

This is Clarissa, the shelter kitty that nobody wanted because she was a complete neurotic mess. I knew she just needed some love. Her snuggle buddy is Mischa, my only non rescue ferret. I went to Petco for food and he was sleeping on the cashiers shoulder. I couldn't resist. He was the tiniest little kit but grew into a 5 pound bruiser!
http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh561/oksanadances/Mobile%20Uploads/5896850410111212194_zpsgpji7erb.jpg (http://s1252.photobucket.com/user/oksanadances/media/Mobile%20Uploads/5896850410111212194_zpsgpji7erb.jpg.html)

This is Lara, my rescue kitty. Again, I went to Petco and a local animal rescue was having an adoption event. They had some cute dogs and, since I know I can't handle a dog right now, I thought I wouldn't be tempted. Then I turn around and there's little Lara. The volunteer let me hold her, Lara mewed and sneezed right in my face. Yep, that's Lara.
http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh561/oksanadances/Mobile%20Uploads/20150319_130334_zpsfy4jafk4_edit_1428100916470_zps b9x0ivj9.jpg (http://s1252.photobucket.com/user/oksanadances/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150319_130334_zpsfy4jafk4_edit_1428100916470_zps b9x0ivj9.jpg.html)
Fawkes was my first ferret. My ex brought her home, having no idea how to care for a ferret. So, he treated her like a dog, which doesn't really work for ferrets. After being spanked, flicked on the nose and treated really badly, she developed a really bad biting problem. When he left, I kept her and started trying to help her get over the biting. She's almost 4 now and has learned that hands are for petting and love.
http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh561/oksanadances/Mobile%20Uploads/20150329_212424_zpszw6gecyc_edit_1428098079753_zps ug5x7ymg.jpg (http://s1252.photobucket.com/user/oksanadances/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150329_212424_zpszw6gecyc_edit_1428098079753_zps ug5x7ymg.jpg.html)

This is Yuri. He has Waardenberg Syndrome and is completely deaf. Nobody wanted a "handicapped" ferret, so the staff at Petco begged me to take him. He's a little bouncing, squealing tornado... until he crashes out in my lap. He was named after Yuri Gagarin, because he always has his head way up like he's stargazing and he often stares off into space, both common behaviors of deaf ferrets. So, I named my little space cadet after the first man in space.
http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh561/oksanadances/Mobile%20Uploads/20150221_211442_zpsocnskwvg.jpg (http://s1252.photobucket.com/user/oksanadances/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150221_211442_zpsocnskwvg.jpg.html)

This is Mr. Jack. I was buying ferret food and the cashier was asking a lot of questions about my ferrets. As it turns out, somebody had dumped two ferrets there, who'd been cooped up in a small dog carrier for who knows how long and fed poor quality dog food. Jack has adrenal disease and had lost most of his fur, so he kind of looked like a naked mole rat. After a lot of love, good food and monthly Lupron injections, he's put on almost a pound and has a beautiful coat growing in. He was pretty nervous about me, but now he asks to be picked up and gives great ferret kisses.

http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh561/oksanadances/Mobile%20Uploads/20150329_212550_zpsimbepl4v_edit_1428098120908_zps zi5kopst.jpg (http://s1252.photobucket.com/user/oksanadances/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150329_212550_zpsimbepl4v_edit_1428098120908_zps zi5kopst.jpg.html)

This is Zoe, Jack's sister. It became obvious pretty quickly that she'd been abused. I couldn't pick her up without gloves, because she'd bite viciously. We've gotten past most of it and she's become a very happy, playful little girl. She's my climber and can climb up my jacket to sit on my shoulder. We still have some issues when she's hyper and rambunctious but she play nips now, instead of trying to rip my hand off.

Just rescued another! These are his shelter pics. Now we have four cats - we're only allowed to have two in our current apartment. I wouldn't ever have any more than four cats at one time. But I just couldn't resist!

So... Atticus has 3 legs. We don't know what happened to him, the pound said he was limping on that leg and nothing helped, so they just amputated it. He is definitely aware that it's gone, as some of his mannerisms show, but he outruns most 4-legged dogs and uses the missing leg as an advantage since he can fit in narrower places now... like in a chair between his people. He's only 2 and we're probably his 3rd home. He LOVES his ball; does not want to fetch, just wants to carry it around and show it to you. He'll hide it before going outside, and immediately go get it when he returns. He hops around with his tongue flopping and is obviously kind of clumsy, so he gets called Derp a lot.

Nately is the first dog that's ever really made me "his person". I went to a shelter way out in BFE, intending to get a different dog, but he got adopted 20 mins before I arrived. Nately was jumping around like a nut in his kennel, so I went "Aw let's just let him out for a minute". I didn't think he was cute, at ALL, but I felt bad taking him out and putting him back, so I adopted him (now I think he's adorable; he looks totally different than when he was in the shelter). He was only 8 months old, had been adopted and returned twice so I was his 4th owner. In the first 3 hours he was home, he ate the Thanksgiving turkey carcass off the counter, and while I was cleaning that up he ripped down the curtains... it was apparent why he'd been returned twice ::) Now he's a sweetheart that just wants to cuddle with me and pretend he's a greyhound at the park. He's very smart but incredibly weird.

(now I think he's adorable; he looks totally different than when he was in the shelter).

For real. People never account for how much an animal's appearance will change once it's introduced into a stable, stress-free environment with high-quality food. We rescued a cat recently that was covered in wiry, patchy tufts of tangled, dull fur, who now has gloriously soft, sleek, color-saturated fur with a flowing mane. We're talking Cinderella-story type changes. And that seems pretty typical for rescued animals.

(Good for you for rescuing!!!)

^ Thanks :D He didn't look physically bad or unhealthy... just kind of sad and desperate, so he hung his ears at this funny angle too, and looked like a mutt. I mean, he is a mutt, but he's happy now and doesn't look like that negative connotation kind of "mutt".

That probably makes no sense but I tried.

That's Hobbes on the left with Jazz on the right, which brings us to four brothers. Found the lot of them late one rainy evening. Actually, it was Roosevelt who found me. I heard him crying and as I got closer, he ran right up to me. Then I heard another meow and then another. Roosevelt was the only one who had figured out how to get inside the fence. I scooped up Jazz and Riley, and thought that was all until I heard yet another meow. The kitten who would be known as Hobbes was stuck high up in a tree. Getting him down was a challenge, but I eventually had the four brothers safe and dry. I didn't initially plan on keeping them all, but you know how that worked out. Seven years later, they're still brothers, each with a very distinct personality.

Roosevelt is the adventurous leader and especially close to our Wookie-like dog, Annie. He also likes to steal pens.
Riley is the sly, slinky ninja. He frequently demands belly rubs.
Jazz is the friendliest, most cheerful cat ever. He never stops purring.
Hobbes will devour nearly anything. He once grabbed an ear of corn- unshucked- from the counter and ate the whole thing.

Here's is Pickles the Grand Dame that lives with me. You will notice that judging stare. She's 14 years old (she's older than my 12 yo little brother) and I've had her since she was born. She gets around pretty well but I think she is losing her hearing. She's an inside/outside cat.

Those eyes! ♡♡♡

Wikipedia's entry on odd-eye cats (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odd-eyed_cat) claims that the Prophet Muhammad had a cat with those distinctive eyes.

It is told that Muhammad awoke one day to the sounds of the Adhan, the Muslim daily call to prayer. Preparing to attend, he began to dress himself; however, he soon discovered his cat Muezza sleeping on the sleeve of his prayer robe. Rather than wake her, he used a pair of scissors to cut the sleeve off, leaving the cat undisturbed. On perhaps a separate occasion, upon returning from the mosque, Muhammad received a bow from Muezza. He then stroked his beloved cat three times, bestowing the ability for cats to land on all fours.
