Do they only sell tofu and paneer in health food stores?

^^ Not anymore! I can't remember the last time I went to any grocery store that didn't sell tofu. You just have to now where to look. In more standard grocery stores they tend to stock it in the produce section (look at the specialty items along the sides). Some regular grocery stores that also have large natural food sections will stock it there instead. Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Alfalfa's and the like tend to stock tofu, tempeh, seitan, and such in or next to the dairy section, instead of the produce.

Paneer isn't limited to 'health food stores', though it may be available at places like Whole Foods and ethnic markets rather than, say, Pathmark.

I see tofu everywhere but I've never seen paneer at a store. I've only seen it in restaurants. But maybe that's just because I don't like paneer and I'm not out looking for it.

Oh my God I'm such a moron. I was looking in the frozen foods vegetarian section and couldn't find anything. No wonder. I should know better because when I was younger I worked in a Shop Rite and I remember the tofu being in the produce section. :-[

The only time I had paneer was from a Wawa in the next town over that got turned into a little Indian shop, I don't even know if the place is still open.
