Still haven't heard from my dad; they left their house hours & hours ago & said they'd call when they got settled. I know the powers that be are discouraging cell phone use - I hope that's why. Or maybe service is down in some areas?

^ I just tried to call my bf to make sure he was okay but I couldn't get through... and yet my friend just called my cell right before. I think it depends on the area at the time. Depending on traffic, it may take a few hours to get where he needs to get to.

^^Its been iffy for some people today. Theres only been like 7 hospitalizations here. My mom got to call me though for awhile. So keep trying or texting. There are 7 major evac places but 5 are full and there are little ones throughout the county. I'm pretty sure they are safe since they left early.

i live in san diego too- and Im kinda worried about my money situation. my sister just moved in with me last week and we spent alot on getting her settled in (matress, bedroom set, furniture, etc.) and now this happens and most of the clubs have shut down so there is no where to work- what should I do? I have about 1300 in savings and I am willing to travel but most of the major freeways out of the county eastbound are closed!what do you think i should do?? what are you other sd girls going to do?

Going back out now. Managed to sleep too, amazing. My work is gonna be closed for at least 2 days, so I'll probably stay out pretty late.

I'll be the first to tell ya if PB goes up, believe me. I'm right on the bay though, so i'll just push my place into the water.

The wind is getting retarded. Gusts of up to 60-70mph. The weather is doing exactly what we don't want.

I might get stuck up north so you LA people be prepared to give me cookies.

For those of you who are healthy, Red Cross is begging for blood. I'm type 0 negative so they love me.

Unfortunately, hospitals up North had to evacuate, so a lot of sick people getting relocated.

The sad part is, San Diego is set up very poorly for volunteer emergency personnel. Things could have went a lot better if they had nurtured a volunteer fire fighter cadre.

Eastlake/Otay?

On fire and people evacuated from what I know.

La Jolla is ok right now.

Seeya in a few hours, I'll post when I take a break from my phone.

I hope I don't get a tan.

bianca- Where do you work now? What clubs are closed?

TigersMilk
10-22-2007, 09:36 PM
bianca, I don't have to work until Wednesday so I don't know about clubs. If I can't work this week then I'll make it up in the weeks coming. If you have family that can help ask them if you need to. There are credit cards if you have any. The freeways to get out are closed; its better to be broke than sorry.

NinaDaisy

...its better to be broke than sorry.

Or dead.

Or burned over 90% of your body.

Sucks to not make money, but a lot of things suck more.

Hang in there.

DON'T PANIC!!!
I just spoke with mgmnt at the Hustler Club on Midway Drive. They will be open over the next few days. They are in Point Loma, a safer area. They are actually busy tonight. I'd go in, but I've got a fever and sore throat.

I will be there tomorrow for $2 Tuesday and ready to bank.

Maybe we can all work together! Wooooo!

A Hustler club staying open in the midst of a disaster? I can't even feign shock.

If the club burned down from the fires they'd set up plastic lawn chairs and still try to get the house fees from the dancers. They'd probably impose a sudden increase in them with no justification to cover the cost.

I do hope you guys can make some money. I know people gotta eat. Still, this is just another example of how fucked up any club owned by Deja Vu has a propensity to be.

Even if a club is open, I can't imagine getting many customers in... Even if they WEREN'T running for their lives, the roads are impossible... I suggest staying home, waiting it out, and living off whatever you have stocked up. It probably won't last more than a couple of days...

When I called the HC this evening they said it was busy. :O

I also saw on the news a few hours ago that they had a BAND playing at the Q.

the 'tin foil hat' crowd would tell you that these 'mysterious' simultaneous wildfires are God's gift to subprime homeowners with unaffordable ARM's, to mortgage brokers, to homebuilders, and to real estate agents !

Oh damn - this is why I love you, Melonie. :D

Quoted for truth. Fuck Hustler/Deja Vu!!! I wouldn't work for them if they were the last strip club on Earth!

But on a more serious note, I just want to say I hope all my SD neighbors stay safe. Riverside county is just a little too northeast to get the fires, but DAMN we can smell y'all burning. The winds are out of control too.
Best of luck and take care everyone!!

I'm really tired, but I'm worried that maybe they'll call for an evacuation while I'm asleep. I guess if they thought this neighborhood would be in danger they would have evacuated it before 11 at night.

Posting from another fire area. I'm not too far from Malibu, but so far not in fire danger. The air quality is bad. The Santa Clarita area is now insane w/ flames. It's basically the next town over from one of the clubs I work in.

I'm going to try to find a way that I can volunteer. If anyone knows any sites that have info about this, let me know.

And ladies and Shot, be careful and take care of you.

I couldn't sleep much last night. Its all the way up near spring valley now. Great news is that the heavy lifting helicopters are here from the national guard! We have a few of those and some of our own soon to be 10 total of them in the air trying to kill this fire. Sadly, over 600 homes have been lost so far.

Be safe all of u in SD!!! I hear the military is sending C130's too to drop fire retardant. My wife's nephew was evacuated yesterday morning at 4:30a with one of those "reverse 911" calls. I think he is at the stadium. What a mess ...

San Diego Fires: Del Mar Fairgrounds Seeks Volunteers
If you can volunteer at the shelter and/or assist in animal care, call Kina Paegert 858-792-5245
Feed store 858-509-5245 if you can provide feed and hay.

They need volunteers around the clock and will be assigning people in shifts.
Even if you do not have experience with large animals, you can be trained."

Thanks for that, LSM.

No!!! Evacuations are all the way up to San Diego State up college ave. I live just east of the 163 and this is a little close for comfort. Still far away near Spring Valley...

I just wanted to let you guys know I'm thinking of you, and everyone being affected by this situation. The sky in Hollywood is thick grey and brown today, and I'm not breathing very well. K is leaving tomorrow for a show in Oregon and I'm seriously considering bailing on my Chinese class and heading to Oregon too for awhile. This is too much smoke for my asthma, and if this fire spreads to the Hollywood Hills I'm going to be well and truly fucked.

Yekhefah
10-23-2007, 12:49 PM
I think the Malibu fire is the closest one to here, but we're between the Malibu and San Bernardino fires and the wind is spreading the smoke. I can't see the fire but my eyes are watering from smoke right now.

Samba
10-23-2007, 01:03 PM
^I'd just go, if you can. The air particulate is really high, it's definitely not good for people with asthma.

wow, so school is canceled for the rest of the week. I read earlier on a blog that they weren't expecting full containment of the Harris Fire until Nov. 4th!!!

Yekhefah
10-23-2007, 01:51 PM
Yeah, I think I'm going to go, if we can figure out how to get out of here. They've shut down the PCH and the 5 north of us, and the 15 too so we can't even detour that way. So now I'm starting to worry that we might be trapped here but I'm trying not to freak out and worsen my asthma. I think I'm just going to do some laundry and pack some stuff just in case.

LoveSexMoney

^ Wow all schools? That's crazy about the Harris Fire not being contained until Nov 4th!

it says all San Diego County public schools including schools of the Catholic Archdiocese of San Diego

up to 500,000 evacuees now too? This is so crazy...I hope it ends soon!

there's another reason that any girls in the affected area may want to seriously think about getting the f#@k out of there ...

(snip)""The transmission grid that we operate in San Diego has suffered losses and it has the opportunity to impact our ability to deliver power to the region," said Fishman. California ISO is "getting the word out that the situation is getting pretty serious and it gives us the authority to act quickly to take steps that we would need to take to keep the grid up if we lose more lines."
San Diego Gas & Electric spokesman Art Larson and California ISO's Fishman said one of the region's two main energy transmission corridors has been severed. The Southwest Power Link, a 500,000-volt line that conveys power from Arizona to San Diego, has not been in operation since Sunday due to damage caused by the Harris fire, one of the county's two major fires currently burning near Otay Mesa and Eastern Chula Vista.
Larson said SDG&E has asked for assistance for repairs and damage assessments from crews and utilities throughout the southwest region.
Monday night a fire burned around the Miguel Mountain substation, which the Southwest Power Link runs into, knocking out several of the 230,000-volt lines that run out of the station, according to California ISO's Fishman.
The other main transmission line for the San Diego region that flows from San Onofre in the north, remains functional. However, SDG&E's Larson said the power line is also being threatened from the other major fire burning in North County near Rancho Santa Fe and Poway.
Larson declined to comment on the possible affects to the San Diego-region should the northern conveyance line be cut off."(snip)

I don't even want to think about what it would be like if the last power transmission line into the SD area is taken out ... and suddenly about 100,000 'criminally inclined' residents KNOW that the power will not be coming back on right away !!!

Yekhefah

^^^ They're already looting in Malibu. The radio said today that the people working up there have noticed a few particular trucks and vans full of Latinos who don't belong with any of the rescue crews, and they seem to be looting the evacuated homes. Assholes.

Am I the only one thinking about that nuclear power station just outside of San Diego? Sure would suck for all of us if something happened to it...

Damn guys I saw a picture of one of the fires on the front page of the local Honolulu paper..
I had no idea it was THAT bad in your neck of the wood..Fires are pretty normal in CA but, usually reserved for the Summer.

My thoughts, prayers and anything else I can muster up is with you all.
Please be safe.

TigersMilk

The sky is a funny color orange. It seems finally they are getting some kind of control over the fires; we're just not out of the woods yet. About 350,000 people that were evacuated just in SD including the LA area is close to 1 million. (edit the numbers for SD are correct)

Well I don't have school for the rest of the week. Thats the only goof thing that came of this. I am so much more thankful for everything. I laid down last night and thought how wonderful it was to just sleep in my bed knowing everything in my home and everyone nearby was safe.

Thanks everyone for thinking of us.

I just saw on CNN that 513, 000 people have been evacuated and another 12, 000 in San Diego county are on stand by for evacuation.

This is so scary :( Im worried for you guys.
