The radio said today that the people working up there have noticed a few particular trucks and vans full of Latinos who don't belong with any of the rescue crews, and they seem to be looting the evacuated homes. Assholes.
Seem to be, or are?
This is not the time or venue to unleash any racial bias against Mexican immigrants, regardless of their legal status.

My kid and I are ok . My son's father is OK in his part of town. We've made sure to make evacuation plans in advance should our cell phones cut out. I don't think we will be asked to evacuate, but I am prepped nonetheless.
I heard from my beloved C today. He and his family is OK, and his homes/properties/farm are all OK too. He's very, very lucky. I think he is suffering from survivor's guilt...people all around him lost their homes, but because he prepared accordingly and did the right things, his stuff was spared. Thank God we are all OK..that is what matters most.
One good thing...some very positive stories are emerging from Qualcomm Stadium, where thousands of evacuees have taken shelter. After what happened during Katrina, people were nervous, but thousands of people have offered food, clothing, pillow, blankets, medicine, etc. to the point where they were asked to hold off until later. They have been very organized at the stadium and even had areas sectioned off for massage, yoga/meditation, children's play area, accupuncture, counseling services, etc. A woman on the news called it a blessing to be there because the displays of care and compassion have been overwhelming.

^Aww! This makes me proud to be a San Diegan. Unfortunately, I'm in an area that may be evacuated so I'm not leaving my house without my cats at any time because I might not be able to come back to get my kitties if we get evacuated. :-[
I'm still in Escondido, 70 homes have been lost here but so far we haven't been evacuated. Staying positive!

I still haven't been evacuated and I'm scheduled to work tomorrow... I'm not sure if it's worth it with the stress of leaving my home and whatever the roads would be like... anyone have any work-related info? I know most of it depends on what things look like tomorrow, but I'd like to know.

^^ I heard about this on NPR. What a stark contrast to the shelters for Hurricane Katrina, eh? Glad to hear people are being well taken care of.
I did hear from my dad finally, and they're fine - may be able to return home tomorrow, depending.

One good thing about being shut in my house is I'm catching up on school work and I discovered Fit TV. My gym's been shut and I haven't worked out, but I took did three "classes" in my living room today: yoga, belly dancing, and slow aerobics. Tomorrow I'm doing pilates and aerobics for sure!

Its up to me if I want to work today. I'm really leaning towards no.... unless something else convinces me so.
I sure did not. I bought a pumice stone instead and now I'm giving myself a pedicure.
More smoke in PB today than previously.

the 'tin foil hat' crowd would tell you that these 'mysterious' simultaneous wildfires are God's gift to subprime homeowners with unaffordable ARM's, to mortgage brokers, to homebuilders, and to real estate agents !
I was thinking this exact thing too. That is way to many simultaneous fires without lightning.
Bankruptcy avoidance by Arson.
I have sent out an email to locate a high school buddy who just moved to San Diego to be a Police Officer.

Does anyone know how long it takes the air quality to return to a normal range, after the fires are out? I'm trying to think back to the Cedar fires but I really don't remember.
One fire was caused by arson they are saying
as for air quality, dunno, but it's effecting my computing experience

anybody still in the SD area, the electricity situation is really starting to get dicey. The local power company is now running every single generator they've got (even 50 year old ones) and is importing electricity from Mexico in order to try an keep the lights on ...
you do NOT want to be stuck in SD if the last transmission line or one of the 50 year old generators goes down ... because every low life in the city will know for certain that they can get away with almost anything under cover of complete darkness @
[email protected][email protected]!
As to the arson investigation ...
has the quick news blurb.
has some VERY interesting background ... which has nothing to do with burning homes to avoid bankruptcy ...
(snip)"The FBI alerted law enforcement agencies last month that an al-Qaeda terrorist now in detention had talked of masterminding a plot to set a series of devastating forest fires around the western United States. Rose Davis, a spokeswoman for the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, told The Associated Press that officials there took note of the warning but didn't see a need to act further on it."(snip)
The asshole who started these fires better get some vigilante justice... FUCK! *anger overload*
careful now, based on the FBI advance warning you may wind up supporting Bush's war in the middle east !!!

Where is everyone evacuated to?
There are many evacuation places here.
My power goes out often, so I'm not worried.
Crime in SD ain't that bad, it's not gonna be riots and shit.
Some of us can't get out anyway, some roads are closed that head to greener pastures.

^^ Qualcomm, churches...high schools...
I made sure to keep my flashlight and walkman handy, with fresh batteries around.
Wish I could get out of SD, but I'm sick as a dog.
If the power goes out, I'm gonna throw rocks at you
TigersMilk

I should probably buy some candles and a flashlight. I have neither. Yay for gas stoves. So how bad is the power? Will it really go out soon?

I've taken off Monday-today due to feeling like ass. :fever:

Hope you feel better Sunshine! I don't think the air here is helping.
SK that would be awesome to post of how your day went.
I knew you would escalate it to boogers.
I'll just forfeit.
I hope you guys get to collect some post-trauma-i-need-strippers-money. I'm in the mood myself actually. I want to go to one of those strip clubs with a buffet so i can get some ass crumbs in my Salisbury steak.
I have a gas stove too but the gas can easily go out.
Get one of those flashlights you can charge up by shaking and then you can get a workout while you generate power.
TigersMilk
10-24-2007, 04:26 PM
Do those really work Shot? I don't want to be shaking for minutes to make it work.

Thanks, TM. I feel a little better now.
The air quality is horrible. After being holed up in my house for almost 3 days, I got a case of cabin fever and went to the drug store for some water and tylenol. I could not believe how many people were out and about in PB!! Skateboarding, shopping, walking along Garnet Ave. I'm like, WTF people??? :O
How can you breathe in this air??
Luckily it's not bad at all in my home.
That was me. I went up to the Longboard Grill to eat.
Air is fine outside to me ATM.

Work was decent last night. I haven't worked a Wednesday night in ages, but there were so few dancers that it seemed like a good night to me.
Air quality was SOO much better in Kearney than it is in Esco, so that was nice.

I'm glad you guys are OK. I have family in SD that had to evacuate. it sucks because I can't get down there to help. I checked up yesterday and they still weren't letting anybody else in. (I'm in Santa Monica).
I'm in the process of getting stuff together for the people in Malibu, (it's closer and at least I can get in there).
The air quality does so suck! The last three days, I have got all the Santa Clarita stuff and the left over bad air from Malibu:-(
PRP-It's good to hear that work was great for you. I hope that trend continues.

I live in Huntington Beach (about an1 hour away from San Diego) and there are fires all around us too(Foothill Ranch/Irvine, Malibu San Bernadino. The air quality is ok here because we are by the beach. If you go inland the quality is HORRIBLE! My car is covered in soot (so is my friends pool who lives closer to the fires). It looks like it is sprinking snow and the sun looks crazy in the smoke. Air quality won't return to normal until it rains. The rain will help clean the air...but its not looking like it is going to rain anytime soon. It's so sad... Fuck anyone who would want to start a fire like this!!!

Everybody in SoCal, go outside and look up. We've got a full moon and the smoke, fires, and general bad air have made the moon glow bright orange. It's eerily beautiful.

It was only decent, not great, tonight because I was the only girl there. If there was someone else I still would have left with something but a very sad something.
I really want normalcy to come back here. That would be great. Yes, the sun was very pretty this evening. This freaky orange glow...
Hope all of you are back home safe tonight.

Two houses right behind mine were destroyed in the fires. Then my bf's parent's told us that the neighbors told them yesterday that sheriffs came and told them to evacuate. They didn't come up our street. We were in an evacuation area and we didn't even know about it. So sad for our neighbors!
