My man is afraid of cotton balls. It's funny and sad all at the same time. I've learned not to leave them out if I was doing my nails because he'll badger me until I put them in the trash.

:D :D :D CUTE!

Me? I have an irrational fear of psycho killers. I occasionally send myself into a state of paranoia and anxiety as I start to imagine all sorts of really sick scenarios (that no normal person should be imagining anyway) happening to me and my loved ones. I then start to freak out about how vulnerable I am.

Kinda weird.

Pooka, a friend of a friend I used to know had a Mom who freaked out if someone rang the doorbell (I think knocking too). I've witnessed it first-hand. So at least you're not alone.

All my fears are cliched / standard. *shrug*

i'm terrified of hot molten metal, ironworks, steel mills, blacksmith shops. seeing the movie "rudy" horrified me to no end, i went to my room and wouldn't come out.

i also have a weird phobia of being caught underneath the hull of a ship, even though i adore sailing and boats.

I hate really really bright lights. If I am in a small room with really bright florescent lights I get all short of breath and start to panic haha! I have no clue why. I wouldn't last a minute in an interrogation room.

I don't like driving up steep bridges. I often have dreams about going up an extremely steep bridge that is really like a roller coaster and trying to get up to the top and not slide back.

I think the closest thing to a phobia I have is of vomit. I really freak out if I think someone might hurl and I have super powers to keep myself from vomiting. I haven't puked in years and I can be horribly ill and I know I'll feel better if I barf but I just can't let myself do it. If someone looks like they might be sick, I leave. I absolutely have to. I'll cry and have a near panic attack if I can't.

I've gotten better so I don't think it's that huge of a problem but I'm still pretty bad about needles. Only a couple years ago I'd cry and pass out if I had to have a shot.

Honorable mentions are talking to people on the phone, driving, and ticks.

OMG!! I don't fear them, but they are gross. My cat brought one home for a present a few weeks ago. I used a dust pan to carry it out, but it took me forever! It stained my rung>:(

Ok back on track: Elevators: I used to love them, living in a city for so long. Then I got stuck in one. Manhattan drives me crazy that way, but I deal with it.

Planes: I used to LOVE planes! I have been on every sort of aircraft there is except for an air baloon. I have even rode in a four seater Cesna above San Franciso and the cliffs of Half Moon Bay! It started on my third trip to Europe when my flight was delayed for 24 hours because there was a malfunction on the plane. It was a small airline that no longer exists. They tried to get a loner from United but it didn't work out.

The pilot flew the broken plane with two airplane mechanics on the flight!!!

And...I was seated at the very back, center>:( I could feel every bump and motion. Ane...we had weird layover in Greenland.

Now xanax and/or valium with a little wine are my friends during the flights. If I go down, I don't wanna know.

I also have anxiety about cleaning, but I do it.

Wow, old thread!

I have phobias of dark spaces, being in water, spiders, bees/flying stinging things, closets, needles, and my own blood.

My only "weird" phobia is of the taste of watermelon. I got a watermelon jolly rancher lodged in my throat when I was a little kid and I couldn't breathe, and even since then, watermelon = *fear*

I have this horrible phone phobia. It's very hard for me to talk on the phone. I can text like a mad woman but when it comes to talking to friends or strangers on the phone, I blank. Then there's that uncomfortable silence and I get anxious. I remember I had this telemarketing job selling Kirby vacuums. I'd pretend to dial a number and I'd talk to the dial tone!:-[ (There was always someone watching us) Needless to say I only lasted a week because I hadn't made one sale.

Bees

When I was a little girl I got stung while at my grandmothers house and from that day on I didn't like bees. I became afraid of them when when this boy, Albert, who I went to school with found out that I didn't like bees and chased me saying he had a bee and he was going to put it on me. I ran out into traffice and nearly got hit by a car. Ever since then, if a bee comes around me I go nuts and it's and it's hard for me because I don't like to let my son see that I'm afraid of bees so I have to force myself not to run off waving my arms around and screaming. Oh, and I can't watch anything that involves a swarm of bees. Panic attack.

I have a phobia of locusts (Cicaidas, but we call them locusts here). They get so loud in the summertime that you feel like you're completely surrounded by them. I've sprained an ankle running away from them, and now I simply WON'T be outside in a treed area during locust season.

I also have a phobia of door-knockers, but that's because nobody EVER knocks on the door unless it's bad. I've been in the middle of a bad custody battle, which means that my ex has made a number of CPS complaints, which means social workers knocking on your door unexpectedly. I'm really more afraid of social workers than door-knockers, but most unexpected door-knocking is social workers. Social workers will send me into a panic like nothing else. I can handle the visit okay, but as soon as they leave, I'm sobbing in a ball in a locked bathroom.

I forgot about the phone one, I'm awful about answering calls - its kinda nice to see this isn't as rare as it seems! I can text people all day, but if they call me I'm scared of answering it. I think its the fact that I don't know what they want and I'll have to reply right away. My friends are always hassling me for not picking up their calls, only for me to listen to their voice message and call them right back!

Flour freaks me out. I can touch the powder so long as my hands are wet. But I can't touch the bag that flour is in. You should of seen me trying to get a bag of it off the shelf and into my basket at Shop Rite. People saw.

Bridges make me freak the F out. Sometimes I cry and shake uncontrollably. I seem to particularly mind bridges over water, because the likely hood of drowning in a vehicle is high. I don't worry about drowning otherwise.
I had a friend that was terrified of rulers. He never knew why, but couldn't function around them. He brought a measuring tape to school.

Maybe his parents used to beat him with rulers?

I have a horror of things under water. I can never articulate it properly. Like, if I'm watching the History Channel and they show submarines underwater or shipwrecks or the bottoms of water vehicles in the water I have to change the channel. And it freaks me out when things go in the water, like bridge supports, docks, signs.... Pretty much anything manmade in natural bodies of water. It may be my worst fear.

I then start to freak out about how vulnerable I am.

Kinda weird.

i do that too! i don't think its a fear of psycho killers for me--more of something bad happening to people close to me

My weird phobias:
1. dead people: seriously terrified. can NOT be in a morgue. EVER. Can't even be alone in a room with a dead person. One of the reasons i cant be a doctor is the cadavers and such.

2. things i know aren't there/being alone: i'm not sure what the cause of this one is. I start thinking something unrealistic is in the room with me and i can imagine it creeping up on me and attacking me. i can't watch ANY horror movies because of this because they provoke it. Anytime anyone has ever made me watch horror movies i can't go ANYwhere alone for a good couple weeks w/out seriously freaking out sometimes leading to a full out panic attack (crying and shaking fear). My best friend has a similar problem only hers is a fear of satanic possession. i guess catholic school beat that into her head.

3. extremely loud things. (once again, mainly if i'm alone) I get this feeling like the loud noise is closing in on me. if something dangerous was behind me (look at fear #2) i won't hear it and i get that freaked out "you'd better run" feeling. I used to be TERRIFIED of the vacuum cleaner. Loud. The bf had to go buy a $500 vacuum that was quiet enough that I don't freak. <3 the dyson. Even I vacuum the house now. Blenders, sewing machines, etc. If there's people w/ me then i'm okay w/ those two but I can't make smoothies alone or sew when i'm at home alone. ='(

On that note, I miss having pets in the house. The bf works a lot and if i have animals around i don't feel as alone so i dont freak out so much.

Yay! I'm crazy!:D

I have a fear of elevators. No joke. :/

^Oh my gosh me too. Hate. I always take the stairs, and when I'm with other people I hem and haw about getting in an elevator with them. Every time I'm in one I become absolutely positive that this will be the time that I get stuck in one until I die. My major's department is in a building that is 8 stories high and it has this elevator that seriously goes at the speed of light. I got talked into getting into it once. Never never never ever again. I almost puked, not from the speed, but from fear!

My weird phobia is looking in mirrors in the dark. I will do practically anything to avoid that--shut my eyes, run past it, whatever. Too many "Bloody Mary" stories as a kid, I dunno.

Hahaha... I hate ones I can SEE out of. Enclosed ones are fine but glass ones or grill ones? CANNOT DO. I take escalators with no walls instead over 3 story drops, hahahaha. But everytime I go shopping with friends I forget and use the escalator to go to the 7th floor (where the theatre is) and my friends'll go 'wtf...use the lift!'

One time my bus got off at the wrong stop and it was underground and enclosed and it closed the stairs at 9pm and it was like 9:15 and you could only take the glass lift.

I just sat next to it and missed work while crying because I was too scared of it. I had to get the security to unlock the stairs for me. They thought I was psychotic.

I thought of another one: grates in the sidewalk. When I was about 4, I had recurring dreams of falling or climbing down into them, and I've avoided stepping on them like the plague ever since. Even the ones that I can see are only a few inches deep.

Strangely, sewer grates don't bother me at all.

I'm scared of both, but yeah, you just reminded me about how terrifying it is to not only be stuck in a moving box, but to actually SEE where this scary moving box is taking you... oh lord.

I just don't get why lifts bother me and escalators don't? I can fall off an escalator much easier... o.O;

I'm terrified of the dark, fish (yes, even goldfish), and balls. Um... like, the blow-up kind. :) That one makes sense, I think... I was playing wall-ball in elementary school once and the ball hit me in the face and knocked me out. I used to be afraid of closed-in spaces but I think I'm better with that now. (Of course, I guess I haven't exactly tested it out)

I have a manager who is completely afraid of cotton balls.
