1 stepbrother and 2 half brothers - one from mom and one from dad, all younger. I am estranged from all of them for different reasons. No one in my family makes or breaks my security clearance status.

I'm the oldest of five children. I'm 28 and I have 2 younger sisters (ages 26 and 25) and 2 younger brothers (ages 20 and 16). Big Catholic family-they didn't believe in birth control. ;D

FD, there are many books and articles about birth order and personality. I am very much a firstborn, as I take charge.

Ok, thanks. Time for research!! :D

Please pardon my self-indulgence, but it has been on my mind due to the anniversary.

Hardly self-indulgent, unlike mine. I sort of went off the deep end, but then my story is rather complicated.

I was left wondering what other siblings you had. You only spoke about the tragedies, which I'm terribly sorry about.

I never believed in the whole "half" "adopted" etc. qualifiers. My brothers and I have different biological fathers, but they aren't my "half-brothers," they are my brothers. My grandmother on my dad's side refers to them as my "half-brothers" and it really pisses me off. I also got pissed off at my bro recently for posting a picture of our cousin on MySpace with the caption, "my adopted Chinese cousin." WTF does her adoptive status have to do with anything? She is our COUSIN, plain and simple!

Sorry for the rant, but I just got into this argument again recently and it makes me so mad. I don't know why we have to add these qualifiers to lessen our relationship with family members.

Could not agree more. You look at my two brothers, and clearly, we're not sharing the same genetic material. Dad is half-white and Mom's a dark skinned white person. Two of us kids are ghostly pale with straight hair and the other looks like he's Hispanic. Like I give a rat's ass about genetics! Whatever my mother did, it's her story. Not worth pushing. They're my brothers. End of story. I don't claim my dad, biological or no. ;)

1 Sister, 11 years older

That's quite an age difference, I didn't know you had a sister.

For those of you wondering at the handle, 'Death' is way cool. He is a DJ in Key West, a good friend of mine, a guy who knows his music better than I do, and a gentleman. I am very glad he has joined us here...

A difference I can totally relate to. With the exception of my one brother, all of my other siblings and cousins are 10+ years older than I am.

That's a tall order (haha, Death is like 6'3"), but I like the idea for sure...

(Back on topic) yeah, now I wish I had another brother or sister. I selfishly miss him whenever I think of the things that we would be doing--getting together at Christmas, etc.

As far as the age difference goes, my grandfather was prodigious, so I have an uncle and an aunt that are the same age as me and one year older, and possibly more uncles and aunts we don't know about, lol.

I have a sister who's 16 years younger than me. I don't even think she sees me as a sibling. I'm just her best friends mom.

i have a brother and had a sister.
was an only child for 9 years, and when i was 9, my brother was born.
11 months later my sister came into being, and 8 years later she died.
i went back to college and never moved back into the house, and my brother was 9.
he's been an only child since.

kind of odd that from 0-9 i was an only child and from 9-18 he was/still is the only child in the house. 9 year spans. weeeeeird.

Only child here. My parents were also doing their own thing so it was pretty much me, myself, and I growing up.
