OMG. I can't believe they just did that for no reason. This country is seriously diseased.

I hope he heals quickly and that the attackers are brought to justice. Hopefully they'll go to prison for at least a few days and someone else will beat the everliving shit out of them.

Andy, is he doing any better? Did they catch the guys?

He's spent the entire weekend in excruciating pain and in bed. And no, they didn't catch them and I doubt they even tried.

What's causing his pain, specifically? And he's been checked out medically, yes? Is he on any pain-killers? Hope he starts feeling better.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband. It sickens me to hear things like this. It amazes me how people can be so cruel and it's a shame. These guys deserve a beat down, if your hubby was Bruce Lee they'd seriously re-think this beat and run game that their playing. What is wrong with some of the people in this world? It's just not fair.

Might be time to get one that does! Sorry to hear about that. Even men need to take some safety precautions, and few do. No matter how tough or big and bad you (think) you are, it only takes a car full of punks to kick your ass. Looks like they were just trying to be tough guys and not do him any serious harm, which is a good thing. Hope he’s feeling better. Stay safe.

For all the talk on this site about women's safety, the truth of the statistics are that men are burdened with assault far more than women are.

It does sound like a gang initiation or something like that. Maybe they were making one of those "kicking his ass" videos shown on the internet.

ANdygirl, I am so very sorry this happened to you *both*. I will be keeping your husband in my thoughts today, and for the week.

I would like to ask your permission to post to another board that I am a member of - we have a 'white light'/prayer thread. It can be very unspecific; I was just going to post that I have a friend in Indy who needs healing light, named Andy (figured if I aimed it at that name it would get where it is going!). Is that ok with you? NO one will have any link back here, even.

If you believe this wasn't an isolated event, a call to some of your local press outlets might spur greater interest from law enforcement in your area; papers love a good crime victim story as it moves papers.

And it wouldn't have mattered if he had a vicious dog, a gun, a knife.....anything. When you are up against 5-6 guys who are much bigger than you there is not a hell of a lot you can do to protect yourself.
.

Actually you'd be amazed what an intimidating dog can do to invoke fear in people. I had a group coming towards me(they were coming out of the woods behind my house so I'm not sure how many, but at least 3..prob more). Dont know if they were drunk or high or anything(those woods were a common teenage drinking/drugging spot)but they obviously meant harm..whether to me or robbing my home or both..who knows.

I had one VERY protective black 100 pound German Shepherd with me...off leash(since I had a large property that he never left.

He backed up against me ad pushed me physically towards the house. Then he walked towards the group VERY slowly growling and baring his teeth. He honestly looked like he would rip the throat out of anyone who came near....I'd never seen him look like that before. White teeth dripping with saliva against black fur was all you saw....like a horror movie dog.

The group backed up REAL slow until they were in the woods(with my dog advancing slowly towards them...matching them step for step)..then they took off as fast as they could.

He pranced...PRANCED back to me knowing he did good.

Anyway.....sorry for the novel...but my point is a dog doesnt have to actually be vicious(mine was a big baby any other time) but a well trained dog who is protective and intimidating looking can do more then you think.

Hope your man is doing a bit better by now....I'd be pestering the cops every damn day and organizing community watches and crap...esp since they suspect they've done it before and will then likely do it again. And abso-fucking-lutely call the media.

Stay safe.

I would be worried about certain dogs and certain people none the less, because some people are still stupid enough to attack a dog as well. It prolly doesnt happen as much tho. I am glad your dog and Andys dog were not attacked!

The only big dogs I've owned--a golden retriever and a symoyan--would have pranced up to the mob, licked hands--the hands not holding bicycle chains and tire irons--and then happily watched as they beat me to death. Then these dogs would have led the gang to the hidden house key and given a tour of the place, playfully rolling over now and again in hopes that my murders would scratch their bellies.

It's really up to my husband what he wants to do in terms of follow up on this. He's having a lot of difficulty dealing with it as is, I don't know if it would be a good idea to call the media or anything else. Plus, we wouldn't want our names mentioned.

The guys attacked him in our neighborhood, but it wasn't near our house at all. I wouldn't want anyone to know where we live or be able to recognize us or our vehicles.

Thanks for your concern. It means a lot.

Nah, people just suck everywhere. The US is not even a high crime country compared to many, it's just we are so insulated - as both individuals and as a country - we lose sight of that fact.

He's spent the entire weekend in excruciating pain and in bed.

Just due to being generally banged up or something specific like a cracked rib or what ever? That sucks. Increase pain meds and or call docs and really let them have it he's in pain and the meds he was given are not working. Some times you have to be very loud and clear about that. Had to do it several times myself for both me and others.

And no, they didn't catch them and I doubt they even tried.

Oh, they will look, but think about it, look where? Unless your hubby got a plate number or something, what can they really do? Not much, which is why the police can't protect you in most cases and will be there after the fact, to (hopefully) catch them after the crime is commited or to clean your body up and put you in a bag....remember:

"when seconds count the cops are just minutes away"

Yea it make me upset to hear of this crime. That is so horrible. It is really sad that these ass holes. Go around trying to beat ip on good people. They are cowards, I betcha if your guy was to have each guy one on one. He would have kick all thier butts.

100% correct, thus my comments about him as a man, etc. As I said, you can be big and bad and it only takes a car full of a-holes to screw up your entire day.

He has a pre-existing medical condition that was exacerbated by the attack. There's not much more that can be done about it. He will just have to rest and heal and hopefully the concussions will start feeling a little better.

Agreed, which is why they asked "Does your dog bite?" This was a concern to them. They are called cowards for a reason: they are not looking for a fight, they are looking for the easy victim, so have a dog that is clearly protective (and a breed that can actually do it vs some yappy toy dog) and or draw a gun and make it clear you are willing and able to defend yourself*, 999 out of 1000 times they will turn tail and run, as the data shows. That one in 1000 times they don't, you will be damn happy you had the dog or a defensive weapon.

* assuming you can't just run away, which is always your best option if possible.

Has he seen an actual pain specialist? There are quite a few new meds and tactics these days being used for pain, but you have to get to the right person to get it figured out.

I know you are trying to be helpful, but I'm not asking for advice about my husband's medical condition. We are intelligent enough to have consulted specialists and he is under the care of a few different doctors. This thread isn't about his illness, it's about how he got attacked.

Ow, that statement is a cruel disservice to dogs. Dogs can sense unconscious cues humans give off (like body scent changes and body language) and react accordingly. They are social animals.

My dog is a neutered male but he is still protective of his humans and home.

Back on topic, Andygirl, I'm so sorry this happened. I grew up in a high-crime area so I'm not surprised, though. You should do as CO suggested and contact the newspaper and even TV news stations.

I just saw this.

I was devastated to read this. I can't even fathom what you guys must be going through right now, especially in light of your husband's condition. He's a good, kind person and if there's anyone who didn't deserve this, it's him. The world is indeed full of sick fucks.

Let me know if you need anything at all. Good for you for flyering the neighborhood.

your husband should get a permit to carry a gun.

I have one and it makes me feel safer going into bad areas, but damn i never even thought to myself that i would need one while taking a walk in the neighboorhood.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Maybe he should carry a knife around everywhere at least. This world can be a crazy place.

I grew up with a strong male role models in my life but i was still a small girl and there was only so much martial arts i could be taught when a size difference would matter over anything else. I was brought up with guns because of that and taking target practice in the woods. When i was 18 i owned my first gun and now i can legally carry.

I know legally what i can do if it came down to it and i feel safer that way. I would never misuse in a situation that it was uncalled for but knowing it is there makes me feel safer.

Than again, if he did have a weapon it could have escalated into something far worse, so you never know. However, if he had a knife hidden well on his body he would know when to use it and when it wouldn't make a difference or it would make matters worse.

Usually just having a weapon is enough to scare a attacker off. Thus, asking if the dog bites. Next time say yes, always.

I'm sorry that happened to your hubby. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of random attacks in my life time..I keep some sort of protection on me at all times now.
It's sad that I have to always carry a gun or pepper spray just to go to the store but, I'd rather be prepared than walk around in fear.
