^I dunno, it probably would've stopped ME as a newbie! Just the pain in the ass of credit card online signups, and I'd have found another free place instead. I'd also probably think it was a troll ridden spam place, like who da F charges for a forum?

I didn't think she was drunk!

Well, read all her other posts on the board tonight, particularly the one where she talks about being plastered on Goldschlager. It has its benefits. She and FBR were having one of the most entertaining exchanges I've ever seen! But deep down, drunk, sober or anything in between, she's still pretty amazing. I've always loved her to death. :)

apologies for making a serious post in a thread that's gone silly, but am i the only one here who actually thinks making SW a paysite would be a good idea? i mean, even if it was just a once off payment of $5 before you could even read the forums or post, it'd sure stop a lot of the privacy concerns and it'd definitely nip our troll problem right in the bud.

You are not the only one, not by a long shot. The idea has always had proponents.

Look, I'd pay 30% of my net worth just to see your avatar at life-size dimensions, but not everybody has my extremely refined taste. 8)

There are several people who think the site should be a nominal pay site for the reasons you just mentioned. I've always been strongly opposed to the idea for several reasons:

1. Trolls who see a price tag are likely to think there is something worth paying for. If it's low enough, it will appear worth it to them to try it. If they don't get what they are looking for, which they won't, then we'll have belligerent trolls, not just stupid ones. Not to mention an endless accounting headache as they try to get their money back or stop payment on their cc's.

2. A $5 charge per member, given the current posting and lurking population, is not going to substantially affect operating costs. Even if you assume 500 posters and lurkers pony up, which is extremely unlikely, that's only $2,500, and that barely makes a dent in our current operating costs, to say nothing of the $20,000 additional amount (above and beyond The Subject We Dare Not Speak of covering current costs) so it's not really a revenue driver.

3. Philosophically, the site works because it attracts everybody from every level of the industry. It's even more important to be a refuge and safe haven for dancers who are having consistently crappy nights and who are dead broke or who feel dead broke, which is the same thing. Critical mass for the site is achieved by welcoming everybody who wants to join. Once you begin to toy with that, you start to affect the population and dynamic here.

4. We recently investigated on-line payment processors to handle donations, contributions and payments for the various fund-raising ideas we had, and every one of them wanted us to remove the nude and semi-nude pics from the site. To me, that was just simply absurd -- it's not SW if we pull all the pics off the site. So we've found one processor, at long last, but we have to pay a premium to work with them. It's better to pay the premium and keep the spirit and freedom of the site intact.

5. The site will operate perfectly anyway, ad infinitum, even if we don't raise any additional money, but if we want to expand it, add features, have better service for inquiries and improve visibility, we'll need to raise an additional $20,000 and there are many excellent suggestions on how we do that. I personally would (censored) to make sure we had merchandise and calendars to sell, and think of how fun it would be to have that merchandise just for ourselves, even if the fundraising potential were somewhat limited.

It will likely be a combination of many ideas that get us to where we want to be. There will be plenty of opportunity for everybody to contribute their ideas in the weeks and months ahead.

Darcy makes a good point about deterring trolls. As long as I felt confident that the site was secure enough to put my credit card details on I would be fine with it.

As for the thread that this thread refers too, the time diff in Australia always makes me miss out on these SW events.

*shrug*If Sw ever goes pay, it'll sure chase me on to better boards.
I love it here but as I've said before, I aint payin to be a member ANYWHERE.

yeah, i wasn't suggesting a monthly membership fee. i wouldn't pay that. i'm already a member of a few other sites that i pay membership for and can't afford to add another onto that list. i'm not saying it SHOULD happen, but i can certainly see the benefits of a once off $5 registration fee.

So where does that leave people who are already registered?

eh, i dunno. like i said, i'm not saying i think this must be implemented. i'm just randomly musing on the subject.

So are we gonna have a SW store? Can I sell dirty shoes and undies?

If cookies are involved you have to ask Lady Jade first. She made that quite clear in chat yesterday.

If that does happen however it would make for the...

Best. Picture. Post. Evar.

OF COURSE!

I have to admit, I'm very excited to see how these ideas eventually come into development. I've followed some of these threads as of late and sense that some feel unsure about the possibilities of change. However, I prefer to think of this as more of an update. As clarified by TOO, the site will continue ad infinitum in it's current (and immaculately resourceful) state, but I, for one, would love to have access to even more (I think that's really the key word here) features and resources. I really see nothing but gain here. Hopefully everyone here can start brainstorming. With all the intelligence within this community, I'm positive there could be some very creative ideas to contribute.

That would be great, like those benefit auctions on Ebay, but, well pervy. ;D

i'll sell used stockings and socks ! ;D

Irregardless... however the funds are raised.. we have to have a way for INTERNATIONAL (beyond USA and Canada) members to donate easily even without credit cards :)

Even tho' Visa Debit Cards are easily acquired in this country (and I don't understand why more people don't swap their keycards over to one as the only difference is that, unlike their keycard, they have VISA/credit card capabilities just using their own money which they were anyway) not everyone has one nor wants one...

Bring on the fundraiser. I wouldn't mind being able to get a banner like TOO or if I couldn't afford it.. a sticker would be awesome (i love stickers!)... or magnets (even better!).

If you wanted to make stripperweb magnets of paige's asshat that would work as you don't have to have a huge image to make the magnets ... just a thought!

You know there are a lot of guy's out there that would probably pay for access to the gallery. Is there anyway to make that part pay, but give us girls access? If we could actually get all our good pics together and put them up then it may attract guys.

I know we have the picture post, but we have lots of goofy pics there, if we saved most of the hot naked pics for gallery could it work? I'm betting lots of girls are lazy like me and have a ton of naked pics that have never made it on SW for whatever reason.

The guys who are already frequent posters and not trolls shouldn't lose their access though, imo.

Paige, do you still have the old one with the hat precariously balanced on your ass in jeans, with the Asshat! line below it? I think that would be a major contender for a T-shirt.

I think I just threw up in my throat.

A pay gallery might work but I'd be worried the trolls would then head on over to the free forums next door after fapping at the gallery. Especially if they had it in their heads they could really go and interact with the girls whose pictures they were fapping to. Also there probably would be some minor logistical problems in determining who is a real SW lady/male not troll and who isn't, for free access.

In a similar vein just charge for admission to the dick thread, there's money in gay pr0n too!

Just have Lady Jade start auctioning her cookies for site funding.

I suppose it would be a stretch to call this site educational and go for 501(c)(3) status? TOO probably already considered that since so much of his $ is on the line. Just a wild 9:30am brain hasn't really woken up thought. It could save any potential contributors some $.

Anyway even if it's just something as simple as a paypal address I think a bunch of members would contribute. But maybe I'm overly optimistic.

Yea, do like Radiohead and ask "so how much is each thread worth to you?"
