I grew up at a time when the vast majority of us would have thought JLH looks just fine. But then social trends have changed in just a very short time on a historical scale. Besides this change in what is thought of as attractive weights for women, I have seen many other changes in the fad/fashion/body industry in the areas of tattoo acceptance, beliefs about what is unattractive body hair, beliefs about what is attractive jewelry, beliefs about piercing, and other changes.
I also think one can only blaim "the man" so much. Reminds me of this Tool song, "Hooker with a Penis"

Well now I've got some Advice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that I'm the man,
And if I'm the man,
Then you're the man, and
He's the man as well so you can Point that fuckin' finger up your ass.

I think we all contribute to the shaping of society in many ways. Though each personal contribution is small, it is the net sum that matters, and I bet everyone here has adopted at least a few popular social trends of today as their own aesthetic beliefs, and maybe even believes they are not contributing to the next round of social trends that future people will blaim on "the man".
