omg sweetie! Reading your post gave me mad chills. I hate thinking about all the weirdos that are out there or guys that might try to follow me home from the club. Take care of yourself. I think I am going to invest in some of the motion detectors too.
oh my god
i just had to call the cops to my house
its 1am and there was some guy dressed in black standing outside my computer room window. my cats started growling at the window and freaking out, i just assumed there was a cat out there or something, but after like 15 minutes they were getting really really distressed so i pulled the blinds to the side and there was a guy standing there! as soon as i opened the blinds he ducked down and i was like "what the fuck are you doing out there!"
i called the cops straight away... they just left, they had a dog searching my apartment block and are gonna stay in the area for a bit.
so i'm sitting here with a giant knife, ready to fuck shit up for anyone who tries to come near my house.
gaaaah i hate fucking weirdos!
I'm glad you're OK and your guard kittys were on alert! Stay safe.

I'm very impressed by the cats' response.....That's amazing.
If you buy a gun, make sure to get proper firearm training and store them properly. Also, investigate the local laws about using force to protect your domicile and person.
The shitty part about stalkers is that "the chase" for them is most of the thrill, so take this very seriously.
oxoxoxoxo
Owning a gun is illegal in Australia. She might get away with the taser, but definitely not the gun.
I had a peeping tom when I was younger, it's scary! At least he wasn't fapping outside your window, as I suspect he might've been. o.O;

Owning a gun is illegal in Australia.;
According to the people who passed the new gun laws down there, a woman raped and strangled is morally superior to a woman with a smoking gun and a dead rapist at her feet. :-\

Yet the majority of us do all just fine with guns being illegal for "home use".
It isn't fucked. There are plenty of other things she can do. Damn, guns are NOT the answer.
He might not have been a perve at all and was thinking of breaking and entering (simple robbery). It happened to me recently (okay, I was in Melbourne so it happened to my flatmate which means it did affect me).
It was simple BnE .. they pushed in the fly screen.. saw my flatmate's wallet full of money.. took it and escaped out the front door... it was done very quickly obviously as they didn't take ANYTHING else. They saw the cash (obviously) and took it.
My flatmate was home at the time. He was upstairs (I'm in a townhouse).
(Now that window is permanently locked and same with the front door.)
I've also had a robbery happen to me when I was living at home with the folks except I was home alone at the time. It was a single level house, my bedroom at one end and me watching tv at the other. Yes, they had the balls to do it whilst I was home.
So I can empathise. I couldn't sleep on my bed as I felt they had violated my bed (as the robbers had to step on my bed to get in/out of my room near the window).
I agree with Venus. Get some alarms for the windows. He might try robbing your joint (he could've been "checking it out" to see if you had anything worth stealing).

You can protect yourself and your belongings in much more ways than a fricken gun. C'mon people, get real. It's the law here. It's not about taking away anyone's rights or making people unable to protect themselves. ::)

you know whats good about guns being illegal? it means they are harder to obtain for nutcases. which means, and stalker more then likely,wont have a gun on them. hell, my mate was home invaded by 3 people, he had a gun in his house, but it happeend so quick they killed him,literally with their bare hands. guns do NOT equal winning against evil.
omfg. Darcy, i hope you stay safe, what a scary thing to have happen. hope he wasnt some nutter who knows what you do and where you work :(

Oh for god's sake. Arguing the fact isn't going to make it any easier for Darcy to get herself a gun legally in this country - so why don't we just not make this thread into an argument about gun laws? All I was saying was guns are not legal here. That's the end of it. Darcy cannot use a gun.
Besides, Darcy can be a scary bitch. I'd be more afraid of her having a kitchen knife anyway.

That is my biggest fear. Seriously. Saturday morning coming home from work I had some guy in a truck follow me home (60 miles) turned of into town and was calling the cops and when I looked up from my phone he was standing with his hands up around his eyes looking in my drivers side window. I blew through that light and literally ran to my apartment. People are fucking weird!
You really should find a strong guy friend or maybe even a big neighbor guy for situations like those, especially if you think he was targeting you specifically!

I like you Will I really do, but for realz......a girl can't have her scary-moments-discussions in peace around here these days, bc you always gotta come in with the guns!
That's a fine enough issue and all but I think it derails from Darcy's and other ppl's threads. :(

Maybe you didn't already notice that it was pointed out that guns are ILLEGAL in Australia. She could get one, illegally, and then she'd have to deal with the repercussion of that...in jail.
Yeah, Will, really smart. ::)

And what about the woman raped, strangled and killed with the gun she bought to protect herself? Or the children who are killed because the asshole can't shoot straight?
If you want to start a gun debate, do it in Member Boards.
This thread is supposed to be for Darcy and her experience...not for you soapboxing on your ideas of what laws are good or not.

Please don't address me if you have no idea what I was talking about. I made no comments about such things, and handguns and such were only recently banned in australia, etc, and the above are the reactions by brits and ausis to having their rights taken away. I just promised I was not going to add any more to the topic, so we can drop it here. Thanx,

I don't know much about gun laws but I don't really ever remember handguns being legal in my lifetime. I know we got much tougher after port arthur, but yeah, I like being gun free. Also, if you do have a gun license and own a gun you need to keep it in a secured (to the floor or wall) lockbox unloaded and the bullets have to be in a seperate lockbox, kinda makes it a bit hard to grab in an emergency i'd think.

Good point. And that is why if you have gun you need to learn how to use it and not be afraid of it, or like you said it can be used against you.

Hope you're doing okay, Darcy. I know this has probably been covered here (I've missed a few of the posts) but if there is a way to illuminate or make sonic the area the guy was standing in--light, cans, peanuts crackling--anything that will mess up the guy's act there--that might be worth considering. Let's hope he doesn't come back and you don't need to be worried about it, but in case, maybe you could prepare a few such things--a motion light there, maybe?
I hope you're doing all right.

I have family in the Oakland Police Dept. so I grew up around guns. They've saved my life before, I know how to use them and I'm very careful. Alarms only do so much. Are the cops or some stranger going to magically appear when your alarm goes off to rescue you? Didn't think so. I did grow up in a ghetto and not some happy suburb, so that maybe why I'm so cynical. But I'm very happy to be how I am since I'm able to protect myself and have thankfully never been raped nor robed due to the fact that I'm very..... "protective" over myself. :)
BUT I'm not bashing those who just feel that firearms/weaponry are their cup of tea. It's just MY preferance and opinion.

Darcy Im so glad to hear you are ok. How scary for you. I didn't think cats would be good in that situation, great job little fur babies!!
My boyfriend saw a strange guy lurking around out the front of my house about a month ago and it is very unsettling.
When you are returning home from work at a late hour are you safe and secure to get into your apartment? Is it well lit etc. If not maybe you could get a friend from work to car pool with you or drive past and make sure you get in safely?
Also, if this guy is watching you make sure you change your routine so he can't plan anything.
Telling the neighbours is a very good idea. You could even buy a video surveilance, I dont think they are very expensive for a basic one.
I hope it was just an isolated incident and you dont have any more problems with this guy.

lol @ this thread turning into an argument
but yeah im fine. havent had any more problems, thankfully. my stupid fucking home phone company disconnected my account with no warning because they 'dont service my area anymore' so now ive had to go through a whole reconnection process with my phone & internet.
and ftr, no, i will not be getting a gun. i could get one illegally with no problems. but a) i could never use it, because i'd end up in jail, and b) i could never use it, because not only have i never shot a gun, i've never even seen one in real life, and me attempting to use a gun would only result in me shooting myself in the leg or in the face or some shit. i'm actually pretty anti-gun. killing people is not the answer. i'd rather live with being raped than live with the image of me shooting someone in the face and seeing their brains all over the wall behind them because i tried to aim for their arm and missed. neither is an ideal situation, but i think i could live with being raped better than i could live with the knowledge that i ended someones life, no matter how much that person was trying to hurt me. i think if i killed someone, i'd probaby end up killing myself.

I’m really glad you are OK and have support via people who look out for you. Your perspective on your own personal defense, ergo “i'd rather live with being raped than live with the image of me shooting someone” is incomprehensible to me and many others.
However, I respect your right to have that position. I just hope you respects the rights of others who do not share that position and feel their right to self defense trumps the rights of criminals who wish to harm them.
Stay safe.
