It may be just my suspicious nature, Alaska, but to me this guy's last letter reads like someone who has been caught at his self-absorbed game, realizes it is not getting him what he wants, and so he is backing off quickly to reestablish some ground. I think this means that he still has designs on the future with you, even though he realizes that the battle will have to be waged in a different way. He has presented himself as a meek character and his writing is anything but meek; on some level, good or bad, this guy believes in himself and, I think, in his ability to manipulate. I still don't trust the situation. I think you've handled it well, but I would be consistent now and steady and keep him at a distance and perhaps even make mention of the boyfriend you are close to, so that he gets the steady idea that a future with you is not a possibility.

So it is wise to keep up the fences, however docile the guy may seem. Take good care of yourself. I hope that, coming in and out of the club, you are always accompanied by someone--that might be a good idea, too, for a while.

Hope you've been able to take some time for a holiday break in the midst of all this.
