you pretty much hit my #1 pet-pevve with that video, ignorant people...
better take care about saying something like that because I got called a stuck up bitch recently for just saying nothing more except that I thought it was sad when people didn't know what was going on in the world. I didn't even use the "I" word either. It shocked the shit out me that's for sure!
I don't know a single person who couldn't correctly answer most of those questions. Do you?</p>Is that just a really dry joke or what? I ask because as far as people I know on a personal basis, I'd have to answer your question with a big yes. Most people I know could answer pretty much all those questions. Now ask me or my friends about how many time such and such number goes in pi and uh, well we're not going to have a clue. But those questions were pretty damn basic.
they are registered voters who will provide the swing vote in deciding the future fate of America !which is exactly why I find people who are ill informed about the world they live in scary. Lots of them vote  which in turn makes a difference in who gets power and set policies that have a direct impact on all of us
I think Will was un-American for even posting this considering the internationality of the posters
Doh!:-X
Will, I really don't think you are un-American. I'm sorry. I was kidding. You are from Boston for crying out loud. I mean, I bet you were a Minute Man complete with musket, powder, ball shot and tricorn hat back in the day.

Tara, I guess I was unclear. Maybe it was the double negative. I was trying to say that pretty much everyone I know could answer those questions and suggesting that the same is true for most folks here. So while I am sometimes " dry" I didn't intend to be in the post you quoted.

cool. I was hoping that was the case. After how the Bhutto topic went down I was starting to be a bit alarmed because I just hate that stereotype of dancers being dim witted. Glad to know my concern was pre-mature!

I’m also not convinced it’s an American thing (this bit was intended ad American bashing no doubt) but a people thing. That is, I would like to see the same questions asked on the streets of other major cities of the world and see what answers they got.
No, it is indeed a world thing.
I saw a documentary recently filmed in Berlin. A youngish woman patiently explained to the camera that the left lung was for fluids she had drunk and the right lung for solids she had eaten which were then processed through the intestines. A much older (wiser?) woman explained, with two balloons, exactly how the sun revolved around the earth.
Where Bush didn't / doesn't know where certain countries around the world are, the longest serving governnor in Germany (from Bavaria, just resigned) was convinced recently that the President of the United States went by the name Breznev - fine, he might be half right, but still ...

All your points are taken, but there is a double standard toward the US vs. other countries. You may or not be nationalistic, but we both know it would not go over well by some countries. Most Canadians seem like happy go lucky sorts, and I enjoy that when I visit.
Just a feeble attempt at evening things out. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BnYDu80WAg) :P
