Aw Mimi - I need to go check out the blog.... its been at least a year...
And I agree with those who said strippers arent necessarily performers but she did bore me. I have seen better shows by her tho... slower, more sensual - where she actually looked to be enjoying it and looked totally sexy.
I still dont like her tho - dont know why - just dont....

What gets me is I can do more than she did in that clip. I know I HAVE done more energetic shit too. Without a bored face. And she banks and treats everyone in the biz like they're shit and beneath her. Eff that. Eff that with a cactus.

No, I'm just quoting the bloodhound gang - 'a lapdance is so much better when the stripper is crying'
Umm... there's no line about crystal meth in that song, while I will admit they say, "it was even more of a turn on when I found out she was doing me to buy baby formula..."
No crystal meth, and the only wife beater reference was about a man in a fruit of a loom tank top, mmmkayyy....

It turned me on, but I also thought "I can do that." everyone looks bigger and badder in the spotlight, and so what if she's bitchy ( I honestly don't know much about her) but there's gonna be SOMEONE like that on the planet...oh well, just the way the world works.
But susan, they WOBBLE. I ain't ever seen fake titties that do that shit.
Can I just boast, I went to one of those stores where they measure you up and I am a 30E!!!! NATURAL!!!
But it's just another way of saying 32C.
Ive got fake tits. And they wobble.

Meh. I saw her show in 2000 and it was a lot slower and sexier and less bored looking. And she looked a lot better-less skinny. Maybe she's bored with her whole thing?
I'd so love to spin around in a big glass. But I'm a big goof. :)

Well, obviously my prejudices are totally revealed. So sue me and report me to the sisterhood.
Why nitpick contention when my point is skanky bitches exist in this industry, and are unfortunately seen by many as the norm? It's why Dita Von Teese is so condemnatory of strippers and why we have a bad rep. I also have a bad temper so keep coming back at me with this nitpicking bollocks and yes, I will start insulting people, but for now, I'll reign myself in to say - please. Find something more important to do than get all riled up because I've misquoted a goddamn song. I will and still use the same references after this, and if you're offended, I don't give a fuck. It makes me wonder how long you've been doing this job if you ain't heard those accusations before and if a flippant comment is enough to cause 'offence'.

I like Dita,,,, her performances are classy and beautiful...but so are alot of burlesque performances i see. I agree with scarlett...her sales/marketing skills brought her to the top in my opinion.
I agree with her opinion about strippers to a point....but she should not generalize "lazy" strippers if thats what she does. Strippers have a different job description. We have to use our energy for hours at a time talking to customers and selling our dances. We can not always be expected to be a top notch performer when selling dances is our main source of income. I love my performances and def have that creative spark and dance talent to steal the stage....but i do wait until i get a crowd that i believe will appreciate it. When i first started strippingn i would go all out every time with pole and themes blah blah. I now use burlesque to satisfy that part in me.
I have seen way more creative burlesque...i even have a few shows of my own that i feel are more creative and thought out. Did she originally come up with the martini glass idea? I cant say much because i have not seen all that she has done...but from what i have seen...it it just standard classy burlesque. That stuff is pretty simple for any stripper that has that natural talent/passion for the art of strip tease...as far as themes/ costuming and technical movement is concerned.

Wow why are you getting all bitchy over nothing.^^^
I think its because I spent the last three years telling everyone how normal strippers and stripping were, before finally saying to myself 'no actually it's not'. Our job is not normal. People who do this job are not normal, and by this I mean an insult - fucked up, coked up bitches - and a compliment - fantastic, hilarious, big hearted extroverts with bodies and personalities to die for, larger than life, too large for their clothes and a regular 9-5 job. But we also have to recognize that pretending we're all Pollyanna's ain't cutting it. We're not. To have done this job we've seen shit and I'll bet a lot of you have seen some Queens of Skank operating and some terrible things - I have. Doesn't mean I'm like that. Anyway, point is I find it really annoying when people try and pick an argument about stuff which is just, well true! As if by denying the weirdness of this job and pretending it doesn't exist, all the negative shit, and staunchly proclaiming we're all sweethearts, it'll make it true.... I got the impression after only 2 years dancing that there's so much bitchiness between the women while the men get off scot-free. It's not a very feminist industry is it, all the male managers treating us like shit and all the girls biting each other's heads off and all the fat assholes who I wouldn't let lick my shoe turning us down... yet it could be, I think. There's enough amazing women in real life and on here to make a difference, but denying things doesn't help, and getting snippy doesn't help. oh dear, rant over. Back to writing after a boring 9-5 job which makes me think I've lost any sparkle or delightful insanity I ever had....

I've seen her perform twice and honestly I've seen far better burlesque performers than her. Her costumes and props are amazing, probably some of the best in the business, but she lacks personallity. Her stage face is always that same frozen half smile, I prefer burlesque to be a bit more theatrical. Also, she does basically the same performance every time, its just the clothing that changes. I gotta say tho, I love her boobies.

Here's part of a with the AV Club. She doesn't seem to be putting down strippers here.
<cut>
AVC: Someone in Indie Sex jokes that sometimes the only difference between Hollywood and pornography is lighting and costumes. Is burlesque just stripping with better lighting and costumes?
DVT: It's something I say a lot, and it upsets a lot of burlesque performers, because a lot of them are so busy trying to explain how they aren't strippers. But I've always said it, and as much as other burlesque performers hate me for it sometimes, we're strippers. I'm not ashamed of being a stripper. Gypsy Rose Lee was called a stripper; it's not a bad word. It's where modern-day striptease started. It's the same thing, it's just a different kind of styling, and maybe there were a little more theatrics involved, a little more glamour.
It's great that we have lapdance clubs, it's great that we have pole-dancers running around in bikinis, I think it's really hot. I think it's great that there are different kinds of sex being presented out there, from pole-dancing to lap-dancing to burlesque dancing. I just think I'd be doing a real disservice to strippers everywhere if I sat there and tried to explain why I'm better or different than a stripper, because I am a stripper, I'm proud to be a stripper. I've done lap-dances, I've worked in strip clubs. I don't like to candy-coat it, and I know a lot of people do, maybe because they don't want that stigma of "stripper" attached to them, so they use "burlesque dancer." I kind of feel bad for people who feel that way, that they have to constantly validate what they do by saying they're better than someone else. A lot of people get upset with me because I'm at the forefront of this movement of burlesque, but I've been a stripper since 1990, and I don't need to prove to anybody that what I'm doing is okay. I've been through it all, I've been fired from jobs because I was a stripper, I've had my family upset with me. I'm gonna stand by what I am and what I do.
AVC: Even though you're proud of having been a stripper, most people probably wouldn't label you as one any more.
DVT: Well, some people do, and I think it's really funny when people think they're insulting me by saying "I don't understand what she does, she's nothing but a stripper," and I'm thinking, "That's totally okay for you to not understand what I do, I take it as a compliment, you're not calling me anything I haven't called myself." If you ever watch the movie Gypsy with Natalie Wood, the whole ending is her talking about how people might be making fun of her for being "nothing but a stripper," but she's the one having the laugh on everyone.

skanky bitches exist everywhere. just in case you didn't know that. and also, i know more strippers who aren't the way you're describing them to be than ones that are. the other day at graduation, i was laughing with my mom because i saw other girls there who i've danced with before. and ive met girls at various clubs only to later see them in class with me. the other night i was at a friends house from work and one of the girls was like "damn, this is the smartest group of strippers i've ever been around!" because we're all in or finished college. some are working on multiple degrees. coincidentally, we all happen to be the top girls at my club, too. so ACTUALLY, by you giving in and saying "well, youre right, some strippers are crack whores" you yourself are giving strippers a bad name. but thats like saying "well, black people are (whatever)" just because some of them are. or "muslims are all terrorists" or anything else along those lines. you're the type of person that allows prejudices and stereotypes to continue.
by the way, people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones. you've admitted that you worked here illegally. i could go ahead and go off on that one, but i think it speaks for itself.

sun child, thanks for posting that article.
I think she's fantastic. Love the stage presence, love the slightly-haughty, slightly-naughty look on her face, love her body, costumes and choreography. I'm not saying there's no one out there who's better looking/better at X dancing than her...but it's really not a competition in my mind. If one person is "good," it doesn't make everyone else "bad." So I enjoy her and try to improve my own performance.

Your rather lame comparison of 'all muslims are terrorists' doesn't really stand up by the way. My point was that all strippers are not dazzling intellectuals doing it to get a kick and do some kind of steinemesque anthropological feminist experiment, nor are they all crack whores, but to insist, as you do, most strippers are the former is kind of, well, misguided. In Manhattan they're mostly illegal for a reason. It's sometimes a shitty job, and you don't need a degree, a passport and a visa to do it. Please do throw stones at the illegal aspect. I do enjoy a good argument and I can tell there's a closet republican skeleton in that comment-closet somewhere.
People like YOU who continually insist that bad eggs don't exist in a packet are always going to be in the shit when someone else points out that they do. And I'm glad that you're at the Ivy League Stripping Manor but from my viewpoint in that titty bar, all I saw were a lot of regular girls trying to get on with their lives (students, moms, career girls, illegals, good time girls out for a laugh, what the fuck EVER), and a coupla skanks living for their next sad fix.
To be honest it's quite interesting that people want to pick fights with their own kind. I think Dita's point was that she's a stripper but she doesn't really agree with a lot of the 'stripping' going on today - if you've ever worked in Manhattan you'll know how skill-less and soulless stripping minus a pole with a crappy gown forbidden to do floor work is - it's NOT STRIPPING! It's SHIT! And the fact that the sex industry does attract people who are in the shit in life as well as those who want the extra cash doesn't do it any favours, so why get all huffy and insist everyone's doing multiple degrees? What the fuck is a multiple degree anyway and why would anyone be stupid enough to get one when the regular kind suffices for most people?
I wish there was more female solidarity, really.

BTW, am I right in thinking Teese's tits must have been super-expensive? I have never, ever seen a good pair of falsies until very recently, and never in Manhattan stripclubs. I think most girls I knew went too much too soon and ended up with these hard things sitting on their ribcage without that cute little natural droop. How do they get that? How do you make falsies wobble? now there's question for the wobbler in this forum....

Why do we hate everyone who is successful in the mainstream? Am I the only one who notices a pattern? I'll go on record and say I agree - strippers are boring in terms of stage show. I mean, not every single stripper. But there are relatively few places where you would have the opportunity on a strip club stage to do a serious and opulent stage show. Western Canada is a bit of an exception. It just starts to sound a bit silly - "I'm so much better than Dita; and I'm furious because in spite of that I don't enjoy one tenth of her success. Maybe it's because she found a market that rewards what she wants to do rather than complaining about the downturn of strip clubs.
No, I'm with you.
She's slightly above mediocre, imo. Her show is fantastic to watch, but it's all in the props and costuming. I've seen a ton of strippers with more looks, presence and talent...unfortunately not the business skills though. I think that's Dita's srength.
Great boob job though, I agree
Aha - like I said - Western Canada is a bit of an exception. When I saw part of the Miss Nude Canada I spent the whole time going "Oh MYGOD!!!" But if it stays in the stripclub... well it's going to stay in the stripclub. She took it out.

I dunno, but I've noticed that too. Like all these girls hating Diablo Cody as well, who I'm insanely jealous of. Don't be offended but even though I loved stripping I was terrified I would stay doing it forever, and not realise my ultimate dream of writing. Maybe it's a fear of mediocrity. After all, we all want the limelight, otherwise we wouldn't get onstage would we? And Dita found a niche and got out and made it big, and did it in a way we all knew how to do, prompting us all to go 'if only....' Perhaps.

I'm not entirely sure what you guys mean by wobble, but mine have always moved like natural breasts. Is that what you mean? I got my boobs done three years after having a kid and I always figured they look natural because I had a little bit of sag and enough natural boob to accomodate the implant. And I didn't go too huge, so they fit with the rest of my body.
I think when you start out flat-as-a-board the tits end up looking fake no matter how small they go. That also goes for other women with really small breasts who try to make them really big. My guess is that Dita was a C-cup and went up to a large D or so. She went for a size that is realistic for her body frame, which is why they look so natural.

I don't know how tall she is so its hard to say. My point is just that she went for a size that was realistic for her frame. I have a large D and I'm only 5'3, 125 lbs. They don't look freakishly large or anything.

i think you missed my point. i am neither of those things that you say, and i doubt that a good majority are either doing it "for kicks" or to support a drug habit. i'm not doing it for kicks. and i'm not insisting that those girls don't exist, i'm saying that you're making an unfair generalization and i don't agree with it. by saying "yep, you're right, a lot of strippers are into bad shit" you're allowing people to continue looking down on us instead of shedding some light onto the other side of things for those narrow minded people.

I agree here. I was one of those almost-flat-as-a-board people and even though I didn't go up to a disproportionately huge size, my boobs were stiff and high up on my chest for a while, and it took longer than average for them to drop into place. They've dropped considerably, but they'll probably never drop as much as other girls' implants might. But despite that, my boobs still look 100000X better than my flat, disproportionate, nipple-less(yes that's right, nipple-less) boobs did pre-opt.
And as for Mimi NY -- I agree with most of what she is saying too. Perhaps she should frame her words with a little more sensitivity to avoid having the dancers with kids get the wrong idea, but beyond that, I see the point she is trying to make and I also agree that it is good for her to stand up for herself. I had to stand up for myself to some people recently, too...and I'm really glad I did!

Mine are fake and they wobble. They have the slope..and most dont know they are fake. You do it by researching your DR VERY carefully and doing everything you are supposed to...I wasnt allowed to raise my arms over my head for a month..and I didnt.
THe problems with bad fakes are:1)girls go for price instead of researching the Dr to make sure they are good and do what THEY want..my friend loved her dr..but when I met with him I didnt like him. HE was sure all girls wanted the big fake looking Pam Anderson booobs(which is what my friend has and wanted). So what was perfect for Her would have been a nightmare for me
2)girls dont follow Drs orders
3) Girls go far too big for their frame
4)Girls want to go back to normal too fast..I've seen girls dancing again, out partying..2-3 weeks after getting their boobs done. Then wonder why tehy have stretch marks, pulls and capsular problems.
And on topic...I think Dita is pretty and an ok stripper..but highly overrated.

I loved this bit especially, having worked in a veritable Circus of Skank. But even there you'd run into intelligence, beauty, and irrepressible spirit combined in remarkable ways.
But getting back to Dita, I'm inclined to say to each their own. I have seen many a performance that was infinitely more enchanting than anything I have seen yet from Dita, but if she has her fans, who am I to say they are wrong?

Her boobs do look great. I assume she wasn't completely flat and had a decent amount of breast tissue before she got the falsies? I love her though, I've always loved 40s movies, fashion, hair, makeup.... I love her style.
I completely agree.
