I'm beginning to get slightly addicted to these meal threads. Or maybe I just have too much time on my hands while uni's off.

Anyway, tonight it was a vegie burger, mixed grain rolls, lettuce and a few chewy eclair lollies. Well earned- I got absolutely pounded by my gym instructor beforehand, plus I'd already done a little jogging earlier in the day. The hammering wound up feeling incredible though- pushing beyond physical limits can be hugely exhilarating (not to mention appetite-building!).

Heh, me too. I used to be a online food diary junkie. With my Blackberry, I always have time to be online no matter where I'm at. LoL.
Tonight it's a stuffed eggplant w/some leftover salmon linguini on the side.

Bwahahaha! Everyone will succumb to the pizza thread!

Last night I was sick and craving soup, so I made some with fresh cabbage, a carrot, a purple potato, some onion and garlic cooked in olive oil, and a ton of lentils. The broth was water, some TJ's veg broth, a generous splash of cabernet and another of balsamic vinegar, a little soy sauce and sriracha, and some random spices. Once that was simmering I felt a little better, so I whipped up some cornbread to go with it. It was a pretty good dinner if I may say so myself.

Wow, that sounds really good! I'm gonna have to try this. I :heartbeat Sriracha.

Sriracha is amazing! I had originally used a little Louisiana Hot Sauce in it, but I added too much balsamic vinegar and I needed to cut it down. So I threw in some soy sauce and sriracha and it worked. No idea why, but I'm glad it did!

Lamb has its own flavor that's difficult to describe, a very strong kind of musky flavor. Mutton (grownup sheep) is so musky it's gross, but lamb is okay once in awhile. I liked it until I was in Australia and had to eat way too much of it; Australians gobble it up like bread.

I didn't know that people didn't tend to eat lamb in the US. It's very common in Greek food and obviously popular here (plus you do hear about American kids sitting down to lamb chops now and then), so I'd thought of it as kind of a universal meat. To find out that it's not spins me out a bit. You learn something new every day!

I don't really know anyone who gobbles it up like bread, though it's not an unusual meat to find on restaurant menus. I remember being served lamb chops a lot as a child and eating it in Greek dishes til I went off red meat entirely, but the meat-eaters I know tend to eat beef more commonly than anything else, and beef certainly takes up the bulk of the supermarket meat section. Perhaps it's bigger in the outback than in cities? Or in some states more than others?

Maybe. I lived on the Gold Coast for two years and it was the most commonly-consumed meat, until there was a drought and they had to cull some cattle so beef got a bit cheaper. I liked it at first but after two years of that strong flavor I just couldn't take anymore.

You do see lamb chops on occasion in the USA but (at least where I come from), it's only really served at Easter. Maybe it's just Southerners who don't eat it, I dunno. We tend to eat more pork and chicken and less red meat.

I didn't realise either that lamb wasn't big overseas.

Lamb is good, different to beef though, but it's also often minced over here and used for sheppard's pie. I don't find it strong at all but that's probably because when I was growing up, I was brought up on veggies and lamb, pork or beef every night.

Lamb is okay... a little gamey but it's good for something different. If you like lamb, you'd like duck. I made and apricot glaze for some duck breasts once. Good stuff, but duck isn't cheap!

I've been making a lot of chicken lately since it's cheap and pretty low-fat. Tonight is chicken breast with goat cheese sauce (it's actually healthy. It only takes 2oz of the cheese total but has white wine and thyme.)

Buffalo-meat stew. Meh, it's okay. I should've added more spices (and not low-sodium broth). It's redeming quality is how healthy it is... low-cal and low-carb.

Steak. I've been all nice and vegetarian but we went to Acropolis for a steak dinner after work tonight. The steak was mediocre and I let K finish it; I'm disappointed because that was supposed to be an incredible steak but it was just passable. However, it was all worth it when the naked stripper on stage started doing the Thriller dance (to the actual song, for her set) and I remembered just how much I love Portland.

The boy made me the BEST at home chicken I've ever had. Its just lemon garlic chicken but its all in the method he cooks it. He lets grape seed oil, a few pieces of garlic, and two table spoons of chili paste simmer for a minute in a frying pan. Then he adds chicken breasts coated in salt/pepper and cut into smaller strips (seems they cook more evenly) and sears them. He turns the heat down and just lets them finish cooking.

Usually I make it with a baby herb salad with lots of spinach, Gorgonzola, walnuts, and raspberry vinaigrette.

I don't know why I can't cook chicken like he can. I'm a pro when it comes to seafood but I always overdo the chicken.

Cajun chicken, cheese and salad wrap from Boost.

Also pita chips and tzatziki. And some lollies.

No surprises as to why my measurements goals remain annoyingly elusive thus far.
