MorningStar Farms Buffolo Wings are the single greatest meatless meat alternative I've tried yet.
Seriously, I really doubt most people would notice that these aren't chicken. Usually meatless products leave some funky after taste or still taste a little off...but damn.
Only 200 calories in 5 of them. I ate 6 for dinner and since they are spicy I had like 3 glasses of water with them and was actually full. I love eating and usually 240 calories is not going to fill me up....but damn.
I suppose "but...damn" should be my catch phrase for these.
So many people have raved about these..I really need to try them. I love Mporningstasr farms stuff!

^^^ They're good, but not as good as the little veggie sausage patties. I effing LOVE those. My grandmother (who is most definitely not a vegetarian) eats them every morning for breakfast and always has several boxes in the freezer, LOL! They're really good!
For a really tacky treat, I like to bake those buttermilk biscuits that come in the pop-can and make little sandwiches out of those biscuits and the veggie sausage patties. Best white-trash breakfast EVER.

Lola rose, will you post a very simple yummy crockpot recipe for london broil? Pretty please :)
id say more on the easy simple side please :)
thanks
You are the best
ok ladies, it doesn't get more simple then this:
(the amounts depend on the size of your crock, and amount of servings. This will feed 4, and probably have leftovers)
1 sweet yellow onion, chopped into 8 wedges, and seperated
3 carrots, peeled or scrubbed, chopped into 1'' long pieces
3 large potatoes, peeled or scrubbed, cut into same sized chunks as carrots.
3 cloves of minced garlic
2.5-3 lb LB
onion soup mix
water
assorted spices.
layer the veggies in the crock pot in one layer
put the meat over veggies, and add the extra veggies around the meat (along the sides of the crock) sprinkle on the onion soup packet, and add any spices you like. (I use about a 1/2 tbsp of: cumin, garlic powder (or fresh)and a tsp each of cracked peppers and coriander. a dash of- allspice, paprica and soy sauce) you can change this up as much as you want, maybe add hot sauce and red pepper flakes for some spice....
cover with water, and cook on low 8-9 hours, or 5-6 on high.
you can eat it as is, or you can make a reduction sauce with 1 c of the stock. I like to save the rest of the stock for making french onion soup or sauces. You can even freeze it to use for the next roast. I like to serve it with steamed brocolli and maybe some asparagus if it looks good in the store.

I haven't tried those ones yet but I'll pick them up tomorrow at Trader Joes. I'm slowly inching my way back into being vegetarian. I used to eat their corn dogs every day but I started to notice the after taste more and more.
I feel so much better without eating meat. I'm only doing it for health reasons this time.

Same here. I was all animal rights in my teens and early twenties, but this time it's just because I feel healthier and happier and I don't trust the meat supply anymore. It's not that I don't care about animals, I do, but that's a side benefit to my own health.

Exactly what I did. I was vegetarian since 6th grade until a few years ago. Back then I very much into animal rights. I still am but the deciding factor this time was more that I'm concerned about hormones and antibiotics in my meat now that I've become more educated on their potential harm. I've also heard that cutting meat out can help with a health problem I'm currently having. I'd much rather cut out meat than be on medication forever.
Btw, would you know what section of the grocery store the nutritional yeast is in? I keep seeing recipes that call for it and I don't think I've ever seen it in stores before.

^^^ OMG, I went vegetarian in sixth grade too! Age 11 through 22 or 23, can't remember exactly when I quit. But it's definitely time to quit, for the very reasons you cited.
You'll find nutritional yeast at hippie-veg stores like Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Squash Blossom, maybe Trader Joe's. I never used it until I found it at a little local shop in Southeast Portland last month. I don't think Safeway would have it, but it couldn't hurt to look in the organic hippie section.

Steamed veggies for me tonight. I've got to stop being so lazy in food preparation and add some protein.

Tonight: Cheese and salad roll, water crackers, berry yogurt lollipop. Delicious!
Last night: Two hot chocolates and two slices of multigrain bread (all consumed after midnight!). Simple, enjoyable (to me) but rather embarrassing from a nutritional perspective (though from a strictly calcium-oriented perspective, not too terrible).

Tonight I'm going to be making dinner for Valentine's day for my boyfriend and I, so things aren't going to be QUITE my usual steamed veggies and chicken mantra (I swear I'm not bored, I'm just addicted to broccoli and chicken!)
So, ahem. Um, the plan for tonight is for me to be making;
Some balsamic roasted zucchini and summer squash and string beans.
Salmon with crab stuffing that I'll pan sear and then just probably bake the rest of the way.
Vodka cream pasta (argh, so good and haven't made it in years).
And for desert, he loves this sugar free cheesecake pudding, so I'll be making cheesecake and chocolate pudding cups with some strawberries on top!
Fuck, now I'm hungry and I still have to go shopping. >/

I had almond milk, hummus/pita. and a raspberry/walnut/spinach salad for dinner tonight. This is the best I've eaten in a few months. I think my binge eating might be lightening up.
I think almond milk changed my life. I've been wanting to go completely vegan for a while but didn't think I could give up milk. I figured since I bought organic milk from a local farm it probably wasn't thaaat bad for me. I was getting quite a bit of my protein from non-fat milk as well and I craved the taste. The only milk alternative I'd tried was soy milk, which tastes like water and powdered milk to me. Blech!. Anyways, I think I can do this now. Gooo almond milk!

That sounds delicious!
This evening I've had a wholemeal roll, a little salad, falafel and a tiny bit of Greek yogurt, with buttermilk and drinking yogurt to drink. No-one can say I don't get my calcium!
I used to be vegan but had to give it up when I became very ill and B12 deficient. I've seen a lot of people thrive on it, though. I think it's at least partly a blood type thing. However, my own problem with binge-eating died in the arse when I went vegan in 2006 and hasn't come back in any major way since, save the very occasional blow-out. Veganism is often a great idea if you have food issues, since most binge-y food isn't vegan.

Hmm..hubby went to Sweet Tomatoes without me for lunch. Bastard. After I lovingly kept him from getting Taco Bell at midnight last night and being sick all night too.
So dinner tonight is my choice...Sweet Tomatoes(he can go again...you can never get too much salad ...and I'm in heaven with their homemade mac and cheese....drool)
OR we do Mexican night...tacos(chicken for him, bean for me), Spanish rice, Mexicorn..
I think I want salad...yeah...salad....

i love QDOBA!
I used to eat there at least once a week when i lived in the city!
I hope they build one out here in the sticks!
Last night i had the most horrible sushi, i ate 2 pieces and let them take away the rest. 100 freaken dollars down the drain between hubby and i and we both hated it!
We are sushi spoiled though, morimoto tomorrow to satiate the craving!

i actually meant Thursday for morimoto oops
LJ you can come to the omakasa tasting menu with us if you want :)
Hubbys treat!
I actually suggested to my dear husband that when we go we just order off the menu since its so damn expensive to do the tasting and he like got personally offended. Why would we go to morimoto and not eat the chefs tasting he wanted to know?? I was surprised at his reaction lol. My man is PASSIONATE about good food!

^^^ I'm going to Lady Jade's house for dinner tonight.
I made my usual don't-feel-like-cooking-fancy-but-want-to-eat dinner. Tofu-veg stir fry with whole wheat pasta and spicy teriyaki lime sauce. I don't know why I eat this all the damn time because the fiber overload really puffs me up with bloat. But it's yummy! On this particular occasion the veggies were carrot, celery, green onion, and savoy cabbage. Delish.

I love how you make several dishes! That's my favorite, getting to have so many flavors in one meal.
However I played it simple tonight. Broiled tilapia with baby carrots and celery and strawberry/apple smoothies. Wasn't the best but it was healthy and filling so I feel somewhat good about it.
