I dropped one of my classes since its un-needed for nursing. So now Im only taking three classes and am considered part time (10 units). Which is fine by me. Id rather get As in 3 classes than Bs in 4.

I am not in school (yet) but am proud to say I took the 1st step in starting and scheduled an appt. with an academic advisor. I have been putting it off forever and I need a real career before I turn 30 in 3 years.

Im taking:
Cultural Anthro (3)
Psych 1 (3)
Math A (4)

Are you taking science classes? They tend to be more units.

Next semester
Chem A
Eng 1A
Hum Dev
Nutrition 10

Then I'll have all the classes done so I can apply for the Nursing program in Fall 2009. But I'll still have Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology left to take with nursing classes assuming I get in.

If I dont get in I'll take those classes in the following Fall and Spring and apply again in Fall 2010.

AudreyLeigh

I'll be taking 14 units in the Spring. I MIGHT take 3 classes and take Hum Dev in the summer 7 week course so it wont be such a full load - esp with the Lab class (Chem) I loved the summer classes - so laid back and small and EASY.

Thanks for all the good wishes! Today was my first day on campus. It was great. I had Bio lab and lecture, my professor is awesome, and I actually kind of learned something today (though I think I already knew it). It just feels nice that the wheels are turning again. I had exercise and conditioning... gym class for grown ups lol

I'm totally lost with these online courses. I'm way behind because I need to get the books and I already have assignments due. Lickily, my mom is willing to lend me the money for me to get the books tomorrow, so I guess I'll sit in the library and catch up on the computers there. This is GREAT! I'm broke, but it's still great!

Sex Kitten- How'd the audition go?

AudreyLeigh

I cannot take online courses. I dont have the determination to set a schedule, sit down and learn the stuff. Im a procrastinator and NEED the lecture from the professor. But thats just me. Some people do great with online courses.

Yikes! Have you zeroed in on anything yet? I wish I could help! :-\

In other news, I've got so much reading to do I don't have time for anything else in life.

Yep. I'm writing it on the interconnectivity of the Bronze Age Aegean and Near East as expressed in costume and personal items. I've been doing a lot of reading on the way that Greece was studied and regarded by Westerners as seperate from the Semetic/Near Eastern and Egyptian areas of the world. And how it's crap. There was a whole lot of 'Orientalizing' before the Orientalizing period. I think it might be the sort of thing I want to study for my Masters and stuff. Connections shown through material culture. Maybe.

Yeah! I'm glad you were able to decide on something that you're interested in. This should be a major help for grad school. It's wonderful that you're focusing on dress and costuming - there's a big gap in those studies for much of the ancient world (in fact I don't think it was ever mentioned until my Roman studies). This is so exciting!
Congrats!

I was chatting with my girlfriend who did the RN program through my school. I mentioned going for my BSN after I get my RN and she was all for it and said shes seriously thinking about doing the same thing. So I said - why stop there? Why not get my masters and become a nurse practicioner? lol...

One step at a time... School is so exciting. So many possibilities. I feel like Im actually doing something with my life.

I think Ill just become a professional student - that way i never have to pay back loans. Work but always be taking 2 online classes. lol.... until i DIE.

So, Ive been good today. Got up at 730 and did my Anthro reading and note taking. All I have left for today is to answer some questions about the Amish and a Psych project (which will take 20 minuts). So proud of myself.

Whoa. I just got a letter saying they are mailing out checks for $4,600.

Four pages? You can do it! I had to write a 8 page essay on some horrible crappy book about pirates. I just used a lot of block quotes. lol

I have a bunch to do today. 2 sections of math. A psych project, read ch 1 in psych and answer some questions for Anthro. Im kinda doing the math now. I know I can knock out the anthro thing so I should do it but i keep putting it off... the psych thing - im so sick of reading. I may do the project today and read tomorrow...

Screw that. Im all confused and Im in Math A. lol. 10x+4x=? ok, I know that one but this stuff is made to confuse you. When will I ever need this in my life? Ive done find till now with basic math skills. Thank God I dont need any classes more advanced than this!

Grr. One of my books didn't come in time so I have to read it on google.books. I hate reading books on the internet!

Then again, I am grateful and giddy that I now know books are available on the internet.

My math class is insanely easy.

Am I the only one who likes math? I miss it. :( I finished my math requirements early on and want more. I like the structure and logic to it all. No wishy-washiness. You either have it right or wrong. No grey areas.

I'm falling apart on this semester already. I wish I had taken off to work instead. I need to rewrite my thesis summary and I am not feeling the topic at all. I really want to drop the thesis and just take classes and get the hell out of there.

Gah. I can't find my original one page thesis summary! I have to write a new one. What is it about again? *scoops up brain from the floor* Oy. Oh no-I have to discuss it with the other thesis writers, too! This is why I scheduled therapy before the meeting. *dies*

At least I did a LOT of my readings today. Most of September's assigned pages. Woo.

ETA: I did it! I hope it was okay.

Okay, thesis is a no. The seminar's being run by two bitchy grad students who have piled us up with busy work in addition to the thesis (like an annotated bibliography due before the paper and multiple outlines). It's twice as long as we were told (60 instead of 30 pages) and we have to turn it in a month early so we can do 4 weeks of 'peer review'. When I could be writing this monstrosity, instead I'll be reading 10 other 60 page papers. They want us to understand how hard it is to write a thesis. Uh, fuck that.

Thanks Rose. :) The good thing is there are 4 exams. Then there is an optional cumulative final that you can take to replace the grade on any bombed exams (like mine). So, I just have to study.

Note to everyone - Psych1 is not a "common sense" class. lol... my teachers test was sooo wordy and confusing. Some of the questions were a damn paragraph long it was a multiple choice test! Ugh.

AudreyLeigh
09-12-2008, 07:15 PM
Oh and to add. Those grad students need to be beat with sticks. That sucks that theyre such asses. :(

Yay for extra exams! I hate when you only have one or two chances to make your grade. Psych can be hard! I did okay in it, but there was no multiple choice. I can't work those kinds of tests!

Yeah, the grad students do suck. I'm going to drop the thesis and try to pick up some other class. Plenty of time for writing in grad school. I just don't have time to knock myself out to do all the other work in addition to the thesis, and then basically do the grading for the grad students, too (since we'll be 'peer reviewing' everything).

I think that's a good idea Rose. Well, Im a dumb ass. Had I read the SUMMARY at the end of the chapter and just studied THAT (2 pages) Id have done MUCH better. I mean I probably could have ONLY read that and done better. Oh well, live and learn. I have it typed up now and can study it for the final.

Thankfully, i have not had any chapter tests in any of my 4 classes yet. ( psych, american presidency, med. terminology, us history) but i do have to give oral reports in EVERY class at the end of the term...BLEH. I have this HUGE 4 hour break between my last two classes, so i just go hide out in the library, texting friends and being Soooo damn bored. Ooops, i mean..studying.

Dropped the thesis, added Intro to Human Evolution. Slightly heavy course load now, but woooooo Skellingtons!

I hope so. I have 2 weeks of it to make up, but I really like learning that stuff. I spent the first 10-15 years of my life learning that some guy in the sky made it all in 7 days* and dinosaurs were works of satan, sooo I probably have a lot to learn still.

*I'm okay with guys (& girls) being in the sky, but damn, no dinos? 7 days? That's just crazy!

this has been my hardest semester yet. I've spent the past 3 weekends at home... doing hw until 3 am! so sad.
I got a B on the paper I was struggling with last week. I guess thats ok. uggghhh I'm starting to hate school.

AudreyLeigh
09-16-2008, 04:17 PM
B is better than a D. Im pretty stressed out too. I started with summer classes and figured the fall would be easier (more time to learn right?) wrong! Its way harder!
