B is better than a D. Im pretty stressed out too. I started with summer classes and figured the fall would be easier (more time to learn right?) wrong! Its way harder!

yeaaa. I'd think the summer semester would be harder since it's so fast paced. good luck tho. you can do it!
I'm struggling in my math soooo bad. I got an A on the hw... but a C on the quiz and an D on the test. I suck.

I really like my myth/ritualism class tho. the teacher is kooky and the subject is interesting. not to mention that I had a test today that I totally aced... thank god for teachers who still believe in open-book tests.

I love my Cultural Anthro class. Its my favorite... sooo interesting and the teacher tells so many stories - shes a bit odd but fun.

Ladies do you have any study tips? Idea's on how to get A's and B's...I'm really trying to raise my GPA (i'm on academic probation) and need to raise the grades to keep the finacial aide from stoping. Plus, i wanna prove to my family that i am not a fuckup!

It's not much, but review/re-read your notes nightly. Do your homework in advance. Read ahead in your textbook, even if it's by a few pages so that in class, it'll be discussing something you already know. And whatever you do, do NOT fall behind. it's very difficult to catch up.

At least read the summary at the end of the chapter BEFORE the teacher does a lecture for that class. Take good notes. While reading the book type up notes rather than waiting until youve finished to remember it.

I was behind in Psych because the book is soooo boring. Last night I went online and downloaded her powerpoint presentation and re-typed it up into Notes. Im currently going through the book adding to her notes anything i think is relevant.

Oh, Im pretty sure I got 100% on my algebra exam!

Im not sure if your school offers it but I cant see why not. In the library they hold weekly 2 hour presentations. They differ by week but one week will be study tips, another note taking, another would be test taking, etc. They teach you tips on how to be efficient. Theyre not a class/credit - just something you can go to. When they have another study tips one Im signing up.

Read in advance what the plan for class is that day, go on prepared. After class, review what you learned, go over your notes. Dont cram atthe last minute before a test. If you just spend a half hour each night going over everything, you will know the material. That also helps with test anxiety to know you are prepared.

learn the best way for you to study and learn. For me, it's re writing my notes each night and tutoring people. When I take my test, i visualize my notes and sort of read through them in my head until i find the answer for the question.

LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!

Guk. 5 classes and 2 heavy-duty extracurriculars, plus dancing. Something's gotta go!

Classes:
International Cooperation and International Institutions
Research Methods Seminar
Environmental Ethics
U.S./Mexico Relations
Intermediate French

At least the research seminar is only 2 units, but still.

Starts Thursday. Blegh.

Two of my professors want us to buy expensive books that they themselves wrote. $60 for one and $100 for the other and it's impossible to find them anywhere online, so I'll have to buy them at the student store. Ugh, I have a prejudice against professors who think that nobody can sum up the subject quite as well as themselves.

Especially when they DON'T know what the hell they're talking about!

I've got:

English Composition I (Freshman Comp I)
U.S. History to 1877
Intro to Macroeconomics
Principles of Accounting I

Accounting isn't really HARD, but it's VERY time-consuming. Economics is my only off-line class, but the prof's really good. My US History teacher is an idiot: We've already gone rounds because I challenged the textbook he wrote about the religious status of the Mayflower pilgrims. Then there's English Comp... I've always done VERY well in English, so I start doing my first essay and decide it's too boring and elementary so I decide to show off a little bit. Then my prof FAILS me on my first essay because she can't find the damn thesis sentence (which WAS there, mind you, as plain as day, but she just couldn't find it) and because she "got lost" (funny that nobody else who proofread my paper had that problem). So I submitted my really crappy five-paragraph standardized testing bullshit essay and aced it. I hate my English comp professor. I e-mail her with a question (on-line class) and it takes her 7-9 days to answer it. Meanwhile, we have assignments due every 2-3 days!

So that's my semester schedule.

What does his book say about the pimgrims? Curious...

He says that the "Pilgrims" were the exact same as the Puritans. They weren't. The truth is here:

http://www.pilgrimhall.org/PSNoteNewPilgrimPuritan.htm

<snip>The Pilgrims at Plymouth were Separatists; the Puritans at Massachusetts Bay were not.<snip>

I know it seems like a small distinction, but I've spent years studying the history and theology of various Christian denominations, so it's a VERY big difference to me. I also feel it's a critical difference because the Pilgrims and the Puritans both established their colonies on the basis of their religious beliefs. The differences in early colonial government are the result of the differences in their theology, so an error like this is, IMHO, completely unacceptable at the college level. For a college history professor to give this kind of wrong information is just unacceptable.

Oh, then there was also the "error" I found regarding the number of pre-European Americans. Specifically, the numbers he provided and the data on that has largely been de-bunked in the past 10 years.

If I take a winter break class and then 16 credits in the spring semester I can graduate in May. At worst,if I can't schedule it right, I'll have to take a summer class and be out by July 4th! Escape from NJ! YES!

Warning: this is kind of a ramble!

I'm thinking about doing a national exchange program with my school. It's set up so I pay in-state tuition at any school on their list of participating schools. Basically there's a school in/around just about any major city I'd want to live in.

All that said, it's got me looking at other schools and I ran across the Portland Uni site and they have an online Criminal Justice program for cheaper than my instate tuition. I could live anywhere and do that. I'd need to be able to transfer those credits over to my school (I can't bare thinking that I'd just scrap all the classes I've taken so far).

Anyways, I now have too many options!!! I want to dance in denver (the closest school in the transfer program is Uni of CO in CO springs). I also might have the opportunity to live in San Diego for a little while and would like to pursue my degree. I could take correspondence classes and CLEP for like 15 hours through my school now while in san diego...bleh!!!! So many options.

I really just want to get out of college so I can go do this stuff and not worry about classes but I still have a couple years. ARGH!!!!!

Also even if I somehow bust my ass and get out of here, my bf works full time and still has at LEAST 2 years to go. I want some free time to myself but I don't want to throw away a good thing. It's all way more complicated than it should be at my age!!!

^^i suggest taking the opportunity to travel through your school. I am currently studying abroad and absolutly love it! I did however leave behind my boyfriend of almost 3 years, but we talk online and through Skype. It has really been good for our relationship too, because we are able to focus on ourselves more. I also pay my home schools tuition fees, but I have got to warn you that it was ALOT of paperwork and ALOT of running around trying to get everything ready, not to mention all of those of little extra "fees" that you have to pay. Def worth all the hassle though.
