TigersMilk: I had to drop a humanities class I had as well a few semesters ago, it was fucking lame. Sooo much homework. I ended up taking an intro to Philosophy class to fulfill the requirement instead, and it was WAY more interesting. Just something to think about :)

Damnit I keep having to take my philosophy exams early, which sucks because it's an intensive class already. Grrr

Yes, it is. Its boring as hell. Want to cut my eyes out with a rusty spork. This might sound bad but I don't really care about art/sculptures and mythical stories from the past. I like things that were based on real people doing real things like plain old regular history. Learning about some crusty old sculpture or cave drawings just isn't interesting to me.

LOL!

That's me right there. Art history major with an emphasis in classical studies. :D

Um, hello? Don't you see me waving back when you look in the mirror?!

:D
Art history is fun!

I've got a midterm Tuesday though. :/ The essay is on comparisons of Neolithic and Cycladic figurines. I think that's just about as boring as art history gets. "We're not sure of the nature of the fragmented figurine, although the presence at the top of the hill indicates possible cult status.... Now known as the Tubby Fertility Goddess.... blah blah blah...."

Hah! I want those boobies staring back at me!

I'm not thrilled on Neolithic Greek/Cycladic either. *snore* But oooooh, the Minoans. And the Corinthian style! Ohhh and Geometric! *nerds out* Did you ever put your books up on Amazon? I want to browse your shelves...

Bah, haven't put up any books yet. I'm a lazy student. Plus you don't want the stuff I'm willing to get rid of! I'm keeping all the good stuff. :D

Daedalic is where it's at. I wonder if I'd get extra credit if I wore my hair like that for the exam.... :judge: (Ha! That's the closest smiley we've got to daedalic hair.)

It really is a GREAT style. I'm in later Greek so it's awesome, but somehow...not as cool. :) Except the architecture.

Registered for 3 classes for the summer. I wish they'd have offered these classes during the normal school year! If I make it through these (4 days a week for half the summer, 2 days for the other half) I'll be on track to graduate next May! I miiiggght have to sacrifice one in the name of work though. :(

Now to come up with $2600!

This semester:

Mental Disorder And The Law
Equity and Trusts
Corporations Law

Over summer I did an elective called Law and Medicine, which covered things like medical negligence, confidentiality, legalities relating to transplantation and abortion law. The assessment for that's due March 11. Winter I'll be doing another holiday intensive elective, I think I'll choose American Law for that. Absolutely irrelevant for practice (completely different constitutional foundation you guys have, for a start), but I'm fascinated by other jurisdictions, and it's an elective out the road. Next semester is my last, I'll be doing Legal Practice and Conduct, Admin Law and Civil Procedure. I begin my articles year (which is like an apprenticeship I need to complete before I can be admitted to legal practice) straight after that, yay!!

I can not wait to start making actual money 'n' stuff. I'll be on minimum wage as an articled clerk, which is still a lot more than my broke arse lives on right now, so I'm happy. And, well, hopefully my financial future holds much more than minimum wage.

You can doooo it! My school tends to have 3-4 exams in humanities class, not 2, so I have them all spread out. Thankfully. Still makes for a few days with 2 or 3 exams going on. Argh. Two were art history, so we'll see how I do there. He's a hard grader.

82 on the math exam. Boo but yay! It's still a B, and I knew at least one prob made me go :O.

And he gave us a copy of the excel sheet he uses to determine our final grades, so not I can do the weighting myself. I think.

Okay, HK (and other art history peoples) Hot or not?

Mausolos (he of the Mausoleum)? (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1b/Hekatomid.jpg)
Artemesian Posiedon? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poseidon_of_Cape_Artemision)
Albrecht Dürer in that self portrait (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Durer_self_portarit_28.jpg)?

My friend and I got into this discussion after class this morning. Thought I'd pass it on. ;D

hardkandee

Mausolos (he of the Mausoleum)? I'll go with no. I prefer a more defined jaw line and I tend to like a man with limbs. I do have to give him credit for the nice pouty lower lip though.
Artemesian Posiedon? Overall, good body, nice butt and abs but what's with the manly bits? I've seen many kouroi more endowed than this! Hell, if it is really Zeus or Poseidon, I'd be pissed. Who could pray to a tiny-peckered god?
Albrecht Dürer in that self portrait? I'm on the fence. I think (for some really strange reason) had this been done in an etching, I'd be hot for it. But there's something just sad (pathetic) about his eyes that doesn't catch my lust. Maybe his eyes are to beady or something.

RoseLeigh
03-05-2008, 12:18 AM
Hhehehe. Aww limbs are overrated! My vote was yes on the Mausolos and Durer and 'eh' on the Poseidon. Apparently in person though, the Poseidon is hot, small tackle or not. According to my friend. ;D

OMG I was invited to take the honors Art History seminar next year! Two semesters, writing a major paper. I;d have to scale back my plans for senior year, because I still have to take a regular AH seminar as well. I don't know if I should. It might drive me mad, and I'm already stressed. I have to come up with a topic and find an advisor...

What kind of ideas do you have about topics? I'd love to hear some.

I have no freaking clue! I know what I love ancient to medieval and clothing/material culture. And the two medieval teachers are on sabbatical at the moment, so I'm sort of limited to my hot Greece teacher. Though he does teach Byzantine...Hmm...

This is my prob-I just wanna play with everything. I'm good at writing, but I'd rather be touching the art/clothing/material remains of some civ no one knows anything about. Yet.

ETA: Damn, just found out the school I REALLY wanted to go to for my MA is closing the Museum Studies/Textiles section. Booo.

Okay I'm thinking about topics...something about non-Greek costume in Greek art. Or something about Minoan clothing... Chitons are kinda boring. Thinking...

RESULT! Nuzzles must have worked. I have to write a one page thingy about my topic to actually be accepted for next year, but for now, he's agreed to be my advisor and is hooking me up with a grad student who's studying ancient costume as well! :monkeedan

And he suggested I do my research paper for this semester's class on costume as well (we need to get research topics approved) and is sending me some bibiliography info.

I will definitely need some English genius help, Ms. Tempest! Pls? :)

This is so exciting!!

I've never considered ancient costume as a subject for study. My current Greek professor absolutely loves reconstructions, I bet she'd be all over this. Let me know when you publish.... :writing:

Published? LOL Nah, it's just for the honors seminar next year. I do have to 'present' my paper at some thing though. OMG, that means I have to talk in front of people, doesn't it? *hides behind books*

And yeah, I loves clothing. The grad student who will hopefully be helping me is doing work on hats and headscarves. Cool stuff.

I start a new quarter tomorrow :( I've been out of school a few terms to travel and I'm still not ready to go back but I don't think I'll ever be. I'd like to graduate sometime within the next two years so I can finally move on to graduate studies which I'm actually looking forward too.

I'm a weird History and Art History major.

I'm taking a Modern Art class, Pre-Columbian Art, and a lovely post 1700 Western Civ class with a professor described as "satan" and the "worst professor in existence" on RateMyProfessor. I only wish someone else taught the class too. I'll just have to survive like everyone else. 15 units on a quarter system is not too big of a deal I think. I've only done a semester schedule before but I pulled 21 and 23 units my last two terms.

RoseLeigh
04-02-2008, 09:32 AM
^^There's CIVILIZATION post 1700? ;) History and Art History is a good combo. A lot of AH majors are TOTALLY missing historical context.

Yesterday's stupid required attendance medieval studies class consisted of showing us the last 75 minutes of Henry V. The prof said he thought it was realistic to medieval battle. Realistic as filtered through Shakespeare and then Ken Branaugh? I could have stayed home and watched my copy! So annoying. I did like the other movie he had us watch, with Christopher Lee as Phillip of Spain, but I doubt that was historically accurate either.

Also-We got an extension for our Byzantine papers-two weeks extra because the Met's Byz section is closed. Wooo! I still have 2 (one research, one reaction)papers and a thesis proposal, but I have way more time. ;D I go to talk to the prof tomorrow morning about the research one.

HOLY FUCKCAKES

My 8-wk English class started yesterday. I was like ahh, this'll be a breeze, I'm a pwnz0r in ENglish classes anyway.

ALAS! In only 2 tiny little months, I have 1 3-5 pg. essay, 3 5-8 pg. essays, 1 8-11 pg. essay, 1 presentation, 5 graded journal entries per week, 5 pop quizzes, and if I ever show up late the teacher will totally hate me (she made this clear). T__T I'm only a freshman.... *sniffle*

May I have a cup of coursework overload, please? No sugar, thanks.

Holy crepe TSK! That's insane. Is it a 100-level Composition class?

AmazingKat

Everyone who posted on RatemyProfessor about this guy sucking balls was totally right. He is without a doubt the worst lecturer I've ever had. I have no idea how I'm going to survive the next ten weeks. So many people got up and left about 30 minutes into his lecture, presumably to drop the class, on the first day.

*doh!* I wish someone else taught it. I'm going to rip my eyes out.
