Please kill me. Please?
I have one month left, and it's seriously becoming death. DEATH!
I have multiple assignments, 8 econ tests, 3 finals, a final project (actually, 2), an interview/paper, and a ridiculous amount of busy work (the majority of which is in Spanish). I also have to register and bitch about my credits to my transfer school.
Would it be bad to go get drunk before class? Probably. Damn.

^^There's CIVILIZATION post 1700? ;) History and Art History is a good combo. A lot of AH majors are TOTALLY missing historical context.
Yesterday's stupid required attendance medieval studies class consisted of showing us the last 75 minutes of Henry V. The prof said he thought it was realistic to medieval battle. Realistic as filtered through Shakespeare and then Ken Branaugh? I could have stayed home and watched my copy! So annoying. I did like the other movie he had us watch, with Christopher Lee as Phillip of Spain, but I doubt that was historically accurate either.
Also-We got an extension for our Byzantine papers-two weeks extra because the Met's Byz section is closed. Wooo! I still have 2 (one research, one reaction)papers and a thesis proposal, but I have way more time. ;D I go to talk to the prof tomorrow morning about the research one.
1. I knowz my history, woman!
But yes, historical context just really makes everything click. If you don't understand the social/political/cultural histories, the art is relatively meaningless.
2. Christopher Lee is a REAL actor. They don't make 'em like him anymore.
3. Darlin' I have no idea how bonkers I would go if I had access to the Met for research. That's like the coolest thing ever. EVAR.
Genetics is hard, and I hate my prof because he over-complicates everyting by using academic-speak instead of regular words. >:(
My best friend's father (all through middle and high school) was one of the leading research geneticists in albino studies. I never understood what the hell he was talking about even though he was the nicest man. He did prove some sort of correlation to albinos and New Zealand though. That's all I ever learned from him.

LOL! :D
Nope, it's Eng. 205: Intermediate Critical Thinking/English Comp. I'm sure I can pull an A, it's just going to be a total pain and I will have little to no life.
On the other hand, I aced my Psychology exam in about 15 minutes (avg time is 40). 8) The professor was just smiling at me as I turned in my scantron. Score!
Well, that's a relief! I was wondering-what sort of Eng Comp was that?? You will rock it! :headbange

I know you do! I didn't mean YOU. I have lots of classes with people keep asking questions like What are those 4 winged things around the beardy guy?
Yes, Christopher Lee rocks my socks. And he sings! In 4 languages. I would marry him. It was a silly movie though.
The Met's totally a PITA to get to, sadly. Train to bus, takes forever, but it IS awesome. I NEED to get up there soon, too. Come to NJ. Bring challah. ;D Aren't there cool museums in AZ?

Anyone here dropping a class? I think I am going to, I am taking four classes and I got a "d" on one of them. This is seriously messing me up on the other classes. I feel like I can devote more time to the other three if I drop this one. Just seems like the best thing to do right now.

How to I make myself go to a class I absolutely hate? I have wonderful classes all morning and then I have to stick around for 2 hours to attend my stupid Western Civ class for another hour until its rush hour and I can't make myself stay. I'm just not motivated but I have to pass it and only one prof teaches it.
Bribe myself with ice cream? Lush? Get someone to spank me?

I hate my math teacher. HATE. We had a homework assignment due Tuesday, covering the stuff we learned, on Tuesday. WTF? And then he gets all butthurt that we didn't know it already, claiming that we are required to learn ahead 'just like in your other classes' and yells at us that we have double standards for math and are still on brain spring break.
No bucko, we like to, you know, learn stuff before we're graded on it. Instead of spending all class hearing about how you harassed 10 year olds to basketball glory 20 years ago and how you spent 7 years on your math degree, working 2 jobs, attending school full time and only sleeping on Sundays, while ignoring your 4 kids. (I kid you not people.) We could be learning math! This guy makes me furious.

 Just stopping in to say hello! I'm a brand new baby student, in my first week of my first term of school.
This term I taking:
Introductory Algebra
Effective Learning strategies (study habits class)
I've already learned how to avoid homework by surfing Stripperweb;D! I'm hoping to benefit from Y'alls wisdom on campus. I'm a complete neophyte when it comes to college success, or even what all my options are, for that matter.
I was nervous about my algebra class, but so far I'm getting it. I'm guessing it is only going to get harder, but I haven't had any kind of algebra ever, and only took remedial math classes in high school, 21 years ago.
I'm not sure where I picked up my math skills, probably working in construction over the last 6 years. Now I just have to learn the terminology and how to properly write out equations. I've been making up my own methods for calculating things like: how many cubic yards of concrete do I need for a garage floor, driveway and sidewalk. (I needed to get this right because if I ordered too little, I'd have to pay extra for an addition delivery of more material, too much and I'm paying for concrete that is just going to get thrown away)
Anyhoo, just saying hello. I'm still in the honeymoon stage of my education experience:). I'm sure that by mid-terms I'm going to be sweating real sweat and bleeding real blood and everything!

And this is why I'm an English major.
I kind of wish I was kidding, but I've met A LOT of Math teachers like the one you describe.
I'm totally having an attack of senioritis this year. I don't want to drive 45 minutes, stay for an hour and drive 45 minutes home. It's annoying. And that's two days of the week. The other two days I get to stay two and a half hours and drive home. -bangs head against wall-

Now I can finally post in this thread! :D
I'm taking two classes this summer:
A session: BIO156IN- Introduction to Biology for Health Professionals & Lab
B session- BIO201IN- Anatomy and Physiology I & Lab
156 is a prerequisite for 201, and I need 201 as part of my prerequisites to apply for the nursing program.

CLAS 403 History of Ancient Greece (not so happy about this - have done it a bajillion times)

Woo, I'm doing Ancient Greece too! I don't register until Wed. but I hope to do a Roman Civ class, Ancient Greece, Near Eastern religions (wooo!) and 2 art historys. Depends on which I get into.
I have a response paper, a research paper and that damn thesis proposal thing. :( I have an outline for the research one. Bleh. I can't even decide WHAT to do my honors thesis thing on. *sigh*

I have 35 pages of a script due by like... May 1st or so. I have about 9 written. I should really get on that. But I'm playing games online and shopping for clothes. I'm so good at procrastinating.
And... I signed up for next semester today! Here's hoping it's my last, I just have to get all the paperwork filled out to see if I actually qualify to graduate.
Keep your fingers crossed for me!!

04-07-2008, 08:39 PM
why is is impossible for me to begin any real studying before 10 o'clock at night? Does this happen to anyone else? Seriously, it's like this no matter what time I actually sit down.... it really sucks b/c the library/coffee shops always close just when I really start getting into stuff. And I don't have the necessary interweb connect @ my house....
AND I have a paper on indigenous/catholic syncretism due tomorrow. blech
All college towns should be required to have at least one 24 study spot that isn't a Dunkin' Donuts! (which is where I'll probably end up later tonight) >:(

Hopefully, I get to join this thread in a few days. I just applied to the Academy of Art University in San Francisco for their online BFA in Computer Arts and New Media. I've been a web designer for about 12 years now (man!) but I want the paper. The best part is that the online classes for that major are free! I already have most of my generals, and I get tuition reimbursement from my employer, so this could work out well.
My only gripe is that I might have to get a Mac. Bah.

Anyone know when Summer Semester Books start going on the shelves?
scarlett_vancouver
04-08-2008, 12:49 PM
I'm certain it's different at every school. New issue books usually show up late, like a week ahead of course start date, but books that are used every semester should already be there.
I'm up writing a pest management strategy for apple orchards, and all the pictures of bugs are making me itchy :(

If you have the book titles... hit up Amazon, half.com or something like that. Sooo much cheaper, even with S&H.
Miss_McKenna
04-08-2008, 08:32 PM
I agree ^^ I use Amazon religiously for my textbooks, and then when I'm done I always sell them again on there for more than I could sell them for at our bookstore on campus.
In other matters, our Stats teacher told us today before he returned our midterms, that half the class rocked it and half bombed it. Guess who was in the bombed side? *raises hand ashamedly* :( . Oh yeah, and my French 201 summer class was taken off the "offered" list. If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go find a bridge or tall building......
Is it time to graduate yet??

This semester has been hell for me! The one class that I didn't think I'd have to write a bazillion papers in actually requires about a 25 page one due in the next two weeks. I have to analyze every little detail (carbs, proteins, vitamins....) of the foods I ate in 3 days. I just finished 2 research papers for my other 2 classes AND there is a blinkin Power Point due in a few weeks as well!
Now next semester's Microbiology doesn't look so daunting:p
