Yay! we made to the end of the semester... my report card, i made 3 b's and one c. Not my best, but I was struggling to just stay in school this semester, I wanted to drop my classes so badly, but I stuck with it and finished the classes. So I'm happy! I'm taking one class this summer, anyone else planning on going to summer school?

I did way better than I thought I would. I even raised my GPA back to 3.5 which is awesome. I'm starting to worry about a lot of things, though. I cut down my summer courses to only one course, and now I'm not sure if I'll even be able to do that and stay sane. I've got to worry about finding a place to live this summer, and being able to take care of a little one, working, and doing a class might be an overload waiting to happen. What do ya'll think? Should I just drop the course and stop worrying about it? I still plan on going back full time in the fall, so maybe I'm just being too hard on myself.

I'm really happy that I finally have something to add to this thread!! I will be starting on-line school in July! I got awarded financial aid so I will be covered for the whole year. I am taking: English comp, intro to counseling, into to criminal justice and drugs and society. I'm really super excited for everything except Englishes comp. I love writing but not technical/research paper style. I'm pretty nervous about taking classes on-line but I think it will be really convenient. I hope I like it!!!!

FUCK my university for not offering Portuguese!!! No, for the upteenthth time, I do not want to take French as my adjunct language! or German! or Japanese! And fuck you, only-other-school-on-this-side-of-town, for only offering Portuguese at times when I have my major classes. FUCK.
I'm taking Arabic. WTF am I supposed to do with that?

Ahhhh I'm so excited!
I graduated from college and found work..but I hated every second of it. The jobs I really wanted (I'd ideally like to work for a college/university) required a Master's.
I could in no way afford to go back, but I filled out a few college's forms...and I found out that because of my income (tiny) and the fact that I'm all by myself...they'll cover everything. Tuition, living expenses, even my books!
So now I'm scrambling to get all of my application materials ready for the fall semester. Most deadlines have come and gone, but I found a few good universities whose deadline isn't until September!
I'm going to grad school!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's been posted yet. SW students:what are you taking this semester? Speak to us of the horrors of your college education! ;D
As for me, I start in less than 2 weeks and I'm taking:
later Medieval history-for the minor
Ancient Near Eastern history-'cross cultural'and social science requirement
Algebra 2 :(-stupid math thing that I should have tested out of-I've already done Stats!
Late Greek art-Major
Byzantine Art-Major
Mostly good stuff and NO languages!
I majored in Ancient Medieval history too, but for my BA. I had to take two years of latin..ugh.
Well next term I will be taking
-genetics
-parasitology
-immunology
-neuroanatomy
-physiology
I don't sleep very much, but I like it.

I am a Women's Studies/ Political Science major and will be graduating in Spring of 09. This year is going to be a f*$%ing bitch. Fall semester I will be taking about 17 (maybe more?) credits. On top of that I have to get a 'straight' job and mostly likely work about 40 hours too. I have ADD (truly, not just an affinity for ritalin) and this seems like its really going to be an uphill battle. Here is an anticipated schedule:
African American Women Slavery to Present - 391
Violence Against Women- Service Learning - 336
Politics of Race Class and Gender - 318
Concepts of Comparative Govt - 358
History of Political Thought- Writing Intensive - 342
+ probably going to drop -History of Medicine and Public Health: Womens Health-398
After this I wanted to get into an ACE RN program-I just had so many WMNS credits already it was the fasted path to finishing my degree- and I will need the money!

Ok I'm having a hard time deciding what I'm going to do this fall. I was going to go to school full time and work 3 to 4 days a week. BUT- now I'm running into a problem... I have to find a place to live within 6 months, so now everything seems almost too complicated. I'm thinking maybe I should just cut back my classes to half time, especially since most of them are online and I'm not even sure if I'll have a personal computer in a few months...
So yeah, should I just tough it out or save myself some stress and cut back to half time while I work out the fundamentals of life??? I think I could handle full time, but I just worry about stressing myself out too much. I'm prone to mental break downs :(

I couldn't register when I was supposed to because of an office error (don't I love those.....) but it seems like everything is still going to work out okay hours wise. I was really scared I was going to have to wake up at the crack or have to take late classes on the days I work or having the dreaded scattered classes through out the day schedule.
I'll be taking Speech and Philosophy at night on Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 9 and then three upper level CJ courses from 11 to 4 on Tuesday and Thursday. One stats, one writing intensive and the other with an iffy teacher....it should be interesting.
Oh yha, I also need one more class and all I really have to take is math which I really suck at so that'd make my schedule even harder!

that's why I didn't take summer classes. they have to fit a semester's work into a couple of weeks... too hard for me.
I haven't started had a chance to pick my classes yet for my sophmore year in college.
but I'm ready to start taking some real classes after taking the usual bs classes universities require freshmen to take.

Im in a community college so Im paying $20 per unit. I guess if I were in a University Id take more since it costs per semester. Im going to transfer to the UC as a junior.
I just started. This summer session is my first time going to college but my plan is to take 4 classes in the fall and see how that goes. Take 4 in the spring. Take 4 in the summer (2 sets of 2 classes) So, rather than 5-6 per spring and fall and having summer off if all works out Ill still transfer in 2 years (on time)
Does that make sense?
I dont have a major yet.... taking classes to figure out what I like and will pick probably just before transfering to state.

I just got an email saying: (woohoo) you've been awarded $8,000 for the 2008-2009 school year.
Followed by an email saying: (bumfuckers) we just figured out that you DONT qualify for financial aid awards because you've already completed your core degree requirements.
I'm fucked. fucked fucked fucked. AND this was supposed to be my last semester.

Did you fill out a FAFSA? If not hop on that real quick. You usually have to fill one out so your school can determine aid eligibility.

I'm starting college in August. I'm so nervous :-[. My grades were absolute shit in high school &I get stressed out very easily. I'm also extremely lazy.
BUT... I am taking:
Fundamentals of Speech Communication (I don't know why this is required)
Contemporary Literature
Basic Algebra II
Anthropology
I want to start taking classes &working to become a nail technician, too. It only takes 3 months to get a license. I don't know if it'll end up being my career later on down the road, but I'm only 18, &between doing nails &stripping I'll be making a lot of money.
WOW, that was long :O.

Im currently on academic probation. I have to finish these two classes with 2.0 or better to be taken off. Cant get financial aid until thats done. I have an appointment with a counselor the Monday before my last day. I have 2 weeks between that and the start of the fall semester. Im hoping they can speak with my teachers and take me off so I can take the other 2 classes I want (Ill have to walk in and do an add thingy because theyre full). Currently I can only take 6 units at a time but want to take 13 in the fall.
Needless to say I dont think I can fill out the FAFSA until Im off academic probation. I dunno tho... its all so confusing.

Is that grants? Im not going to qualify for any grants and I dont even know if I can get loans due to Bs income (even tho net is way less than gross because of the child support) And if I want scholarships Ill have to try that too. I dont get how all this works...

Why can you only get $1500 per semester? Just curious... you dont have to answer if you dont want to.
Everytime I went to this same school I got $5k per semester but that was when my income was really really low.
RoseLeigh

You'll prob not qualify for any free help, but you might get federal loans. Also search on scholarships for women, mature women, non-traditional students, your major, that sort of thing. There are quite a few scholarships for older women, especially in the 'useful' majors-business stuff, science, nursing/medical. Might take a bit, as far as being on academic probation goes-many scholarships do have GPA requirements, but not all.

I live with my father. Before taxes and medical insurance payments, he makes 80,000. They assume he pays something towards my tuition and he doesn't.
