A measure of financial success isn't how much money you MAKE, but its how much money you SAVE.
^^So very true.
I make a lot of $$ per hour. But I still can't compare my job to my 40hr/week friends because I'm not working 40 hours a week. I can't. I'm at 31 hours right now and it's killing me.
Our income is also in pre-tax dollars, and we spend our pre-tax dollars before the tax bills are due 4x a year. This job is a financial mind-fuck.
On another note, I just need to get this off of my chest... The poll options are borderline rude and extremely thoughtless. At least there was an "other" option. Phew.

I voted #3. Hey, I too was once in that boat. It took me a few years to learn how to save.

Umm I refuse to vote because that poll is stupid.
I spend a lot of money on costumes, props and travel. I make a shit load of money, yes. But I also spend a lot on the job.
Why do I do it?
Well I get paid to travel the country(soon the world). I get the power and ego trip of featuring clubs around Canada. I have a job that keeps me in great physical shape(when im not breaking my body lol) and I get to play dress up.
I love putting on big fancy shows, I love hearing people go 'omg look at her! Shes fucking amazing!'.
As much as I hate my job some days, I still love it.
I make more then most people make working regular jobs and I have fun doing it.
Do I pocket as much of it as I should? No. Do I care? Not really... im still saving what money i don't spend on work and myself and im rather happy with the way my life is.
....So...The answer would be lifestyle then...for you...maybe:-\

i'm a moderate drinker and i don't do anything else besides smoke a little weed here and there. i'm a full time student with a very high GPA. i'm 28 years old and i think i manage the money i have just fine.
IMO, i'm a great dancer and a really good entertainer. i am, however, a clean dancer in a very dirty city.
i dance because it allows me the time and flexibility to go to school. in all honesty, i don't make any more now than i did teaching. the only difference is, i work about 20 hours less a week.
i picked "other" because none of those apply to me.
I commend you for being a clean dancer!!!!
I'm a clean dancer in a dirrrty city and it's not easy.
Which is why I'm broke sleeping on a friend's floor.

its too sporadic. One week you'd earna fortune, then another you'd earn nting. You cant make plans or be investing securely in that way.
Great for paying off bills, buying things you need/want but not so good for long term stuff I think.

I chose "strippers have more money than people think" but I am only speaking for myself, not for other girls.
What does "rich" mean, anyway? The same ammount of money can be spent a lot of different ways....luxury goods, basic needs, savings.
Most dancers aren't making enough to own a house AND a new car AND a bunch of designer clothes AND a Roth IRA. You have to make choices.
I make very good money dancing, but no one would really know it. My standard of living is about what it was when I was a college student -- small house, older car, wear jeans and T-shirts every day. My money goes to starting a business, putting my boyfriend through college, and savings. Those are my priorities. No one else has to has to share them, and I wouldn't judge anyone else who had different priorities. But those are mine.

1) I was too insecure in the beginning to go work in a top club. Now I could.
2) I did not work full-time, for various reasons.
3) I blew the money I should have saved- I never had money to throw around before.
4) I stupidly gave money to friends and family...Never again!
.
Yup, this is basically me, all in a nutshell. I'm working on not helping family out finacially, and working more than 15-40hrs/month..yes, month.

i think it depends on what you think is rich.
I don't think someone who has a million dollars is rich, maybe 10+. Some people feel differently.
With inflation rates, even if you have a million in ten years, it will mean a lot less then.
Rich is also to me more about money. I have seen many people rich and unhappy.
^I agree. What's 'rich' to me, might be 'peanuts' to somebody else. I have my own definition of wealthy. I really just want to be secure and comfortable.

^ Same here. Back when I was starving and making only $5000/yr, the "per capita" income of $30,000 seemed huge. Given the paltry lifestyle and small living expenses that I had at the time, I could have lived off $30,000 and still had a good bit of savings left over. Then when I started dancing and making a LOT more than $30,000, I had things that I never had before and I considered myself "rich" for someone my age(22/23 at the time). But now that I'm accustomed to making a decent salary and I see that most of my fellow high school classmates/alumni make not much less than I do, I don't feel rich at all...just normal or slightly better.
