I've had my license for over 6 years. I can only drive auto. I'll only ever drive auto. I agree with Mermaidnz, why make life harder than it has to be?
Saving a smidge on petrol is just not worth being constantly frustrated for me. But then again I drive a V8.
In six years I've ony ever once been put in a position where it would have been benificial to drive manual; and I solved it pretty quickly by getting my flatmate to drive.

Listen to the tester. Every word. Do not worry about what s/he is writing down. Do the best you can and then see how you went.. where your weaknesses were.. and work on them.
Please do update us aussiebelle!!! ;D
Thanks hun! :)
I've been driving with my friend all weekend and I still suck at parallel parks. I just can't get in close enough without hitting the curb. Everything else is ok i think.
We'll probably go out again one more time this afternoon and then call it quits till the test tomorrow.

I do agree with you ellebelle. I don't think I would have gone for my manual (especially in Victoria where we can drive it anyway once we're off our P's) if I hadn't bought a manual car a couple of years ago. Silly me, thought driving manual would be simple, and i'd pick it up quickly even though I hadn't driven it before. ::)
haha two years later, I am JUST going for my license now ;D

I don't have a driver's license either. I will be 26 this summer and I will be damned if I have to continue to depend on public transit anymore. I was suppose to get it before I moved, but the people were unreliable.

Just an update on my license test yesterday.
I failed. :(
I am so pissed off. Mostly at my self but it doesn't help that the driving tester was a prick :(
What happened was I was driving into an intersection and had to turn right. Up until now everything had gone well. I had perfect car control, smooth gear changes, indicating, head checks rada, rada (even if I do say so myself).
Approaching the intersection I was the first car in my lane turning right, so naturally I thought I would easily make the turn. There was a green light, so I moved just ahead of the line, waiting for the oncoming traffic. There was a few cars, then a slower car behind, so I waited. By this stage (after waiting for all the cars) the light had gone red so I didn't make the turn because I kind of figured going through a red light would be an immediate fail. BUT I failed immediately anyway because my front wheels were slightly over the line. I wasn't into the intersection just slightly over the line.
Damn it. I know it was my fault but damn, bad fucking luck.
And I'm pissed off because I have to wait another month minimum to get another appointment and I have uni assignments coming up and I really can't afford to take more time off. :(
And to top it off the prick of the driving assessor had the fucking nerve to tell me that he had failed three people already that morning for the same thing.
Sorry, rant over.
And I still can't legally drive.

Rant away aussiebelle :)
I can empathise... I truly can empathise.
I have only known less than a handful of people who passed first time. My first time I was failed due to round-a-bouts, the second time due to having an accident within the first 2 minutes of the test and the third time.. hmm.. i've forgotten what made me fail the third time. All I know is that it took me three tried before I finally passed.
Granted, I've known more people who passed after their 2nd or 3rd attempts.

^ You do not know how much better that makes me feel :) Thanks GCG :)
Still frustrated with not being able to get another appointment for about a month and with taking a couple of days off uni making me behind now for NO reason but MUCH better to know that lots of people don't get it first time either. Argh. Most of my friends are those people who got their license like the day of or the day after their 18th!

Are you going for an automatic or manual license? That is the difference.
It took me four times as I mentioned going for an AUTO license
Yet that month wait is a bitch. Nothing can be done about it.. everyone has to do it even I had to do it way back then.. one or two lessons a week whilst I waited for my next attempt.

I'm going for a manual license but it wasn't really the whole 'manual' thing but more the stupid road rule thing ;D
Still bitter, much?! ;D
Oh well, looks like I'm stuck with the dodgy connex trains all the time for a while longer! And just when I was looking forward to buying a slab of Pure Blonde and putting it in the boot of my car :(

the learners license is written.
it's the one for your actual license (P plates) that is "in car".
plus it is easy ... and you can take it as many times as you want without the one month waiting period unlike the actual "in car" exam.
if i ever do want to go for my exam for my manual and thus open license... i learnt many years ago to do so in Darwin. it will still hold ground and convert over to qld. why darwin? NO FUCKING HILL STARTS !!!!
Seriously. It is flat flat flat there and generally easy as to drive around (I did one time).
