Does anyone have a background in marketing?
I do, but you've already chased Cameron away from me, ;D .
I would tell you the size of the marketing and ad budgets I manage, but it's just red meat in this thread right now.
Look, I'm advocating the hiring of a professional to be responsible for ad recruitment and placement. Full-time. It's the only way to drive enough potential advertisers here to have enough of them stick. This will be very expensive initially, but very sensible in the long run. It's too important to rely on volunteers. It would also maximize the likelihood that the mainstream advertisers you like could be drawn to the site.
Other thoughts on this welcome! This was just my proposal.....

Well, as far as outsiders (esp payment processors) are concerned, SW is already a porn site so it wouldn't make a difference if cams were setup on this domain or not. And I think the name StripperWeb is GREAT for cams. It could go under a subdomain, and the marketing potential there is awesome. But no matter on which domain the cams were setup, handling the money would be ridiculously easy. Site owner (Pryce) processes the payments through the payment gateway that is said to be on its way and then pays the girls their cut. Same as any other cam site.
I think the cam thing could actually be a profitable endeavor, not just a fundraiser thing.

^^^^ That is a great idea. I really like that.
I would sign up to be a cam girl.

I've spend the last hour cleaning this thread, so I will be making this quick.
Most of the cleaned posts are asking questions that we do not yet have answers for - well that and being sarcastic (heh, I'm keeping the trend going). Answers to your questions are coming. They are literally being collected and complied today - they will be posted when we have solid quotes and people signed on to do the work. I want to get things right the first time.
The fundraiser's goal is to fix up existing problems with the site get the site and to get it generating reoccurring income to support itself. There will be firm numbers released on our goal and a progress bar for everyone to see during the fundraising stage (and as long as the site cannot sustain itself). Once reoccurring income is being generated then we can see how much development/maintenance/promotion/etc we can afford.
Why not have members/students/volunteers program the site? That role would give someone access to ALL personal data for ALL members at this time. As an existing member has a stake in the community, I am not comfortable giving them that much power fearing it may be abused. A complete stranger is more likely to treat it just as a job. This choice is being made to protect your privacy. Additionally, we want professional quality work and people who can be called upon to perform. Programming can be demanding and I need people I can demand upon - I can't expect as much from a volunteer.
That said, it is looking very likely that advertising (at least the common ads) will be handled by AdBrite, Inc.
Also, I am becoming increasingly comfortable making it a site offense to complain about sponsors - both individuals and companies.
