I didn't mean to confuse anyone. He was hit and killed.
I was hoping that didn't happen. I'm so sorry he's gone.
>root beer memories< Losing a pet is hard. There was something so cute and special about him. :'(

I'm so sorry Emily. I know ecards are more suitable to happy occasions, but we can only do what we can.

Oh Jesus. Emily I'm so so sorry. I dont even know what to say. If theres ANYTHING I can do dont hesitate to ask..even if you just want to talk.
I dontknow if you've read The Rainbow Bridge before...it always makes me feel a bit better when I lose a loved baby:

thanks guys. I feel so guilty. I just keep thinking of what I did wrong
I was going to bring Root Beer with me to Chrissy's house (where I was supposed to stay over the night before, but ended up staying with our other friend) and at the last minute decided not to and left him alone with my boyfriend. I know RB didn't like my boyfriend but they were making progress. RB would even hang out on his lap with I wasn't home lately. Seemed like no big deal.
And then instead of going straight home after work that afternoon, I went to Atlantic City to play poker. if I had just gone home, I would have beat my boyfriend home from his work and Root Beer wouldn't have freaked and ran off when he did.
I know my boyfriend feels horrible. He doesn't know RB is dead yet either.
Again I am so sorry. And I know that right now you feel like it is your fault, but it isnt. It was an accident, and its no one's fault.
Your poor bf, too. I just cant imagine.

That is just so awful! I am so, so very sorry. I can't imagine how you must feel. Oh man. I'm sure it was quick, if that is any consolation. I know it probably isn't, but I'll bet he felt no pain.
Again, I am so sorry.

 Oh no! :'(
This is one of my worst fears. I have a small dog that crowds you whenever a door is opened and tries her hardest to escape, and I've had to chase her on busy roads time and time again.
And the Rainbow Bridge always makes me cry... I've had a few horses be put to sleep and I'd like to think that I get to see my babies again :)

he thinks it's his fault too.
It's hard not to blame yourself for something preventable. I'm trying not to.

I know exactly how you feel. It hurts to think about this..but hopefully my experienbce will make you feel better.
I have several birds. They spend time in a very large outdoor cage on my covered back porch when it is nice outside. They love the fresh air and calling back and forth to other birds, watching lizards run up and down the screens, etc..
They used to have a cage with a reg latch lock. One day after I put them back in the cage after their free play time outside it, I went to the front of the house to see what hubby was up to. Gorgeous sunny day.
A freak mini tornado blew down the street out of literally NOWHERE. Set off car alarms, everything. In the cpl minutes it took for me to go from the front of the house to the back to check on the birds, the latch on the cage blew open and one of the little ones was blown into the pool.
She drowned by the time I got back there.
I spent a VERY long time blaming myself...what if I hadnt latched the cage right? Could I have left it unlocked? I couldnt remember.
Eventually I had to face the fact that it was just her time to go. It was such a freak occurance. I dont pretend to know why the powers that be felt the need to take her....she was so young...and take her in a way that would destroy me the most...but they did.
I bought a new outdoor cage with sliding plexiglass doors...impossible to blow open. Because all we can do is grieve, learn from it,and then do everything we can to make sure it doesnt ever happen again.
If nothing else...I hope this made you realize you arent the only one who is eaten alive by the guilt over a loved ones death.

I am so incredibly sorry to hear this. I was hoping he'd come back.
Please don't blame yourself. You were a good momma to him, and companion animals can scamper away before you know it. It just happened, and wasn't your fault.
Big hugs.

I am really sorry about your little friend. There is no way to avoid your grief over losing him, so let yourself go with it. These little guys become part of our hearts and it takes time to deal with the loss of something so dear.
Hang in there.

the guilt/blame part is tough, but I found something on that petloss.com page that helped, specifically,
"We are human beings, with frailties and faults. We don't know everything. We make mistakes. But we make them with the best of intentions.
To hurt ourselves with the terrible additional pain of guilt is to do disservice to the love we felt for our pets. With very, very few exceptions, we did the best we knew to do at the time"

one more thing, and this pisses me off a lot...
the peeople that found my dog were the people that lived at the house near where he was hit. They took his dead body and brought him into their yard so he wouldn't get hit more and used the info on his collar to contact me.
I don't know when he got hit, but someone hit him and left him. Accidents happen, but someone hit a fucking dog with a collar/ID tags on and didn't own up to it to tell me. That's horrible to let the owner keep worrying and looking.
Now I have to take down a bunch of Lost Dog signs (or look at them everywhere) which probably didn't have to go up in the first place.

The same thing happened to me with my little chihuaha. Some people are just heartless.
I didn't leave my house for a week, and still have a framed picture of her beside my TV.
