Go Stars!

I'm wishing I could hop a plane down to SJ tomorrow.

Nothing sexier than a beautiful woman wearing a hockey jersey with a Stanley Cup Finals patch.

I have been known to wear a Stars jersey on stage. During their Cup run in 1999 it really was a huge deal in Texas. Fun times. Sadly, Portland has no serious NHL loyalties (the closest team is the Canucks, 7 hours away in BC). That's the one flaw in this town as far as I'm concerned. Get rid of the Trailblazers and start making ice in the Rose Garden and I would be very happy.

That would get huge tips from me. :D

I've done the same for a dancer who wore her Raiders jersey on stage. I'm no Raiders fan, but she looked really good with it on.

The ATF has worn my Tom Brady jersey for me. Her agreeing to do so is one reason she is my ATF.

The Syracuse Crunch are one step closer to the Calder Cup after another overtime win over Manitoba Monday night. For just the third time in franchise history, Syracuse advances to the second round. The last time the Crunch made it that far, it was 1996, when many current Crunch players were still in high school.

Five of the six games against Manitoba went to overtime, and the Crunch is the first team in the American Hockey League’s 72-year history to win all four of its games in the extra frame.

The Syracuse Crunch are a minor league professional ice hockey team in the American Hockey League. They play in Syracuse, New York, USA at the War Memorial at Oncenter. They are the AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Columbus Blue Jackets. The Franchise originated as the Hamilton Canucks, which were an affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks played in Hamilton, Ontario for two seasons, before relocating to Upstate New York.

Just saying...I really know nothing. :)

I'm a musician; what do I know about hockey? Just wonder why, during floor fights, the local police don't step in with a few assault/misdemeanor tickets. If it were at a stripclub, they surely would.

By the way, Susan, in the mind-blowing frenzy your image created, I forgot to ask one question. Whose number are you wearing?

Susan Wayward
05-01-2008, 03:51 AM
Why, thanks for asking. That would be a signed #11 Blake Sloan jersey from 1999. Sloan was a fine Humanitarian Award-winning player at Michigan who was called up from the AHL's Houston Aeros to join the Stars that season (98-99). I believe he is now playing in Sweden or Germany.

From SI.com

''I didn't realize I hit him,'' Forsberg said. ''But I guess he was bleeding so I guess I did hit him, so I have nothing to say. If he's bleeding, it's four minutes. I didn't think I hit him that hard.''
Forsberg added that he felt Samuelsson sold the call.
''Definitely. He's laying there on the ice and I barely touched him,'' Forsberg said

That's rich Floppa, you are supposed to be the world's best player and yet I've seen you "flop" to the ice with the lightest contact, and you are a big boy. Mikael Samuelsson lost a tooth because of your errant stick. If that's "barely touching "I would hate to see you when you mean it. I'll tell you what, why don't you eat some more sour grapes and then take your ass back to Sweden.

On Phil Esposito's XM radio show yesterday some guy called in and asked what team would retire Jagr's number. Even though JJ has had a better season than I expected (mostly thanks to the rookie Dubinsky on his line) I just don't see #68 hanging from NHL rafters anytime soon. Anyone?

I have never liked Jagr. Ever.

He loafs far too much for my tastes, and though I respect his ability and clutchness, the loafing ruins things for me.

He's my captain and I accept his contributions to the team, but he's had a lot of times where he's completely vanished when he's been needed the most.

Until Adam Graves was announced to have his number retired, I had no doubt whatsoever that Jagr's contributions in their totality don't even come close to Gilbert, Giacomin, Messier, Richter, or Leetch, all of whom have their numbers retired, but since Gravy's going up, I guess a case could be made, sorta.

Don't look for me to back it, though. No goddamned way.

As I sat in the stands at Citizen's Bank Park, to watch my dear Giants play the Philadelphia Phillies, at one point during the 6th inning, a chant when up from the crowd...

"Let's Go Flyers! Let's Go Flyers."

The rest of the evening was punctuated with that chant and random cheering from the crowd. There was a loud cheer during the 8th inning visiting pitcher's warm up, presumably because somewhere...the Flyers were abusing the Canadiens.

P.S. Giants 3, Phillies 2. Poor Matt Cain gets an ND. I feel for that kid.

It would be awesome. How f-ing crazy would detroit be with ravers AND hockey fans. The town may explode..I don't know if it can handle that many people. This is my 3rd year at DEMF, E has been to every single one. The first year it was blazing desert hot, the next it rained the whole time. It'd be nice to have a weather balance. TOO bad that they couldn't have both overlap though...the ravers will just be sobering up as people head into town. The 26th could be crazy though!

As I'm *listening* to Stars/Sharks Game 6 (stoopid NASN is showing Game 5 right now - no flexibility in scheduling whatsoever)...yes I recognize I'm lucky they're still in the series. Morrow has two goals disallowed (before the game I saw the TSN talking heads say they didn't think the "kicked"-in goal was a distinct kicking motion - though I see back-heel kicks like that every day in soccer), but they did come back from a deficit *again* - thank you Joe Pavelski!

Funny thing---I had the hardest time finding a place in DC to watch Game 5 (every place I saw had every TV on the NBA playoffs, since it was the same night the Wizards got knocked out by the Cavs)...when I finally did convince the manager of the sports bar at the Hyatt to put the game on, I ended up sitting next to a couple from Dallas that had Stars season tickets!

Let's Go Sharks...make some history! (as in coming back from 3-0 down to win the series)

Hats off to the Stars...they outworked, and outlasted, the Sharks in the series. On Sharks radio immediately after the game, color commentator Jamie Baker pointed to the third period of Game 2 in San Jose (when the Sharks got completely dominated in going from 2-1 up to 5-2 down) as when they lost the series. Can't say I disagree. It would've taken an epic Sharks miracle and Stars collapse to come back from 3 games down. Just a bummer though, that I had to turn off my computer at 7:30am this morning and go to work after hearing a 2-1 loss in four overtimes.

Personally, I'd like to see a Detroit/Pittsburgh final, if only to see (arguably) this generation's best franchise go up against a rising team with lots of young talent.
