Hey HB, when the Leafs move down to the OHL can we have thier slot in the East?
Don't worry HB they're just building through the draft.
They just traded a 3rd round pick for Jamal Mayers...34 year old grinder.
Their last few moves in free agency and buyouts have seemed questionable.
In the end it's results that count. We'll see.

It's quite clear the Leafs goal is Tavares while having nothing but cap space for Brian Burke to do as he pleases next year.

I can only hope you are right...that is at least a plan.^^^
On another note:
I am bitter about what Jagr has done. I've had him in my keeper pool for 12 years. When I joined the pool as an "expansion" team, they gave me the first 10 picks in the draft to start building my team. I traded the first five picks for Jagr. I won 6 of the next 12 years and he was a big part of it. Now he's chosen to play in FUCKING SIBERIA.
One point shy of 1600 points.
(from the CBC):
The Kladno, Czech Republic, native has scored 646 goals and 953 assists in 1,273 NHL games with New York, Washington and Pittsburgh.
He ranks 12th all-time in goals and ninth overall with 1,599 points. The right-winger has added 181 playoff points, good for 11th on the all-time list.
Jagr won the Art Ross Trophy as top scorer in the NHL five times and captured the Hart Trophy in 1999 as league most valuable player.
He won two Stanley Cups with the Penguins.
He also won 2 Lester B. Pearson awards (mvp voted by the players).

So after Kevin Lowe's public slamming of Brian Burke (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yztuw7CJdbw), Gary Bettman puts a gag order on the two. Where were you over the last year Bettman?

^^^The difference was Burke was complaining about salary inflation...and Lowe mentioned Anaheim having a "pathetic market". Bettman represents owner interests...not the good of the game or anything like that.

The Wings just locked up Filppula - 5 years / 15 Mil. That takes care of the skill players. now we're looking for some "grit" but that player is going to have to accept a 2 way contract - which I hope McCarty will refuse. The Wings have to have a younger, faster banger in Grand Rapids.

The Sports Network (TSN), having purchased the rights to the famous tune, has rescored the Hockey Night In Canada theme, writen by Dolores Claman in 1968. Saturday nights won't be the same, but change is inevitable. CBC is having a contest for a new theme song for their broadcasts, and TSN will now be playing the older theme. Sounds ok to me.
Click on the video to hear the updated version our unofficial National Anthem:

Speaking of hockey, my Winter 40+ league started up last night. We had a famous victory, defeating a team that went undefeated in the summer, and we haven't beaten in 5 years of playing them. The new guy we picked up helped ;) I'm playing 2 hours of shinny back to back on Sunday mornings for the winter, and loving it already.
Soon, the hockey pool draft will happen, and all will be right with the world.
Oh yeah...Friday night, myself and seven of my teammates are heading down to the Air Canada Center to a private box to watch the Leafs and Penguins in a pre-season game. Awesome. We are all going together in an Expedition with a DD, so some wobbly pops will be consumed.

Hockeybobby,
As you can see from the calendar, the game is coming up this weekend. I'm sure you are as excited for it as I am, as our cities are rivals and have been for quite some time. Your confidence in your team is high, but rest assured, you will suffer humiliation when the sports team from my area defeats the sports team from your area.
On numerous occasions, you have expressed the conviction that your area's sports team will be victorious. I must admit that every time I hear you make this proclamation, I react with both laughter and disbelief. "Ha!" I say to myself with laughter. "What?!" I say to myself in disbelief. How could you believe that your sports team could beat my sports team? It is clear that yours is inferior in every way.
When the sporting contest begins, the players on your team will be treated as though they are inconsequential. It will be remarkably easy for my team to accumulate more points than yours. There are many reasons for this, starting with the inferior physical attributes of the players representing your area. Strength, speed, and agility are just three of the qualities that the players on the team from your area lack. The players representing my area, on the other hand, have these traits in abundance.
I would not be a bit surprised if the individuals on the team from your area were sexually attracted to members of their own gender. That is how ineffective they are on the field of battle.
Underscoring your team's inferiority is its choice of colors. It is ludicrous to believe that your team's colors inspire either respect or fear. Instead, they appear to have been chosen by someone who is colorblind or, perhaps, bereft of sight altogether. The colors for my team, on the other hand, are aesthetically pleasing when placed in proximity to one another. They are a superior color combination in every way.
While we are on the subject of aesthetics, let us compare the respective facilities in which our teams play. While my team's edifice is blessed with architectural splendor and the most modern of amenities, yours is a thoroughly unpleasant place in which to watch a sporting contest. I know of what I speak, for I once attended a game between our respective teams in your facility. Let's just say the experience left me wishing that my car was inoperable that day due to mechanical problems, rendering it impossible for me to get to your area to attend the game.
If you need another reason why the sporting franchise representing my area is superior, look no further than the supporters for the two sides. Not only are the supporters of the team from my region more spirited, but they are also more intelligent and of finer breeding than you and the rest of your ilk. In addition, the female supporters of the team from my area possess more attractive countenances and figures than yours. Some of the women from my side that I have observed could make a living by posing for pictures for major men's magazines. The women who cheer for your team, I'm afraid, are far too unattractive to do so.
One of the more pathetic aspects of the team from your area is the fact that only people in your immediate area possess an affinity for it. By means of contrast, the team from my area inspires loyalty and affection in individuals who live in many other geographic locations.
To illustrate this point, let me tell a brief story: Recently, I was on vacation in an area of the country far away from my own, and I saw many individuals wearing items of clothing that bore the insignia of my team. I approached one such individual and asked him if he originated from my area. He said no, explaining that he simply liked the team from my area and had for many years. Interestingly enough, during this trip, I saw no clothing or other paraphernalia bearing the insignia of your team.
Do you still doubt that the team from your area is inferior to the one from mine? Just look at our teams' respective histories. In the past, we have defeated you on any number of occasions. Granted, there were times when your team beat my team, but those were lucky flukes.
The day of the game will soon be at hand. And no matter how hard you pray to a higher power or how many foam accoutrements you wear in support of the team from your area, your team will be defeated. We will win and you will lose. This is your fate.
Prepare for humiliation. It shall be upon you at the designated hour. }:D

SPLUT,
I must give credit where credit is due. That is truly one of the greatest "My team is redhot, your team aint doodleysquat" beat downs I've seen. It behooves me, after an effort like that from a fellow hockey fan, to respond in kind.
The game is tonight on CBC. The story on the CBC website about the game tonight: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008/10/09/detroit-toronto-preview.html pretty much confirms everything you've said with regard to how crummy my team is compared to yours these last few years. And yet...in any one game, my team has at least a puncher's chance of winning, in spite of the long odds.

Strength, speed, and agility are just three of the qualities that the players on the team from your area lack. The players representing my area, on the other hand, have these traits in abundance.
You forgot talent. Your team has more talent in Lidstrom's little finger, than mine has in total. Our best guy is on vacation too, on a 5 month honeymoon with his new swedish bride.
We will see which team has the most heart though...the most courage. What a delicious upset victory it would be if such a huge, HUGE underdog were to defeat the Stanley Cup Champions right out of the chute.
I would not be a bit surprised if the individuals on the team from your area were sexually attracted to members of their own gender. That is how ineffective they are on the field of battle.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Blue makes me think of cold steel. Red is a girlyman colour. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
There is no finer place to watch a game than my barn. I can see where your experience may have soured you to it though. We give all the crummiest seats to the out of town enemy team fans....you know, to prevent them from getting comfy, and to discourage them from ever coming back. The last game I saw was spent in such luxury, the likes of which an enemy fan barbarian will never experience in our building.
Now here, sir, you have stepped over the line. Our female fans are the finest, prettiest, and hottest in the world. This is common knowledge. To suggest otherwise betrays the empty frivolity of your boasts. Open your eyes man! And give your head a shake.
Now this is rubbish. My team is loved from coast to coast in this country, and your country too. Indeed there are fans of my team throughout the world. You are confused. What you witnessed is a sad phenomena. When a team wins a cup, or has an extended run of success, a whole pile of wannabe winners (but actual losers) will pile on the bandwagon and become instant fans. They attach themselves to that year's winner in the feeble hope that some winning will rub off on them. "Look at me! Look at me, I'm a winner, I'm important because my team rules" Ugh. They are Johnny-come-latelys without honour. Like most of the Montreal Canadiens fans in my country.
Do you still doubt that the team from your area is inferior to the one from mine? Just look at our teams' respective histories. In the past, we have defeated you on any number of occasions. Granted, there were times when your team beat my team, but those were lucky flukes.
My area has more Stanley Cup victories than yours. And really, hearing you refer to your area as "Hockeytown" makes us chuckle a wee bit too. Please. Cockytown would be more like it.
The day of the game will soon be at hand. And no matter how hard you pray to a higher power or how many foam accoutrements you wear in support of the team from your area, your team will be defeated. We will win and you will lose. This is your fate.
Prepare for humiliation. It shall be upon you at the designated hour. }:D
My foam accoutrements are more powerful than yours. One of my teammates, a good Canadian lad has invited me to his place to watch the game and perhaps have a beverage or two. We will be wearing our Jerseys with pride. Confidence is high.
When my team wins tonight, you will cry...somewhat like a baby might cry, and it will look like this: :'(

Leafs win on hard work, hustle, and good defense.
Darren McCarty just drove out onto Def Leppard's stage on the "Face Off Rocks" post game show on CBC on a Harley with the Stanley Cup (replica) strapped on the back. He lifts it high in the air and passes it to the lead singer of the band. The guy puts it down on a stand at the side of the stage UPSIDE DOWN. Oh the humanity.
The new hockey anthem for CBC is down to two finalists. In my opinion it's a slam dunk for "Sticks To The Ice" by Robert Fraser Burke...he's just a kid!! But his tune is awesome. Is the NHL even in Canada anymore? ;D Professional hockey seems to have flown south for the winter. Fla, Dallas, Phoenix, L.A. Not exactly the first cities one should have to think of when talking hockey. Maybe with the weaker dollar you northern boys should try buying a few back.
Hey I am proud to be an American and I think that the teams that were stolen and taken to the southern states is a bunch of shit! When my beloved NORTH STARS were kidnapped by a demon named Norm Green and moved in the middle of the night to Dallas? What the hell was that. Iam not all bitter Lol! All I m trying to say to all the Canadian fans out there I am sorry. I thank God that Minnesota got a team back here. I truly think that Tampa Bay (along with some others) belong in Canada and places like say Hartford. When durring the quest for Lord Stanley's Cup you could walk up to the ticked office and just buy a ticket durring the finals it's a sad state of affairs. But then again this is a Minnesota boy talking. Go Wild.;D There I am vindicated.

Toronto goes up 3 - 0 against Roberto Luongo, who is then pulled and replaced with Andrew Raycroft...a goalie who is currently still being paid by the Leafs. He proceeds to shut down the Leafs the rest of the way, while his teammates pocket 5 goals for the win.
The Flames are now playing the Oilers, but I can't bear to watch any more hockey today.
