I will require definite dates as well before I can say YAY or NAY ... so what definite dates are we all looking for this to happen? I won't confirm my attendance until I know the dates for sure.

Itll be either May 18-19 or 25-26. The second weekend suits me better, and my hubbie will actually be over at that time also.

So can we all agree on May 25-26th? It's a Sun-Mon so even private party girls won't miss out on work (since Fri/Sat are my private party work nights) ... and I will only miss out on one day of training.

Agreed with 25-26th. Even if we do a dinner thing on the Sunday night, and a lunch thing on the monday, hopefully the busy girls can make at least one thing.
GoldCoastGirl

I agree. Have a dinner on the Sunday and a late Lunch on the Monday to give everyone a chance to attend one or the other or both even if they are so inclined :)
May 25-26th !!! YAY!!!
MELBOURNE !!!
Now just "where" in Melbourne is the question.. I'm guessing within the CBD as that is easy for everyone to reach even if the person is coming straight from the airport.

CAN DO! :D :D :D
We'll figure out a meeting place soon. Once everyone agrees I'll buy my tickets.

I know absolutely nothing about Melbourne, so cant give any input on a meeting place :-)

We should go to a strip club and buy dances. :D
GoldCoastGirl
02-24-2008, 10:29 PM
Well.. ah.. maybe... there is plenty in the Melbourne CBD to see/do/meet/eat/drink/be merry without resorting to strip clubs ;)
Besides, I doubt I will have the $$ for that sort of expenditure. I mainly want to have a nice dinner or nice lunch or both for the SW fest here.
Any Melbournites that can recommend a good place to eat/drink/be merry? A place that can cater for all tastes as I don't eat meat yet do eat seafood, dairy and a little chicken.

'resorting' to strip clubs? o.O?
Yeah that sounds cool.

I can normally do a Sunday (except when I have a lot to do for uni), but have classes Mondays.
I am on a tight budget, so dinners out aren't really doable for me (and I like to pay my own way), but if I am free I will meet you all after dinner for coffee- $3 is totally doable :).
As far as food that will suit everyone goes, somewhere Asian might have something for all. There are loads of different places around the city.

some girls from work go to china bar which is apparently open all kinds of hours - it must be coz they go after work some nights.
Lysondra
02-25-2008, 04:51 AM
Mmmm...I love Asian foods! So cheap and delicious and I can always add more spices. Is there a noodle bar? 'cause a noodle bar would ROCK. Tom yum or pho or laksa.,..... :o~~

yeh china bar has all that ;D
I think we could resort to a SC later in the night too!!
Lysondra

Also have uni Tuesdays, however could perhaps catch up after my classes- it's looking like a shorter day for me, though I won't know all my tutorial times til Thurs.
Lysondra

Guess I'll have to sneak into your classes and pose as a student. P:

02-25-2008, 06:02 AM
You could do that! I have corporations law Tuesdays, which you might not be interested in, but you could always hang out on campus for a few hours if you aren't. We have a bar. And very bad sushi.

Kill your brother and teachers. Problem solved. Use a gun, because guns are unconstitutional and should be used. And you need to defend your rights to stripperdom.

Yeah, classes are huge, no-one would even notice.
However, they also go for two hours at stretch. If you think you can sit through it, you're welcome to. Otherwise, if you're finding that you can't (and legalism's not everyone's cup of chai latte, so that would also be absolutely fine), you could always slip out quietly and send me an sms with where to meet you at the end.

Bleh. Who needs family when you have the first ever (hopefully annual) SW Fest for Australia (or at least Australia and New Zealand if any Kiwis want to come along) !!!!
For those on a budget as well as those with Uni on Monday... why not late afternoon/early evening coffee n cake or something before dinner ? It seems Sunday might work out to be the better/best day/night for the SW Fest with late lunch on Monday as purely optional and extra.
The reason I say this is I also have commitments on Monday that I don't really want to miss esp. my takewando class Monday night. Sunday is better for me. I was kinda planning to fly in, participate, fly out if possible....... unless I get some private party work Saturday night...
So how about on Sunday:
Late afternoon-early evening ... Coffee n Cake (as such) meetup
followed by dinner
followed by whatever else (strip clubs i guess for those inclined)
since it seems most people have something to do Monday (incl. me thus I will most likely be home on the coast by mid-day hopefully!) it will be up to those remaining to organise something post SW fest?

As far as Sunday goes, I could, say, do the coffee/cake thing and show Lys a few vintage shops that I know she's been wanting to see, then head off and hit the books. Then, if Lys really is that much of a masochist/budding lawyer/same difference, she can come to a corporations law lecture on Tuesday and maybe a tutorial afterwards, if I have one and she's keen. Tute times won't be finalised for a few days, but if I have one Tuesday it will be either in corporations or equity and trusts and will be 2 hours long. My other subject, Mental Disorder and The Law (elective which I think non-law students would actually like, covers things like the insanity defence and diminished responsibility) doesn't have tutorials and I already did my fourth subject (also an elective, more medical law stuff) over summer (aside from the giant take home exam I have to do next week).
Lysondra, if you're interested in legal issues related to mental illness, you could come to that class on the Monday instead if you prefer, but it begins in the morning and goes for 3 hours.

Those dates should be fine for me too. I'm in Melbourne and have no uni classes those days so that part is fine, it just depends on how I'm doing for work and money when the time comes around. So, 90% sure I can make it to at least one meeting, even if it's just coffee :)
We could hit up a club in the city afterwards as well maybe? Retro has a pretty fun vibe for a bit of a random night :)

Sounds like a plan. Hope I don't have anything due around that time, but I don't think I will- most of the mid-semester assessment tends to be due by the beginning of May.

Remember, it isn't just Lysondra and you Flickad... there are other people who will be trying to come to this event :P ;)
So far it looks like coffee n cake late afternoon ... dinner early evening ish.. and then open for whatever activities (no pressure)... i'll probably do the coffee n cake and dinner then leave as i will most likely be going monday (to come back home).
Sunday May 25th - First Ever SW Fest within Australia!
New Zealanders and anyone else around at the time is welcome to join the fun!
Melbourne CBD.
Coffee n Cake in the afternoon ... Dinner in the evening ... then it's open whatever else will happen...
We all agree on this generally?
Lysondra

I think you miss the part where Flick and I KNOW that but she's gonna show me around after coffee/before dinner so I can see the shops and anyone can join if they want. :P And then back for dinner and then the whole let's go to x-y-or-z argument.

I wish this conversation you Aussie girls are having had a sound feature I could turn on and listen in with. I sooooo love an Aussie girl accent...best of all accents.
I was coming back from a hockey tournament with a bud yesterday, and he had a GPS on the dash. It talks to you as you are travelling, and the menu allowed a change of voices. One of them was an Australian accented girl.
So that's what I listened to for three hours...."left turn in 3 kilometers".
Our very own personal Sheila Guide. ;D

We wont be able to book this early tho. I can do it closer to the date or im sure they will forget about us.
;D
Hockeybobby i bet my accent is nothing like what u would be expecting. For example whenever there are aussies in a moviethey have a real aussie accent but most people i know dont really sound like that. I always get asked if i am english at work.

Well Lysondra...at this exact precise moment, my favourite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs are beating the bejesus out of their arch friggin' rivals the Ottawa Senators. It's 5 - 0 about half way through the third period. It's about 9:50pm here, game started at 7:30.
I love it when they kick the snot out of those guys. :)

Hahaha, that's because Ottawa sucks. How's the Penguins doin'? I HATE them. Is Jaromir Jagr still playing? I hate him too. Where's Paul Kariya now?
And the new rules suck. I prefer the old rules where a single score meant the game.
