If this rain keeps up, it'll certainly make things very interesting....

I'm rooting for Mickleson, but with everything that's going on I doubt he'll be able to pull it off, regardless of how Bethpage has adopted him as their own. It's his second tourney back, and Amy's having surgery in two weeks.... That's definately gonna affect his mentality. Personally, I know Tiger's good - he grew up in this area, and my BF remembers hearing about him when he was just a kid. I'm not real fond of the guy, but at least he's not a self centered douche like Davis Love III.... Ugh that guy is a piece of work - asked for an autograph, and I was the only one in the area, and he was all, "OMG must get to the green, I don't have time!" um........ yeah you do, and I asked very nicely, so you don't have to be a dick. Of course, Kenny Perry is always amusing to watch, and didn't he do pretty well at Torrey Pines? lol I lived 5 miles away from the course last year, and I have no clue!

Ok, so little threadjack here - how do you guys feel about a dancer that likes and plays golf (ok, is at least learning)

only bad thing is i need to alter my swing to accommodate the twins.

Golf is gay too.

Earl, I played HS and college hockey in the 80's and was teased by teammates for being a golfer as well. Those same guys came to me for lessons a few years later when competitive hockey came to an end for us. It is one of the few sports in which you can remain competitive in your adult years unless your a pro. Plus, after the round or when it rains, you can go to the SC.

Television golf analyst Ben Wright got fired many years ago for making that very comment.

Mickelson - can't stand him ( but I do have sympathy for him right now ). That whole aw- shucks personality grates on me with that goofy grin.

Tiger - we all heard about him as a kid- he was on the Tonight Show when he was a year and a half old.

Any predictions on the US Open this weekend at Bethpage? I have tickets for Friday but am giving them away as I can't spare the time to travel to NY. My money has to go with Tiger ( big surprise ) but it might be a year for a long shot.

If it comes to gambling and its Someone or the Field, you should almost always take the field. The numbers typically support going with the field.

No argument here. We used to ( before Tiger came along ) bet with one guy getting 5 players and the other taking the field. The guy with the field usually won.

Wright did? Damn, I thought I was being original.

And yeah, i forgot tiger was on the tonight show.... This was more country club gossip, he's from this area.... When he started winning more and more tourneys (which was what, 12?) there was a big buzz about it, I guess one of his friends played with him when he was young (the friend was probably in his 30s) and got his ass whooped. Hey, if you're talented, go for it.

And yes, mickelson definitely has the aww shucks thing going.... I think that's why I like him, he's kinda goofy.

Goofed on the Kenny Perry thing, however - got him confused with Boo Weekly.

Kenny Perry is as likeable as Boo Weekly. They both come across as very likeable guys. Perry still runs a public course ( he owns it ) in his hometown and is fast approaching the senior tour.

Mickelson is too goofy for me and does not have a history of being a very smart player. He has done some bonehead things in the closing holes of majors that even an accomplished amateur never would have done ( I'm talking mental errors here ). I do have several friends who play professionally though who say he is alright guy though.

Do as you please but realize that starting late (say after age 25 or so ) will make it hard not to suck at it for the rest of your life. My circle of golfing friends play for the competition, not the cameraderie, weather, or the beer. Given the choice of playing poorly or not playing, we would, like you, choose not to play.

When you are my age you will be playing poorly; at more things then golf. Suck it up.

You gotta keep movin' Earl, or your joints will freeze up, and you'll be no fuckin' good for anything....that's assuming that you're good for something right now though.
