is there a post count limit on this one?
personally, i dont think its fair that some members get to participate and others don't based on post count.
1-having a lower post count does not always equal being a "flake" so much as it just means that they don't post a lot. i know that i personally dont post a lot just because either someone has already said what i'm going to say or i dont think that my posting on certain subjects is warrented or welcome.
2-some members with a low post count have been here a long time compared to those that have a higher post count.
that said, i'm waiting to see what the rules of this exchange are as i would have very very very much liked to have been a part of the valentines day exchange (husband is in iraq, so no v day for me *sad face*) and i'd like to be part of this exchange as well.

^ i dont think necessarily post count should be the deciding factor, because you've been here almost 2 years. but others, who just joined, i dont feel that they should be able to participate. maybe like a "you have to have been here for x months" rule?

worth pointing out that one low post count-er snuck into the cupid exchange somehow, and that was the person who (I think) flaked. So...yeah. I'd say low post counters only IF they have a higher post count member who can vouch for them (ie knows them in person or has participated in an exchange with them).

How low is "low"?
Note that I will not be hurt or pouty or llama-ish if I'm not included this time. I'm only asking for informational purposes.

i know but for the valentines day exchange, my longevity didnt seem to matter, however some other members with low post count were allowed to participate who hadn't been here as long. so i was just asking, and whatever anyone decides thats what i'll go with, respectfully, as i did for the v-day exchange.
i think that a member's repututation should be taken into consideration, including post count, types of posts, longevity, etc. but then again, its not my place to say since whatever is decided effects me.

my sentiments exactly...(except for the hubby being in Irag, although it was just myself and my puppy on V-day)I have been a member for a very long time, but do not always post...especially if I feel that anything I have to add has already been covered.

I think peoples longevity here should count for more than just post count. Hell theres people who have only been here a couple months and have hundreds of posts. Just because they're new and excited about the site doesn't mean that they feel any responsibility to SW (aka NOT flaking), like older members do.
Minor thread jack, but I absolutely love that the "llama" word has been coined here. It cracks me up!

I think it should be a matter of establishment on a case-by-case rule, and if other members can vouch for you IRL (like Joplin and Lunar) then your low post count shouldn't disqualify you.

I like masts idea, b/c that way no ones feelings are hurt, gift recievers or givers.
I think if you want to send someone a super pricey gift then it should be through pm, or you should do it for everyone in the exchange (I vote for the 2nd option!:P)

I'm in!!!
I'm a bit more hesitant to include low post count dudes, (no offence rooster). For one, its not nearly as much fun to buy for dudes, and secondly I don't want a relatively unknown male poster to have my address.

i think it should be case by case as well, because there will be people who might not need to be excluded any other way.

Ok, I agree with limiting on a case-by-case basis - it's true that some new members who post alot will get in, and other older members will always get excluded merely because they don't post so much. To me, that seems unfair.
What was the post count limit before? I don't want to be THE ONE who decides whether some low post count members are included, so how about some sort of vote on each of those cases? Or if someone more 'established' can vouch for you, then you're in.
I don't like having too many set rules for gifting, to me it takes some of the fun out of it. I like having a suggested amount to spend, but if someone really wants to spend more we're not gonna stop them, rule or no rule. Although I do like the suggestion that if you MUST send a really expensive gift, you do so for ALL gifters. HAHA ;D I don't see the point in making a rule that we can ONLY gift the person whose name we drew, but agree you can keep it to PMs if you're gonna gift more than one person.
We established at the beginning of this thread we'd lose the Easter thing and just make it a Secret Bunny thing. It can be spring bunnies, however you want to think of it. And making the date April 1 makes it just a regular fun day - April Fool's ;D
Elfster will only show your mailing address to the person who draws your name. If you're concerned about giving out your home address, you can use a mailbox service or post office box. Post office boxes are cheap.
International: speaking for Americans, USPS Global Priority Mail is only a little more expensive than regular Priority Mail, and it's not difficult to send. Go to the post office, fill out a short form, pay, and that's it. It's easy. However if anyone doesn't want international, please say so and we'll make it happen.
I'm gathering names now, and will PM the Elfster link later on.

Last time the minimum post count was 500, with lower counts getting in if a more established member knows them IRL and could vouch for them. <--This works especially well when a newb works in a club with a more established member so that spanking for flaking can be administered in person. :P Seems pretty fair to me.
Bridgette
02-22-2008, 05:09 PM
And what about older members with low post counts? There are several who've been members 1-3 years but have under 500 posts. There are also some with more than 500 who've only been around a couple months.
I'm inclined to trust someone who's been a member a long time AT LEAST as much as a new member who simply posts alot.
Bridgette
02-22-2008, 05:25 PM
K, I have a list going. So far what I've done is include everyone with a post count of 500+, OR who's been a member at least a year. Also 1 or 2 n00bs who had an established member vouch. Is this ok with everyone? I'm not going to send the link until I get some responses whether this is cool or not, so I can change the list if need be.
Below are people who have expressed interest but have low post count AND are newer members. If anyone can vouch for any of these people, please speak up!

The thing is, it's going to be completely impossible to guarantee that no one flakes. Maybe if we limit it to 3yr+ members with 5000+ posts, but that would exclude too many people.
And Lys, your valentine might have flaked, but you're making out just fine overall so I think you'll survive ;)
We definitely need to say that if you can't be 100% SURE by March 1 that you're going to send a gift, you need to remove yourself from the list! And if you get on the list and flake, you will be publicly outed - there is NO excuse for being irresponsible like that.
Lysondra
