Normally I would say that there's good reason not to want to get married (at least not at that present time) due to bad credit. Someone with bad credit might be at risk for racking up credit card bills for "want" items, or forgetting to mail payments on time, etc. There's also risk of the other spouse's credit gone sour if both spouses sign up for joint accounts and then the other spouse mucks it up, or worse, racks up a huge debt then files for divorce. It's also harder to get things like a house if one spouse has good credit, because even if only the good-credit spouse puts his/her name on the mortgage, that means the mortgage will be reliant only on the one spouse's income...which can be a hindrance. HOWEVER, in this example I think it is hypocritical to reject marriage due to bad credit, but then not allow the person to work a job so she can fix her bad credit. What does he really want the OP to do? What does he think the OP can do??
I am wondering if there is more to it than this. Is there a chance that the OP's boyfriend is afraid of marriage or being locked in?
