well i dont think i have a strong aussie accent. hockeybobby dont hate me for this commebt but i dont really know the diff between an american and canadian accent. i know this annoys people coz we had some canadians in the club and i asked them where in the states they were fron and i got the feeling they werent impressed.

so how do u explain the diff? is it really obvious between americans and canadians?

^ Canadians are offended when you call 'em Americans and Americans are NOT offended when you call them Canadian. So always ask if Canadian.

Not only are there five, but people often sing verse three as verse two!! Just like you did, Vee.

Canadians are like the white bread of the world. We don't have much of anything that could be called an accent...except for people in the maritimes out east. Lysondra is right, we don't wish to be confused with Americans. We like the yanks but we are just different.

I dont think most aussies have an accent. Most aussies dont sound like the late steve irwin did. that's a particularly strong, outback type accent.

EVERYONE has an accent. Just because you don't hear it doesn't mean you don't have one to someone else.

Nope, I'm definitely not Australian.

28. Whatever your linguistic skills, you find yourself able to order takeaway fluently in every Asian language.
I even fail at this. :-[

Not true hb. We can distinguish people with a Toronto accent out here. Canada is a big country with regional accents. But it's not hard to understand how our accent on the whole is similar to an American accent considering how much American media is available to us.

Even easier is to just ask "So.. where does your accent come from?" :) Works for ANYONE with ANY accent :) and no one gets offended...

except me when someone, who is plainly australian, asks me where my accents comes from... I always look at them confused.

Guess I have a slight little left over american in my accent from way back in 1993.

Oh we most certainly do have one.. and like the US different parts of Australia will even have their own unique accents. When I was in America way back in 1993, it stood out like a sore thumb. :)

Even now I will hear it here and there.

The canadians aren't as intense with their Rrrrrs as most american accents, and they have that thing where "out" sounds like "ooot" kind of like you can pick a NZ accent with the "fush and chups" lol. Watch a bit of South Park.

haha yeah i watch south park you canadians say aboot instead of about right. im a kiwi and when i was in america some people couldnt understand me, apparently i have a really strong kiwi accent, i was even asked how long i had been learning english! but i couldnt understand people in texas, vegas was fine but that texan drawl was tricky. oh and for anyone that doesn't know we do speak english in new zealand and also maori ( really badly for most of us!)

Canadians say Eh? (ay) alot too. As in: It's a beautiful day, Eh? Take off eh. Another good spoof of Canadians is the skit "The Great White North" on the old Second City TV shows. Rick Moranis and another guy played Bob & Doug McKenzie...2 stereotypical canucks with beers and toques on their heads, cooking back bacon and talking about various topics of interest to, or lampooning Canadians. Here's a video you'll love: Bob & Doug (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh4k3L0WrEE)

there's a bunch of other episodes there too.

^^^The Canadian guy I dated recently said "Eh" at the end of almost every sentance. I found it quite off putting at first. It kept giving me the impression that someone had snuck up behind me and he was addressing them, lol!

*WAAAAHHH*

I've been to Sydney twice. It was worth the 24 hours from airport to airport both times. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. No, less. My favourite club in Sydney was Home. People were awesome.... guys talked to me and looked me in the eye, and didn't expect anything but friendship from the short, busty American in a revealing top. :D

It was also very odd for me to feel so comfortable literally on the other side of the planet from my own place. My own bed in my own apartment is usually the only place I can actually sleep. Anywhere else makes me uncomfortable. In Sydney, I'd found my second "home." Almost didn't get on the plane to head back at the end of the second trip.. but my furballs were counting on me.

^ Yeah, I don't know that many people in Melbourne who put 'hey' on the end of things.

I don't know if this is an Australian thing but I hate when people finish with 'but' on the end of what they are saying. Like, 'that is so true but'.
