Maybe we should start a "How to not be a thread-killer" thread.

Step 1. Be more assertive in your posts. (Though the thought of Bridgette being more assertive is a bit scary ::))

Haha! This internet shit is trivial, bickering about DJs and such an idle sport.

I have seen the Wrath of Bridgette in real life. It was beautiful to behold--or rather hear (emanating from the cell phone--that sweet voice can be transformed, lol!). I laughed but it was in sheer amazement, make no mistake about it--I was impressed and charmed at the same time. Since she was mad at me and I was wrong, I apologized as soon as the cab brought me back to her.

One of my favorite B stories, though the PizzaHo episode was a bit better.

You know, I think I tend to avoid confrontational posts. Unless it is a fundamental type thing, a matter of principle. I would be more likely, like X said to look for some kind of "lets all be friends" response. And lets face it, after the question has been answered 20 or 30 different ways, and then there's been the back and forth of defending positions for a while...if someone comes along and throws some nice in the mix, that could spoil it. Usually I'd rather run away than hurt someones feelings.

The really long threads are the sort of "stream of consciousness" ones where it's just: well what do you have to say today kind of thing, or the ones where every single person can contribute with their unique preference.

Juggernutz, your screen name is a classic ;D

Is stating your opinion "confrontational" or controversial? Is contributing to the thread only good when you're the first one to say something? Could there be a motivation for waiting for a thread to mature before joining in?

I know I've said controversial things. I know, too, that I've held back just to prevent a flare up. But if I have something to contribute, good or bad, I'm going to say it more often than not. And I learn things from joining in, but not from dominating, the discussion. Even when people disagree with me.

Well, I'm definitely not going to post now, cuz that would just be tempting fate a little too much. Someone else is going to take the rap for killing this one for sure.
I'm not stupid you know.
hb

LOL, this thread reminds me of the Seinfield car dealership episode where Kramer takes a car for a test drive and they see how much farther they can go with the gas needle below E.

Maybe you should consider birthing a thread every time you kill one to maintain balance in the world.

Dude you have yet to surpass me in the act of thread killing. Ask Mast, I've killed more threads than I care to remember, just like users that call me... muhawhaha!! lol

Ok cherry, now that there^^^ is bad thread killer technique. I mean, you've got a letter or a word or something missing there man. That's just gonna generate a bunch of WTF?s and stuff instead of quietly putting the thread to sleep. Makes me kind of doubt your claim of killing so many threads.

But having said that, you've got the johnny-come-lately part down cold ;D

So it's like a contest now... whoever posts last in this thread gets a crown or a smokey-the-bear-like Diploma, "World's Best Thread Killer".

In that case, at the moment I press the submit button, I am the new top contender for the prize.

I'm a threadkiller, too. I tell myself it's because I get into threads too late. Or because I sum everything up so pithily that there's nothing left to say. Or because my attempts at humor are too scary. Dunno. :-\

Grace, I've had my attempts at humour backfire so often, that I've become more careful with it now. It's tricky business. I've noticed that when you don't put a smiley face in you will get a bunch of people misunderstanding.

I guess it's because our own face isn't there to provide a clue/cue?

I think we should all take pride in our threAd killing capabilties. I mean killing a thread is a skill, right? Like pole vaulting or something, taking years of practice and honing.

Or maybe some of us may be a little paranoid...

Oh and I found a lunarobverse icon :reporter: WHy no lapaholic icon :(

I'm flattered that there are more than one hat-related smilies!

Did someone already point out that this thread, this thread about killing threads, is never going to be, itself, killed? And if someone did, does it matter that I'm pointing it out again? hockeybobby will forever be known for two things: worshiping Jenny, and creating the only thread to rival the Random Thread.

There is something i dont like about the random thread. I dont know what, as i have posted in it myself but something about seeing it all the times shits me LOL.

I am so glad it is not just me that feels like this. (sorry just entered thread have been away for a few days, see no one even noticed lol) Is it also the same as when you contribute to threads and your posts get completely overlooked? I get that feeling quite alot too, so much so I did wonder if everyone had put me on ignore. Then I realized I wouldn't ever get a response so now I don't know oh crap! Lol.

Im still working on it HB, but I can tell you that in a little over a year since I joined, I have participated in 372 threads. In 372 threads I was the last poster in 27 of them Soooooo that means that I kill approx. 7.25% of the threads I take part in;D

Aw jeez kitty...your post showed up while I was responding to a post way up there. I had to get a coffee and whatnot, and while I was composing, like 5 more show up. Your contributions are always appreciated.

I've seen threads were the OP actually makes a response to every response. It's like they do it to be polite and thank the person for their input and acknowledge them. That kind of thing bugs some people I've noticed, maybe just because of the sheer volume of posts they now have to wade through that don't say much.

Anyway...Hi kitty ;D

Yeah, the random thread scares me too. To me, its impossible to keep up with! Also, there are members that will pop up in other threads occasionally with really high post counts who joined recently and I won't quite know who they are but then I'll realize its because they've been post-whoring it up in the random thread! Maybe I should make more of an effort! :duck:

I should learn to keep up! :lurk:

Bridgette
03-05-2008, 07:19 AM
Bridgette, you're a Thread Thriller, people just want to reply to you. ;D I can't remember any threads you were the last poster on.Well I have been here for almost 6 years compared to your 1 ;) I remember being the last poster on threads many times, often going back to see if anyone had responded to something I'd said only to see that no one ever did.

And I remember several times being the last poster in some heated threads that got locked, and I always felt like the bad girl in those :D

As for your comment that the thought of me being more assertive is scary: why is someone (a chic) who simply says what she thinks "scary"?

It's because women menstruate, Bridgette. All that bleeding from the crotch we do is wildly intimidating to guys; we have to tone down the rest of the behaviour so they don't just run away at the sight of us.

Now you can see that I've never worried about being a threadkiller. I'll just throw menstruation in with total impunity.

Djoser
03-05-2008, 07:59 AM
LOL! Once again I have to disagree, though your post is funny as hell--and on point. Most guys are chickenshits with the menstruation thing.

But not all guys are so spineless as to fear a little blood. Women are supposed to bleed, for chrissakes.

I have no doubt you can slaughter threads with the best of us, but you'll have to do better than that, haha!

Djoser

Eh, not to run down your impressive ability to rip the guts out of even the most powerful and intimidating threads, being last in a locked thread is pretty much a matter of timing.

As for your comment that the thought of me being more assertive is scary: why is someone (a chic) who simply says what she thinks "scary"?

Not scary--immensely attractive. But being raised by an assertive woman, and by an assertive man who loved her, I can react in no other way. If a woman is disrespectful, I will show equal lack of regard, but that's different.

The thread had to be inactive for 3 days to be considered and I had to see a name more then 3 times to be included. Im sure I missed some, but it was only for fun..... Can you tell how slow we are at work?

I thread kill sometimes.

It makes me feel self-conscious when I do it though.

But then I remember: Threads deserve to die!

Otherwise we would all be talking about the same thing over and over.

With no end in sight.

Still though, there is a little corner of my guilty conscience reserved just for all those sad little dead threads.

Do you think there are thread ghosts?

Also here is a link to a good image for all you thread killers out there: http://homepage.mac.com/omegaosx/.Pictures/dead_thread.jpg

What about the 'Instant Death' threads. A kind of thread suicide. You start a thread and spend a lot of time creating an essay about something you think is funny or intriguing or important, and no one responds.

Should these count? I think not...
