i think it's a different kind of hustle. a stripper can get away with talking to 2-3 customers in a night and still make plenty of money. i struggled with waiting, but bartending was easy and non-degrading. my barback or customers did any heavy lifting needed.
the career waiters i know overwhelmingly have a very different attitude about waiting than what's been described here. they are much more cavalier and will tell a customer they don't need their little tip.
they get tipped more (sometimes WAY more), don't get fired and do very well, earning hundreds a day for decades if they so desire. it's just a different kind of hustle, and also one that rewards a flip attitude if one can pull it off.
none of this applies to waitressing in SCs, though. the only people i ever saw make money waitressing in SCs were grizzled old women who tried to behave as if they were madams regarding the girls to get tips.
