Not really in my opinion. I've had too many of the "psychonauts" turn violent/abusive but refuse to acknowledge it. The defense is always "oh I'm not an addict!" or "it's mind expanding!". And I've had them steal and lie, while still being smug as shit about how they're so much more "enlightened". Learned my lesson, I stay away from people who use drugs as a "hobby".

Um... fentanyl is not a 'street drug'. I have never heard of a junkie touching that shit. Most of them are borderline afraid of it because it's so powerful. I've never heard of it even offered for sale. I had it for a medical procedure and it's no joke. You are right about fentanyl. But it has been mixed with heroin locally according to public health authorities in many recent cases. So.....picking up junk on the street, you just don't know what has been mixed and in what proportion. You are at the mercy of ignorant criminals whose only goal is to make money and not get picked up by LE or killed by their supplier.
I seriously beg to differ. Yes a lot of not-so-bright people do drugs. Most of the people I know that got into them had IQs on the very high end & at least a couple years of college. Tortured genius thing, if you will. Honestly, a lot of them were bored & disillusioned with the world. Some drugs are good for 'spiritual quests' and some of the people were going down that road.
Original question: I don't know about 'good' reasons by anyone else's standpoint, but I can see it being amusing. Depending on the drug, it's the same as "Hey let's get drunk". That's been going on for thousands of years and is socially acceptable though ::) If they're not driving around while fucked up or stealing your money to buy it, who cares?
Smart people doing stupid things, or stupid people doing stupid things - what does it matter in the end?
Recreation or self-numbing - there are safer and better ways to do each.

Considering starting drugs is one of my biggest life regrets and I'm still dealing w the consequences over ten years later, I'm gunna go with *in general* NO. Unless you're talking about pot or something. But then I agree w Gabor mate in that drugs do not cause addiction but it's a shitty thing to get addicted to and if you get a bad dose you can die the first time

That depends on each individual. What your hard limits are. If you get addicted easily it isn't for you.
I'm one of the 'lucky' ones.
I can't get addicted to anything pretty much. I've tried most common party drugs (coke etc) but only once in a blue moon during an event. Not regularly.
Personally, I'll never inject anything. Somethings I'll never touch.
I'll probably do x or molly maybe 2x in an entire year at a rave/music festival but other than that. No.
Everyone is different. It's not for everyone. The first time I tried it was at a big private party event with 2 friends almost 10 years ago at 17. Never spiraled. Never gotten too high to defend myself or look after others. Finished college just fine. Started a business just fine. Mental health just fine. Personal relationships just fine.
Not everyone is as lucky.
