Exaggeration only weakens a case. His dad's worth five hundred million dollars. I doubt he dipped into the public coffers for five grand.

No need to go beyond just the facts here if you want to slam him.

I said "they" not "him." I was referring to the investigation, which they (the government) spent my tax dollars on. I've no idea how much, but I'm willing to bet it was far more than $5,000.

I've never seen jester214 admit he was wrong, though... ;D

I do, occasionally. I just try and make it hard to see :P

Atleast they were investigating a real crime... I can only wonder how much they've spent on the Clemens fiasco or on baseball steroid use in general.

My bad.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of prosecuting prostitution, except in cases where there is abuse, human trafficking, etc. This didn't seem like such a case. However it was a rather large operation with revenues in the millions if the DA is correct, so Spitzer might just be collateral damage. Although ya gotta wonder if he pissed the wrong person off...

Because it's a crime, regardless of if it's correct or not. In other cases I might agree with you to an extent, but this guy has a responsibility due to his position to follow the law.

Nice to see all the minute details about our federal law enforcement types are protecting us' - likely more fun than catching terrorists that want to kill us. The sad part is that they are focusing on the interstate communications and travel, not once considering that it is dumb law to begin with.

Thats the thing! He is going to face MAJOR scrutiny as opposed to the random John that usually receives a slap on the wrist.

In prostitution cases, the managers and prostitutes usually bear the brunt of the legal consequences. In this case a John will... oh happy day.

Of course, this is all schadenfreude but it is also ironic to the N-th degree.

My two cents? Legalize it!

Well, normally I do not take pleasure from others misfortune but in his case, I'll make an exception. When one makes a career out of being the great crusader against corruption, it's damn stupid to be engaged in corruption yourself. Sorry, I just hate hypocrites.

Guy should have just made a discreet trip to Nevada. Sounds like he could have afforded it.

Isn't that the requisite Grimace of Remorse assumed by all politicians when caught in a scandal?

It is, and you have the obligatory "supporting" wife standing next to him...

At the very least he should have gotten a mistress like Giuliani and many others have, instead of outsourcing the poon.

Indeed...when you're that visible, why would you take such foolish risks?

Having a piece on the side looks much different than the political hypocrisy and the potential abuse of public funds.

I'm not saying I'm better than Spitzer, just that I know how the allure, the power, the addictive quality of pussy can completely warp my sense of reality on occasion. And like GI Joe said, knowing is half the battle.

I read about Kristen: five-five, 105, very pretty, brunette. Flashbacks of my ATF freak EXACTLY. Slender thighs and legs, 20, totally addictive and addicted. I'd give her $200 on her days off, and she could leave whenever she wanted. She kept score with Sharpie lines on her upper left arm.

Eliot got caught moving large sums of money to one location. I never had to max out my ATM limit. I'm not saying I'm better or worse than Spitzer, just that his disaster has given my memories an incredible danger rush. :O

Think about it. If you can get it free (in dollars, forget emotional grief) and you can pay $5K, why would $200/hr not be a price point somewhere to the right of friend with benefits? I call it the fun friend category, but that's just me. :)

You're trick minded, so of course that sounds like a good idea to you Sporty.

To pay for pussy is to admit defeat.

Yeah, I've turned down a friend with benefits offer or two because I have a Benjamin minimum.

No, it means you don't have any responsibility to listen to her whining.

what more can be said on this subject ...

- as governor, Spitzer took an oath to uphold the law - and interstate transportation of prostitutes is currently against federal law regardless of whether or not a majority of people think it should be or not.

- Spitzer specifically campaigned on the anti-republican 'culture of corruption' plank which was a mainstay of many 2006 election races. Spitzer also incorporated sex based prosecutions during his successful stint as NY Attorney General (both busting escort services and also using potential sex crime charges against high profile defendants he couldn't touch with conventional charges). Thus Spitzer's bust exposes the ultimate in hypocrisy.

- high end strip clubs and escort services, with or without bleedover from the one business to the other business, have been a mainstay of the Manhattan mega-rich for decades. However, until now, nationwide mainstream media and New York media (for the most part) has turned a blind eye.

- Spitzer is already under 'TrooperGate' investigation for alleged misuse of his office to entrap NY's most prominent republican, Joe Bruno.

- NY republican legislators are ALL OVER democrat Shel Silver to set impeachment proceedings into motion if Spitzer doesn't resign within 48 hours.

bottom line is that with an election coming up, and with all of the national media attention Spitzer is drawing, unless the democrats want to automatically chuck 2008 election victories they will pressure the hell out of Spitzer to resign and remove this issue from an ongoing media spotlight,

second bottom line is that NYC strip clubs and escort services are now going to draw a HUGE amount of attention from both federal and state investigators.

Rumor, as well as my guess, has it that Bruno used Republican influence to get te FBI after his nemesis, Spitzer. Word is that they were already after the said escort agency.
