also (on the bugs) i'm ok with any of the big ridiculous bugs we have here. the ones i am NOT ok with are all the fucking poisonous spiders. there are brown recluse spiders in almost everyones shed or garage. oh and, there are black widow webs in every nook of my damned yard. i can tell as soon as it's getting close to terminex-spray time again because the webs start popping up everywhere.

so.. big flying bugs.. not such a big deal

poisonous spiders, wasps, fire ants, and bees (im deathly allergic to the last three) can go to HELL.

I don't like bugs chasing me. I remember being in my hotel room in Orlando.... R gets quiet and nervous looking and I ask him "What is it?"

"I didn't want to tell you, but a big black roach just crawled under the nightstand. I scared even ME".

I went white and jumped on the bed and started bawling. I made the hotel change my room to a whole new floor and check the new room....

And that was a brand new nice hotel.

Well I'm not sure if guys opinions are wanted on this thread but I'll give it anyway.I've lived in SE Flo for about 10 years now (Jersey transplant) At first I loved it and I still do like the weather.Without getting into details I am getting tired of some of the other stuff perviously mentioned.
I've visted the west coast (Tampa area) a few times and really liked it the short time I was there. I didn't care for Clearwater or St Pete's but liked the places just south of Clearwater and Tampa. I've thought about moving there and since my lease is up soon starting to consider it again.
As for SC's I liked them at first and maybe it was just the places I went but they were very low contact. This mite sound strange but the very high contact dances made me uncmfortable. When I first moved here I became somwhat of reg, at 1 of the places.I ended dating one of the dancers, became OTC friends with a handful of other dancers,1 of the bartenders and 1 of the DJ's.So that's could be why the high contact places made me uncomfortable, or it could be b/c in NJ and NY, at least when I lived there there was no touching and that's what I was used to..However I don't think part of strippers job description is to be groped and grabbed all day.

I live in Central FL. Been out of Dancing for about 2 years, but want to work every now and then. I dont want to do extras. Thats what I hate about it. I couldn't put my lips on nasty stinky men. Now I need the money to finish school. Miami sucks. Orlando is drug infested. I don't know where to go. Or how to get in to a club if only for a day or weekend. HELP ME

Start your own thread. ;)

For one it's considered rude to derail a thread asking for help.

Two most people won't even SEE your post asking for help in a thread like this.

^^ yep thats the one...<<shudder>>.

I almost cried watching his little eyes go out...

Scary. Florida has more than it's share of terrifying bugs. My brother was bit by something that caused a huge welt that he had to have cut out! Spider I suppose?

Heeeeey PP, we have lightening! Maybe not the midwesty purple right near your head sort, but it's there!

Okay, I was once caught in a Waffle House for 5 hours during a huge hail/tornado/lightening/wrath of god storm somewhere in the sticks north of Ft. Lauderdale. That was scary. Fl wins for weather.

i don't think it's in the job description either, but my opinion seems to be the unpopular one with tamponians. most guys are like "why even go if you can't...etc..etc"

I didn't go to any SC's in Tampa. When I talked about SC's it was the SE and the extremely high contact turned me off to SC's period. It's still been about 3 years since I've been in one.

I meant I liked Tampa in general when I was there. But everyone knows visting can be differnt than living somewhere that's why I go back and forth over moving there.

i liked how you could actually swim in the gulf because the water was warm enough (i visited sarasota for a few days).

other than that and the fact that i had some friends there, there doesn't seem to be much to florida, especially the drivers (got into a car accident on 75 north and it held up traffic for a half hour). there are no median barriers on the freeway! ack!

eh, it's not bad if you're going to live in this general part of the US. i mean, the music and arts scene here is fairly decent compared to most places around, if that sort of thing is important to you.

i would rather live in tampa than anywhere else in florida, for sure.
well, besides maybe right outside of tampa in some of the nicer parts of st pete.

since i just ranted for 1/2 a day, i will add something positive....

i would miss the storms. i didn't realize how cool our thunder/lightning storms were till i visited other states. tampa (the city i live in) is the lightning capitol of north america.

i never "got that" till i saw what people up north call "lightning"

pffffffft. pussies. :P

Most definitely. When I first moved down here after high school, I lived with my folks on a house on a golf course. I used to sitting on the "lanai" (we don't have porches in Pinellas) and watching the lightning flash 50 times a minute. Definitely gives you an appreciation for the beauty and power of nature.

The tampa area is a good amalgamation of all of the other parts of Florida put together. We've got good 'ol boys, senior citizens, hispanic immigrants, native americans, young professionals, and a nice-sized counter-culture. Considering I grew up 10 miles outside DC, I laugh at the "rising crime rate". The economy sucks right now, mostly due to the fucked-up housing market causing property tax rates to soar, but I've been in my little condo since '97, and it's perfect for a single male.

In a couple years, I'll have the opportunity to relocate to BFE Tennessee with my new company, or stay here. I don't see any reason to move at the moment.

I think these places are south of Clearwater but I'm not sure since I get turned around when I'm there.I'm used to the big body of water beingto the east not the west.Anyway I remember looking at places in Dunedin,Largo , Palm Harbor, on top of Tampa. This time I'm considering Sarasota too.I want to go back to school and there's 2 schools over there that specialize in what I want.Plus the cost of living is so much cheaper over there

Oh...and the creepy spiders with the crab shells. They infest my yard..what the hell are THOSE things?? Wierd hard multi colored shells!!! WTF?? Only in Fl....I'd honestly rather have crocs and gators in my yard then some of these bugs. And getting the house and yard sprayed on a reg basis helps..but doesnt erase them They FIGHT BACK!!!!

I've never had that many problems with bugs. Maybe cause I stay in a high rise instead of a house. My biggest problems are caused by the ignorant immigrants refusing to learn english and bringing their 3rd world country trash with them. But oh wait, that's what the entire South Florida is based upon. Or Miami, at least.

Dunedin is north of Clearwater, and a great area for young homeowners. My buddy bought a lot of house for not-too-much money a few years ago. Palm Harbor is north of Dunedin and Clearwater and also a nice area with homes ranging from the affordable to the extravagant. Both are in the 'better' areas of Pinellas county, and honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with North Pinellas. It's not as cosmopolitan as Tampa itself, and there are a lot of old people, but the neighborhoods tend to be pretty quiet.

Both are a bit far from Sarasota if you're looking to commute to school. St. Petersburg College, with campuses all over Pinellas county has added a few 4-year degree programs in the last few years, as well as having a ton of Associates programs designed to prepare you for a 4-year Florida school. There's also a ton of professional/vocational/technical schools in the area.

I know what you mean. I love storms, we hardly get anything up here. Although a few days ago there was a brief little lightning storm and it kept making the sky green. I was only in Florida for a week years ago and I don't even remember if it stormed. Probably not. :(

The best storms I ever saw were in Austria.

The further from the ocean you get the more bugs.....BIG bugs.:'(

Also newer construction like new apartment complexes and homes built within the last 15 maybe 20 years are insulated better and keep the scary bugs away.

I also live in a high rise so thankfully I don't deal with many if any bugs...

Funny you should mention this subject, Candice, because I'm not all too certain I would cruising this website if I did not indeed hate SWF! I retired fron dancing in 2001, before I moved here...thinking that I would never again need to run around naked in bars for cash, but here I am, broke in SWF, and I'm kind of considering it again. I have a question for Florida ladies. What is the average age for a dancer in SWF? I ask this because there seem to be an awful lot of juice bars....Juice bars that hire a lot of 18-year-old girls. Being of the 30-something crowd, this is a little disconcerting to me! What are your thoughts gals?

I am a natural born Floridian.
I was born in Broward County, Florida, at Holy Cross hospital in Ft. Lauderdale.
I used to love my home. The beach, the weather, the boating, the food, everything. It's where I was born, and grew up, and all I can say now is that my past memories of there are good. Present day reality of the place though, not so good. Things are just different there now. I can't exlpain it, it's just something you feel and have to experience yourself being from there.
Someway, somehow, though....I grew to HATE the place. Kinda sad, hating your home and all.
Everyone that I know, right down to my own father, has moved out of south Florida. I have no one left there to speak of.
It's pretty much a third world country now, and not to mention as expensive to live in as southern California but not worth it at all.
When me and my husband first met, we stayed there for 6 months cause I had a job connection for him. He was so miserable, there were times I thought he was going to jump a plane and leave me.
His only thoughts now when asked about his Florida experience are "FUCK that place. I never want to go there again"
SO sad. It's so fucking beautiful down there. The beaches, the water, the keys.....so awesome.
Too bad the population now is 75% Hatian and 25% asshole.

I love Florida. I'm from here and it's a great place to live. HOWEVER....

It's starting to become less and less so, ESPECIALLY south Florida (for the uninitiated, South Florida is a colloquial term that refers to the geographic region that encompasses Miami, Ft Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach). The state used to be a cheap place to live and it wasn't crowded. Now the place is overrun with northerners and immigrants from all different places...and while I appreciate diversity as much as the next guy, it's led to a bad situation in Florida where rudeness is becoming common, no one looks out for anyone but themselves....also this overcrowding makes it hard to do simple things like get around...do things (beach, restaurant, parks, boating...always crowded and polluted).

When I was growing up in Florida, it damn near a paradise (the humid summers were the only negative). I'd have never dreamed of moving away. Now...I could see myself going elsewhere, especially if this trend continues.

The rudeness was definately a big factor in my exodus from Ft.Lauderdale. I mean there are fucked up people anywhere you go, but the rude nasty people in south Florda are a breed of their own. The road rage is also ten times worse than anywhere I've ever lived as well. People being nasty to each other at the grocery store, the mall, the gas station, even the beach! The negative energy down there is pretty thick in the air.

When my dad sold his boat, I knew something was up. My father has never been boat-less. I remember coming down to visit when I lived up in Atlanta, going down to the docks and seeing the empty boat slip...it was weird.
My dad pretty much said he couldn't enjoy boating anymore because of the crowding and pollution you mentioned above.
It was a sad day. Several years later, he also sold all the property we had down there and high-tailed it.

I just moved to the Broward county region and yes, people are obnoxious down here. Even going to the grocery store is a pain in my ass because a bunch of shoppers and drivers are rude and I don't care what time it is, there are always long lines. Although, I do like the fact that there are so many businesses and shops close by me. In Maryland, I only had one mall that was 15 minutes away and the Walmart was a good 40 minutes. Now I have 5 Walmarts near me and like 10 different grocery stores. I don't have to travel far.

I have to agree here that Florida is not for me. I can't stand it. I moved here because of my bf wanted to move here for a year and now its been two years. I agree with others that dislike FL for some of the same reasons. Especailly being in Central FL, (Orlando)! The heat is unbearable, I mean being from Chicago, I would get a cold by a breeze from the lake in the summer time, but down here, I would long for being back in Chicago's winter months! Some enjoy the night life here but I don't see it, being from Chicago and all, its like being way behind in interior and style and such. The downtown is simply awful. Orlando looks so dirty to me! Its really nothing to do. I don't know, I guess I am just a big city girl, but lots of New Yorkers retire down here from the big city hustle, but most of them are just plain rude! I am like, "didn't this state use to be apart of the southern charm?" All the charm is gone. The road rage is scary as hell. People don't care to hit and run down here. I also hate when people tell me I need to learn spainish. I let them know this is America, I will be just fine. Its pisses me off more so in the SC. I am not going to learn spainish to get a dance. I would dance an hour and an half away from Orlando too because the clubs are simply bad like 3ft. ceilings bad with 1960's interior. LOL, I have been laughing ever since I walked in and walked right back out. Plus, I have noticed a little of this in other cities, but Orlando seems so segrated, I mean housing communties are gated or hidden down a street while the ghetto or just don't care idiots that will push shopping carts all the way home and leave on the sidewalk, are outside the gate.

I don't like S. FL either, its good to visit but its so mashed together. Ugh. I couldn't live there uless I had money to live directly on the beach. Even there can be messy with tourists and all. I like to visit the keys, but I couldn't unless, again, I can live directly on an island on the water.

My dream is to build a home around the water in a warm climate, but I don't where because it seems all the desirable places are overrun with idiots, people that don't care about the area, (hate litters) or just overpriced. I will find some place with water.

I've lived in Florida my whole life. But yeah, I own maybe two jackets and use them for two weeks out of the year, if I'm lucky. I'd freaking love to own some boots!! My hair is also only straight those two weeks of the year... Never seen snow. There are definitely a huge amount of ahem ethnic people for sure. I hate having to shower three times a day during the summer... The way people drive here is becoming worse and worse.

But oh, the beach and the theme parks... the jew towns like Boca Raton... the lack of hassle going to an in-state college... it keeps me here. For now, anyway.

Florida sucks, except there's no winter.

I have never seen so many stupid people in one state. Rednecks, cheesy macho dudes, trailer trash, wannabe gangbangers, old people, immigrants who won't speak English.

The Keys aren't really like being in Florida, or really the USA. So I like it here. Somehow the language thing doesn't bother me at all here. Plus the clubs are low contact.

I live within a couple hours of Miami, and have never been there. Not really interested either, though I suppose I might go someday.

What has always amused/disgusted me, depending on my mood, are these pathetic fucks abounding in stripclubs who insist on inflating their wealth. Like, they have a Porsche, but that's not good enough, they have to tell you they have a fleet of expensive sportscars. They have a mansion, but that's not good enough, they have to have 4-5 of them.

What's funny is, some of the dancers who ought to know a bullshit artist--even if he is wearing a genuine Rolex--will sometimes fall for this shit, and suck up to a bullshitter, usually getting taken for some kind of pathetic hustle in the process.

The only thing I don't like about the Keys is no one ever dresses up here. Of course it's way too hot in the summer anyway, but even in the winter they don't. I might start doing it next winter regardless, I did that all the time in daytona where noone dresses up either.
