Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest you were wearing your engagement on your sleeve. I'm just highlighting that there is a potential downside to being upfront/honest about everything.

I am not coming up to customers and saying "OH, by the way, I'm engaged" or anything of the sort. If they ask if I have a boyfriend, I say yes.

But a significant percentage of customer *don't* want to hear that a dancer has an SO. It either:

(a) ruins whatever fantasy they have about the dancer

or

(b) puts them off buying dances because they realise their hopes OTC are less likely to come true (and hopes are all they'll probably remain anyway).

So being too honest can impact on a dancers earnings.

Phil.

Absolutely. I don't appear to be single, a free spirit just dying to get laid. Because I'm not. I don't think any guy has ever turned down a dance from me because he asked if I was single and I'm not, but several have complimented me on my honesty.

Honestly... if a customer wants to think I am single, he shouldn't ask if I am or not. I don't ask customers about a tan line on their left hand ring finger, nor do I ask if I see a ring if they're married. Because I simply don't want to know. I'd rather assume that they're not and play along!

Well, you should of course do what you feel comfortable with.

Separately from the specific question of dancer SOs, I think customers who say, "I'd always rather have a dancer be honest with me" either have very thick skins or are exceptional customers.

I've created a hybrid of myself. A little truth and a few lies. But, I keep my story consistent so I don't have to recall what I told each customer. Those I build a relationship with over time, will get to know a little more about me, but that's far a few between. I prefer the anonymity and I think it lends to the "fantasy girl" appeal.

I've found that most dancers have "work" personalities, lives, etc. It hadn't occurred to me to lie about myself when I started dancing, and so for the 8 years off and on (mostly on!) I've danced, honesty has been my policy. It also makes it easier, as I don't have to remember what I've been telling people. /:O

For safety reasons, I'll obviously not get too detailed about some things. Many customers have told me that they love, love, LOVE my honesty.

What do you think? Which do you prefer?

I admire honesty(in all people), and I only go to the club for dances. If I wanted a pretend gf I would find an escort.
I have had some interesting conversations with dancers, but I never talk to a dancer who I feel is dishonest. I don't ask about their personal life other than things like kids and how long they plan to dance, so I guess it makes it easy for them to not lie.
