I found it was impossible NOT to go over the limit, personally.

But I can still see why some are uncomfortable when a few people are getting gifts worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars and the rest are getting $30-$50 gifts. That's why I can't really pick a side either way!!! I see all angles, damn it!

I vote we just accept that this will always be an issue to some people and we will never agree on it!

I think the rule is 500 posts or someone to vouch for them. Rooster I think got special dispensation because it was put up to a private vote.

the 112 post count person should have enough time probably between now and the July exchange though to get their posts up.

but being a member for 3+ yrs is good enough for me. If we have to, we'll do what B did next time, so we can vote on it.

not all of us are post whores! lol! But s lot of people read everyday anyhow.

yeah, seriously-- what is that thing? I couldn't tell if target was selling it as a bunny with all the other easter goods, or if it was a hamster, or sheep (that's a new one by me.)

All I know is it's slightly teletubby-ish, and definitely a perverse little twist.
It looks like a sheep to me...whatever it is its cute and I like it!

true. I didn't check how long she'd been a member. she would have to have one rockin' list letting us know what type of person she is. it takes a lot of fun out of it if you have to guess about a total stranger.

ya, It's really tough to buy for someone with little posted and with a paltry list.

I think the entire exchange thing is a bunch of bullshit and allows money trolls to think they are special and destroy the integrity of a true exchange. It should be stopped.

I can't tell if this quote is serious or in jest. :-\

Yeay! I'm up for another exchange. June is good for me, tho I just wanna double check, when you say June 1st is that the date to aim for the packeage to arrive on? Its just that the chances are I'm posting overseas so it takes a bit longer, (unless I happen to be bunny to some else in the UK, it could happen but the chances are slim.) :) I can't wait for the next exchange, yeay!

I hope that its in jest but unfortunatly I think its serious.

all packages need to be shipped on or before June first.Idealy, it'd be nice if everything was shipped 5 days before for US, and 10 days before for international. It'd be nice of you to PM me or make a post to your recipients elfster list if for some reason you have to ship later then that. This way, when the reveals thread starts on June 1st, most people have recieved :D

Yeah.

It only becomes a problem when people go into it expecting too much. If you sign up and think that you're going to make out like a bandit, then you're doing it for the wrong reasons.

Maybe we need a super low dollar amount exchange (or a homemade exchange) to learn that it's the thought that counts. Not the $$$. :-\

I think its great that some people go over the limit, the limit we had on the last one was fine, its not really about how much you spend but the thought that goes into it. If someones going into the exchange for the goodies they want to receive then they're in it for the wrong reasons.

Btw, Lola Rose, thanks for offering to organise the next exchange, I think you'll do a great job.

That's why it was only an afterthought. Not everyone does crafts and sometimes the materials are just as expensive as any other gift.

Lola Rose

I personally think 30$ is kinda low when you include shipping, especially b/c we have international members.

there's no real way to please everyone.

so... I need 3 more votes to get an exchange started!!!! :D

Lola Rose
03-31-2008, 04:52 PM
also- I hope everyone who signs up is doing this for the fun of giving and recieving.

Lola Rose
03-31-2008, 04:54 PM
also, if you cannot commit to being on SW to say you recieved your gift, this isn't the exchange for you. The reveal part is a huge bit of the fun, and it's dasappointing to have your person never even say they got it.

Polekitten
03-31-2008, 04:54 PM
Yeah shipping wasn't that expensive but if I'd stayed stictly to the budget I couldn't have got my bunny such a good pressie, tbh, with the exchange rate the way it is, my shipping cost was nearly the whole budget.

I really do think tho that the limit is not important, you can stick to it or go over it, I don't think it matters how much you spend, its really the thought that goes into it.

ya, but it's happened in previous exchanges too.

Let's just remember, though, that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances. I, for instance, was hospitalized and, therefore, couldn't post about what I had received. I know that's not always the case, of course, but let's not get a lynching mob together just yet!!

I vote Friday 13th !!!!!

Thus I voted other.

Plus the Summer Fun one is only applicable to the NORTHERN hemisphere. Gosh people I would have thought you would have realised by now how not EVERYONE is NORTHERN hemisphere. :P

It's winter when it is summer for you!!! ;)

I vote Friday 13th as that is a unique date as well as something universal.

Yet we don't have to do "black" anything... just a unique date to use.

Lola Rose
03-31-2008, 07:31 PM
Sorry aussies!

you can think of it as the winter exchange if you want.

insulting me is rude tho.

dont get to excited. i think these things are going to be eliminated. dont shoot me i'm only the messenger. it's been discussed that there are to many hard feelings associated with it.

Lola Rose
03-31-2008, 07:42 PM
well, if people are already signed up, and the exchange is already off SW on elfster, how are they going to shut it down?

and honestly, that's rediculous.

Thats really stupid. Why should anyone have hard feelings? Its just friends exchanging gifts. If you dont want to participate..dont participate. But to get rid of something that makes so many people happy is just ridiculous. Why? Because a few sourpusses bitched about it? I'll be very disappointed in SW if they do this.

Lola Rose
03-31-2008, 07:45 PM
I'd totally see SW in a different light if they tried to pull that. how childish.

Lola Rose
03-31-2008, 07:46 PM
it's like saying we're going to not allow pictures, b/c that's why we have so many trolls.

maybe the higher ups should worry more about the important things and less about something a few SWers choose to do on a whole DIFFERENT site.

cameron_keys

well then i guess it would be the last one. like i said i'm just saying what is/was being discussed. it has nothing to do with me personally

Lola Rose

I'll still do this exchange if people still want. We can always take it to myspace or pm's or whatever.

why don't they move it to MB even?

i voted may 14th, because i want to do another one soon -and- that date is closest to my bday

:P

(and waayyy in advance, i'd like to claim dibs on organizing some sort of halloween exchange)

:D

as far as that goes.. i thought it -wasn't- including shipping? i went over 30 before shipping...

now that it's a contest or anything (that would suck) but i thought that was the norm.

Pretty_Penny
03-31-2008, 08:05 PM
also also...

i saw this thread before i saw the "buckets of fun" one.. so i didn't realize there was already one in the works before i voted.

i don't get why people are upset? i mean, if you don't like it, don't do it. i don't think it's hurting anyone.

i'm not a wealthy person, but i can think of sillier things i'll spend 30 bucks on in a month. so, instead of doing that, i'd rather have fun picking out stuff for someone else and getting a surprise (or wishlist "surprise") instead. if i could sign up a bunch of times i would, but i think i'd be pushing it for myself.. and i'd rather just do one person justice*

*note: just incase..
i don't mean that other people shouldn't, i think it's fantastic. just saying -i- personally would be stretching myself thin. :)

cameron_keys
03-31-2008, 08:08 PM
I honestly dont understand what the problem is. Why would this be stopped? Because people are having fun and making each other happy and a few cant deal with that? I cant believe SW would stoop to the level of stopping something that brings people here closer and makes them happy. It isnt like anyone is being excluded...EVERYONE is welcome to join. The only exception is new people because nobody wants someone disappointed because they ended up getting a troll who flakes and they dont get anything in return..thats more then fair.

People complain when people here are bitchy and mean..then complain when people are happy. You just cant please some people.

Honestly..if these exchanges are stopped I fear the sour taste it will leave in many members mouths will be the last straw for a lot and it will be the beginning of the end for SW.
