Now you are putting words in my mouth. I'm not going to repeat myself or continue this discussion further. Those who want to exaggerate what I've said can keep doing so because they will only think what they want anyway. You've used MORE than a few sarcastic remarks. In fact that's pretty much all I see when I read your posts. So I guess we're even.

this could have been interesting thread turned really lame and boring.

Why was this thread started to begin with anyway? To say "eww a serial killer made some art!"?

I started this thread because MY opinion is different than YOURS. I agree with TarsTone and Bem401. Manson creeps me out. Some intelligent things have been said in this thread in better ways than I could have worded it myself. If you still feel otherwise, I certainly don't agree with you but I'm not going to argue it to death. Notice that the title reads, "Charles Manson" (as in, "eewww, he creeps me out") not, "Ew, Charles Manson Makes Music". Take it as you will. The music part was what prompted me to make the thread in the first place since it brought back my feelings on the matter.

Every now and again I get contacted by former members. They knew my mom back in the '60s.

Charles Manson is far from eccentric....

FAR FAR FAR...

Eccentric is needed to experience things different from yourself and learn things outside of what you believe. It is good to have eccentric people in this world because it would be boring otherwise.

Charles Manson? Is a piece of shit.

I dont think eccentric = piece of shit.

Not at all! The letters/emails are always very nice and my mother gets spoken very well of. I get to learn about the woman I barely knew this way. I have that weird, morbid curiosity about death and murder. Not so much in a romanticized way, just in a way that... well it's the unknown. I don't have sin in my belief system, so what they did doesn't really grab me the way it does most folks...

Nah, I dont have sin in my belief system either. But pain, loss and being just plain terrified seems enough.

No offense but Im just so biased when it comes to stuff like this. Never used to be, used to adore `powerful` .....ahem cough...people, until I met/lived with a few like them. Just cowards they are, with brains wired a bit wrong. No big deal. And as soon as there are people dead, these losers are even less of a big deal.

Some people find the mind an interesting place. Some people are interested in minds different from their own. I saw Charles Mason Superstar, which is about half just interview with the man, and he is fascinating...he really does live in his own reality, and yet is very lucid and even articulate. He's been in prison nearly all his life, and solitary, at that. In a way, not so different from living a contemplative life, like a monk or ascetic. I definitely think prison/institutionalization is the only place for him, though. There's no way he could get by in normal society.

I'm much less sarcastic when arguing against someone who doesn't think Charles Manson was just a kooky funny little fella.

No one has said that. Your rhetoric does not make up for your lack of an argument. I'm not sure why you've seized on this topic to berate everyone about. We're not wrong just because we don't agree with you.

^ You need to read this thread more carefully instead of playing semantics with a statement that was clearly exaggerated for humor. The sentiment that Manson was an eccentric, interesting man, not a murderous sociopath, has been expressed here.

I am the same way, it's unknown and none of us know what happens when die. On the same hand, most of us don't know what it's like to be capable of taking anothers life. So it's interesting (morbidly or not) to try and psycho analyze these situations.

I think it's human nature to be curious and wanting to learn as much as we can about things we are told are taboo.

Eccentric doesn't necessarily = piece of shit. The two have nothing to do with each other. Eccentric means odd. Manson is absolutely one of the most eccentric (oddest) characters I've ever seen and is also one of the biggest pieces of shit (to use your words) in the history of American crime.

I wonder why he stopped with just those murders? Meaning if he could minipulate so well why couldn't he continue to do it from prison, solitary or not he does have some kind of outside contact or at least inside contact that could be channeld out someway.Ya he creeps me out as well the only curiosity I have with him is how do people get like this?

Being eccentric has nothing to do with being either good or bad. The definition of eccentric is : deviating from the recognized or customary character. Irregular, erratic, peculiar, or odd.

Being eccentric and being a piece of shit are not mutually exclusive.

Charles Manson was both.

I read the book "Helter Skelter". His purpose for the murders was to start a race war. They left wallets and credit cards stolen from the victims in black neighborhoods, figuring the cards would get used , traced back to black people, who whites would blame for the murders, thus starting a war between blacks and whites. He figured the blacks would win but would be unable to run things and they'd come to him and his family to take charge. They were going to hide in the desert while the war went on.

They are widely suspected of many murders beyond those for which they were charged. One of his lieutenants, Squeaky Fromme, tried to assassinate President Ford in the 70's. I think he just has had very limited access to the outside world since he was convicted. BTW, I recommend the book written by Vincent Bugliosi. It is a fascinating read.
