skills testing is very simple. you can put the "randoms" through a simple phone screen or email them some technical problems. it's trivially easy to verify qualifications for this type of work.
and frankly, starting with site users is a better privacy angle, in many respects.

It's my opinions that it isn't so straight forward based on the fact that knowledge and ability are two seperate things. I've seen absolute eejits getting degrees simply because they can spout learned textbook knowledge in exams.
It's a harsh fact that employers in this area generally prefer experience, and if forum users do in fact have an established track record then thats great, i think they should be as considered as anyone else.
I wasn't trying to suggest that forum volunteers were all less qualified than outside companies.
It's a problem i will have to face myself when i graduate, although more larger employers are beginning to see the benefit of taking on interns and new university grads.
It's also true that a large percentage of self taught developers are not aware of some industry standards that people who are professionally taught are exposed to. Some of which are very important in this area, as it is important the site can be easily maintained.
again -disclaimer- not every forum volunteer is self taught either!

I just responded to a comment of yours farther up this page, I think.
I only average about 1.3 posts a day on the site. Like I said earlier, I've been on the site for coming up on four years and I've not even reached 2,000 posts yet. So there are many, many people who I have not responded to or whose posts I've not commented on, probably because I had nothing intelligent to say, or they had already covered the topic beautifully.
If you asked me a direct question and I didn't answer, then obviously I didn't see it. I hope you don't take offense at my missing it.
First time ever. And I've probably spoken directly to you 15 times since you came on the site. Believe it or not, the first 12 times or so were nice, after that I got just a TAD confrontational. Someone like Britts comments will be directly above and below mine, and somehow you manage to see those comments and miss mine entirely. YEAH!

Despite the fact that many of the people posting in this thread apparently think of me as a shameless braggart -- a characteristic of somebody completely devoid of class, I might add ...
People tend to think that when they read things like the following:
You are a greedy cockslut because you have never experienced what it's like to be spoiled by an American multimillionaire. I mean one who is trained, specifically trained, to do certain things you would find enjoyable.....you've not yet been controlled, used, restrained, tied-up, mind-fucked, fed chocolate, cherries, whipped cream, strawberries and champagne, in mid-flight, flown out on a private aircraft with private aircraft food, been given as presents perfectly wrapped in silver boxes with ribbons, gift cards, signed custom greeting cards and colored tissue paper, THE pair of knee-high boots, Tiffany's diamonds, 24-hour limo service, 24-hour room service, and a blank check to do anything and everything your adorable heart desires.
It's three phone calls my doll.
I can't reach you from DC, though. I could fly the Gulfstream V (the new G550) out of Los Angeles, but it's range of 6,000 nautical miles doesn't even get us to Cairns, much less Sydney or Melbourne. I'd have to fly one of the
G550's out of Hawaii -- that would get me into the entire East Coast of Australia. Then we could get down to business.
I thought about doing something Valentine's Day-ish, like how many SW women have posted that they've had sex dreams about me or grabbed the vibe after reading my erotica or seeing my pics. The pathetic thing is, I actually know that number. It's large enough to accept as a winning entry anything within five of the actual number.
I may post the semi-nudes, which I mostly did for the benefit of the all-female lighting crew, who were silently (they thought) whispering about what I looked like under the suit during clothing changes. I got one "Oh my God," coming out of change, which was the girl who lost the bet, I think.
I'm getting pounded by text messages from the five newest Hooters waitresses. They say they are having a contest on how I spell my last name. Each one is sending a separate guess. They are all wrong.
It's very cute because they know I know they know how to spell my last name. They walk around with half my credit cards most of the night, and then we all hit the bar in the shopping center until close. They see it all the time.
It's such a "young dancer" thing to do to drive customers to the club. It's so cute that they can't see how transparent it is. I've only taken a couple of these girls to the club, so they are not yet up on real SS. But they will learn....
One is pissed, however, and just texted me, "U have ignored me all week so come in right now & c me, dammit!" I think she's ready to dance any day.

This isn't a direct response to the post above just one to TOO in general. Regardless of what you did and how you did it, and intentional or not. Your's is the name in big letters at the top. I honestly thought you were the owner of the site for about a month.
If there is going to be something like that, and people know that you give a lot to the site, you have to keep that in mind when you post, or people will think a certain way about you.
Personally I think you have either not kept that in mind, or don't care. Again, that's just my opinion.

TarsTone, I'd like to thank you for that more than words can say.
There's a reason why I don't keep regulars at the strip club - I refuse to kiss ass to those I am really quite ambivalent about. I have no problem with TOO. I have no problem with the girls who ass-kiss TOO.
Why? Cause it's the one guy who sits at the bar and touts how nice a guy he is while throwing money at the strippers and at the owner. Who comes off as needing more than anything a reason - any reason - to be there, to be loved and adored by the naked women masses. Even if it means he has to do it by throwing around money.
Some girls get jealous. Some girls don't care one way or another. But no matter what, it's pervasive, it's everywhere, in all kinds of insidious political drama-starting bull crap, that you shouldn't talk smack, shouldn't talk back, to him or the girls in his in-crowd fan club because, after all, who lent the owner the money to keep this place going?
There's too much back door politics tied up in who gives who what or who pays what on the site - when there isn't even a way to balance it out. I'd love to donate - I've said it before and again.
My honest opinion is this - we have an attention whore with lots of money. We have girls willing to ass kiss in hopes of that money. We have rationales from the higher ups that we shouldn't care that it starts lots of drama because he helps fund the site. Sit down and shut up. Not, let's give EVERYONE a way to donate so one person doesn't get all this drama fest going. Just - sit down and shut up. Kiss ass or STFU.
I'm sure this post of mine will dissapear, just like the last one I posted like this. By who? Who knows. Like I said - secret politics and fan clubs, the lot of it.

I wasn't trying to call you out Britt. I just meant in this thread. It's always someone different that gets answered. That's part of why it pisses me off. For a while I was convinced him and most of the mods had me on ignore.
It's just really frustrating not being heard. Then I hear how the site needs money, yet we can't donate, and even if we could, how many are going to when the governing members are so damn elitist?
I mean, the hubby and I could probably afford a weekly donation, but should I give my money to a board where I'll always be treated as a 2nd class citizen or go to Saks where I'm treated like a princess. Huh, tough decision!::)

Just curious -- have you read a single thing I've actually written here, or what has actually been posted by other members in other threads?
That my financial support of the site at a level that kept it alive when it was very close to death (disappearing for days at a time) was totally anonymous for nearly two years?
That I pulled out of the gift exchanges to eliminate the drama and hopefully make sure they continue?
That I took the other financial support activities totally underground because Bridgette suggested it?
That the girls that got gifts in the most recent gift exchange requested them, surely did not have to "kiss ass," and in fact included girls who didn't like me? As well as girls I've never had contact with?
It's amazing how all this gets ignored completely.
Oh, and the most important -- who's idea was it to broaden the scope of financial participation in StripperWeb to include as many people as possible? Wanna take a wild guess? It was me. It was the first piece of advice I gave to Pryce when this whole thing got started, and it's been the cornerstone of the fundraising program under development. It's crucial to broaden the support so everybody feels like they have more ownership. That was my key contribution to the strategy.
I'm very sorry for your post because I was about to PM you with a very heartfelt thank-you for something very special that you did recently. I'll still send it, but I am saddened by your assessment of the situation because anonymity has played a crucial role in so much of what I do, even today (and of course I can't say what that is, because it becomes "bragging.")

You do realize that most of those were deep in the middle of humorous threads, particularly the first one to Lysondra. We were in an escalation crazy post mode and just having fun with it. Same with at least two others. She can confirm that.
The thing about taking exaggeration or parody or competitive posts out of context is that you don't see everything around them, or the fact that both sides are usually smiling when they post.
Your post is a good one, though, and suggests that I have to be very careful even in parody to not get carried away with things that people might take too seriously.

TOO, your inbox is full. I'm posting this here.
TOO,
as I said in that post, I don't have a problem with you, one way or another. I am aware that you were quiet about your early contributions and I feel that was so, so, so admirable. There was no drama about it then.
But the things like in TarsTone's post - that bothers me. It bothers a lot of people. Enough to leave. Even if they are in jest - and I know some of them are - factions are forming due to those comments. Unfortunately, a lot of the "higher ups" are too involved in one side of it to see the other and the drama brought by them. Either personally, or through good friends who are involved.
And I know I sounded quite vehement - I am. But I don't dislike you personally. One thing that added to the vehemency of my post is that I posted in the big dramafest about the gift exchanges twice. One of my posts was left up. One that was a bit more pointed was taken down. Deleted. Without a trace. Vanished. And I'm TOTALLY not the only one.
Please don't think I'm mad at you, or I hate you, or whatever - this place is just starting to reek of strip club drama and I'm seeing more and more of my good IRL friends leave over it. I'm just pointing out that there's a place where a lot of the drama lies and lots of people are too involved to fix it.
I feel my opinions are being quashed because there are two factions forming - and this seems to be one of the issues at the heart of it.
All my best to you,
Cherry

I think that's been one of the key messages of this thread. I'm doing what I can to take the temperature down several degrees on anything relating to funding, money, gifts or whatever.
Ultimately, perhaps I need to take every single thing underground. Nobody knows anything. Worked for two years.

I don't think people have that big a problem with you acknowledging that you fund the site. It's the elitist, "I like you, so you get a pressie, and guess what, your posts aren't gonna be deleted and you pretty much have run of the place." attitude that bugs. Yes, I know you say you don't have that power, but maybe it is because the mods are afraid of pissing you off, because it sure seems to happen that way. It has seemed that way for a looong time. You don't have to be a contributing member of the site anymore, you just have to have cybersex with TOO and your golden.

fuck my computer is not letting me cut and paste. I was trying to quote jasmine's "you only need to be having cybersex w/ TOO and you're golden."
wow. ha. as funny as that sounds, it's true. I was told in the gift exchange thread, "you're just jealous because you didn't bother making friends with TOO." But that was the problem... I LIKED TOO at the beginning (under my former SN) because of his intelligence, his ability to craft language, his witticisms, etc... I started noticing his posts in some of the more interesting debates on language, culture, ethnicity, etc... and I thought he was a very intriguing guy! Unfortunately, as he began posting more, it was no longer just the interesting site discussions, but the ridiculous "erotica" (as much in jest as it was supposed to be), the pic request thread where everyone got to be really buddy buddy if they squealed intensely enough for photographic proof of James Bond's true idenity, and more threads along those lines.
TOO developed a cult of personality... and not one to which I was very partial. I liked him much better as a linguist, an intelligent contributor with a sensual side, a guy who'd write sweetly about his girl now and then. The adorations of SW girls & returned cooing slathered on TOO got REALLY annoying, really fast. Does that make me jealous? no... hardly... it just happened in EVERy damn thread I tried to read in which he posted. I just don't understand why it was all so PUBlic... As much as there has been stuff written about what has gone on behind the scenes (perhaps evidenced by the purported full inbox, as mentioned above), it obviously remains on the forefront in many peoples' views about the site right now... I commend TOO for his recent decisions, but I am simply trying to illustrate WHY and HOW it is not easy to "digitally befriend" a man whom everyone else is cyber-fucking. And yeah... just like in the club... if you don't take it to the level of the other girls, you're not gonna get noticed. The first actual 'conversation' we had was also a disagreement. Sad, too, that many women on this site feel there is little grey area between over-the-top flirting, complete ignoring, and full-out disagreements.

I just don't understand the need to "TOO Bash". I've been on the boards for quite some time now and really haven't had much contact with him directly. If people feel like they have to walk on eggshells because of what he does, then thats their problem. I don't recall people being threatened for speaking out at TOO, nor do I ever remember seeing TOO ever threaten a member of this board.
Jeez... if you don't like what he has to say just frickin ignore it!! Its that simple.
Girls bragging about what they got helped to perpetuate the TOO saga. Its two sided.
I have to admit, I'd probably be over the moon as well had I ever been on the receiving end of TOO's generosity. But, I don't really have a wishlist full of trifles... my life at this point is more concerned with getting my medical problems handled. I do the gift exchanges because its the only contact I really have with the world right now.... I spend a good chunk of my time in bed. Thats part of the reason why I have re-emerged on the boards as of late. I have lots of time on my hands.
Its sad that long time members feel they need to leave... but I understand some of the concerns as well. The clubs link has been broken forever...as have the games (I used to love the cat and mouse game). The site needs an upgrade, but that takes time and money....
Don't try and redeem yourself with short posts now. Far too late.

Male posters named Sh0t: straight piff for the thread.
Thank you
Exact! :shhh:

Collette, the only people who posted anything about my contributions in the culture, ethnicity and language threads were Djoser and Sh0t. Nobody else bothered to read them because they were too friggen' long, and they even said so.
Lots of crickets in those threads, that's for sure.:)
don't forget budai, optomist, francesca, xdamage... but like mia said (and as you mentioned before), just because someone doesn't post doesn't mean they're not reading or extremely interested... in your own words, often the main posters within a thread dissect the subject pretty thoroughly, or one feels that it's not necessarily their area of expertise, or nothing really need be added. doesn't mean people aren't interested... also, a lot of the newer-poster literati (er something) weren't around for some of those.

Once Bridgette dissed the blue, it was over for her.
Got no swag with buck teeth
NO SWAG WITH BUCK TEETH CURTIS
Anybody who refers to Bridgette as Bridgette is gonna get points. We shall now refer to the person who formerly posted as Bridgette as Curtis. The same way we call Jenny, James.
I stayed out of this thread mostly because I wanted to see what you guys could come up with, but frankly I was let down.
The "I keep it real" Award goes to Zxcire for this lovely exchange:
Look bitch, I responded very nicely to your shitty little remarks on the first page of this thread but I feel no need to be nice again. Since this is MY farewell thread I would appreciate if you keep your snotty little remarks to yourself.
Bridgitte. That post wasn't even directed to you. However, since you went there:
You fucked a lot of people over with your stupid shitty business practices. You have no room to talk.
Take care!!!!
She gets a deduction for her spelling, however.
The "I fail" award goes to B for this, at the tail end of the above exchange:
WTFever. Why don't you go back to the basement and suck up some more to the blueballers?
Bridgette dissing blue is like Bill Clinton saying he hates niggers. Don't dis your base!
The MVP award goes to TarsTone for many posts, but this one in particular:
embarassing himself with sex god nonsense
The "Mod that deleted the Classic Material" Award goes to Tigersmilk
Thank you all for participating.

You guys have no idea how much deep shit I'm in for typing this from my car on my Cellphone...
I have no right to type here, I know that should effectively be the end of my post, but, well, you know me...
Everything so far is useless fingerpointing. Seriously, I enjoy bridgette's input as much as anyone, and will miss her avatar equally as much. (remember the one where she was laid out? Wow.) But let the girl go. This very thread only feeds everyone's discontent.
I am willing to do my part to return the community to what it was. I am capable of providing web based merchant payment processing and would even pay the fees to start it off and invest my time to find the appropriate moules to autoupgrade those who've donated.
The only thing conceivably good about people like bridgette leaving is that we may make it temporary by realizing it for the wakeup call that it is. All this thread is doing is validating her reasons.
If administration plans to keep this community running and on top of the competition, they need to ask the community that has put stripperweb on top what they need to do to make it better and apply stripperweb's resources to those solutions or risk losing being on top. It's that simple.
I've met a lot of great people here. Pryce is partly responsible for my coming child. It would break my heart to see this site continue to devolve. That means accepting that we're all part of it, and giving those in control the proper tools, input, respect, support, and patience to produce in return for some god progress updates.
Pryce, TOO, you have MY respect, as do all the mods for what my respect is worth, I know what pryce went through as I went through the same thing at the same time, and it is NO walk in the park for me, and he was a better man with a better woman. I can only imagine the personal grief. TOO all i can suggest to you, brother, is to not stop with what your doing if you derive true happiness from it, but just keep it personal. once upon a time you'dNEVER reference anything you've done for someone unless they publically addressed you first, and even then, you where very brief in your acknowledgement never even hinting to your funding, gifts, personal life (save the touch and go on the happenings of your daughter). You always remained on topic of a thread alluding to nothing other than your agenda to bring good customers back to the strip club. Knowing your kindness was for a lucky few who earned it. Maybe that's your answer?
Again, this really isn't any of my business, I just care. Hell, it's a mystery *I*'m not banned. The proof of my breaking of the cardinal rule is about to have it's first birthday, and I'm forever thankful.

I have just spent an hour reading this thread and playing catchup and I gotta say...
How did a thread on Bridgette leaving and telling us how she really feels (and it's about time SOMEONE did, really, otherwise how'll we know all the crap going on?) into a thread on how horrible of human TOO is for giving people nice things to make them feel better? o.O;

We covered that already with this post:
TOO has learned thread diversion tactics from Lysondra in exchange for those boots.

Sure you did.

I did, but there's an option to 'view post' by someone you blocked. I realized you replied after me and it must've been directed to me so I chose to see it and the last post. Otherwise I've been ignoring everything you say as I just didn't care enough anymore and didn't want to start drama replying to your insanity.
