Yeah...diamond earrings don't necessarily always have screw backs...
My advice to you is not to worry about someone else's business, I'd frankly be flattered if someone was taking this much time worrying about whether or not I make a lot of money. Maybe she does- who are you to judge how she spends it?

I make awesome money and wear wal-mart boots held together on the seams with silver tape cause they're old and falling apart and i hate shopping for boots. i don't care about looks or labels. i'm just not comfortable looking or acting like i have money. Negative attention. THAT (the thought that I have money) is NOT what i want people to pay attention to me for, if they're going to pay attention at all.
like someone else said, it's in the bank.

Amen, sister.
I don't get why you'd want to worry about someone else's behaviors or shopping patterns or style of dress. That's them.
You're you. Take care of your shit.
(And, besides, why buy designer when you can get the knock-offs? It's all made in the same sweat shops in SE Asia. The knock-off shit is just made after hours and then smuggled out. The employees actually make more money making that stuff than they do the real label shit.)
What the hell are you buying?! :O

I have connections in Thailand. And I wear what's comfortable and ethical, not what's necessarily the trendiest or most expensive.
Bad attitudes make you look trashy, not cheap clothes. Attacking others on the basis of style is tacky as hell. And if people are "noticing" you because of your clothes, you might be lacking something that's more important.

I agree with your second point but your first point makes no sense if you're actually buying designer. My stuff is made in Italy by 60 year old men. But I don't wear it to be noticed. I wear it for quality.

Some of the girls running around with new louis vuitton and chanel purses may not have been the one who purchased them. They are, rather, the recipients of these 'material' gifts from sugar daddies/wealthy customers and the like. A LOT of men will not hesitate to buy a woman frivolous things but will scoff at buying them something they can actually USE, like a car or helping to set up an IRA (!).
I have a lot of authentic designer clothing/shoes/bags, etc that I would NEVER purchase on my own, all thanks to those types of customers. However, I do not ever brag or boast about earnings and already have my basic necessities(car, rent, bills) taken care of. Just thought I'd chime in!

So according to you, its safe to say that when I notice the impoverished women with 10 kids ridding the bus with their fake coach bags that these women are all lacking "something that is more important"...okay
If you wear anything fake people are going to notice, especially when its obvious you have no money. I'd rather not draw attention to myself.

Firstly who the fuck cares what other girls are making and buying. Unless it's your cash they are spending it shouldn't worry you.
Secondly, I fucking hate people who buy cheap immitations of quality brands. As Lysondra said I wear it for the quality and it shits me when people cheapen the brand by wearing fakes, hence making those of us who do buy the real thing look like we are prob wearing a cheap, tacky knock-off.

You see someone in an unfortunate position in life and your main concern is that they might be wearing knock-offs?

If you really where it for the quality than why would it matter if people think its a knock off? I don't see anything wrong with admitting that you wear it partially for the status symbol.

In the book linked below, there are discussions about how a lot of luxury brands (Coach being the biggest offender, Chanel, Dior, especially LV with the exception of their top-end custom bags) will do things like make EVERYTHING in China, EXCEPT for, say, the handle... and then the handle will say 'made in italy' and the consumer will assume that the rest of the bag/product is manufactured there as well. Most companies will not publicize this fact. But it is outsourced.
And yes, in some of those factories, some people are worked incredibly hard and beyond what we would consider within okay labor laws. Not all of them.
But there are sources for claims such as the one above.
(This book is not anti-luxury at all, it just explains how corporations have co-opted everything nice about a lot of it. Hermes is a HUGE exception. Love those Kelly bags!)

I am almost as poor as those people and I wouldnt be caught dead wearing a knockoff. it just makes you look really really stupid and trashy. Like i said before, I'd rather where no name stuff than a designer knockoff. They should do the same. Like the other girl said, it cheapens the brand when so many people have knockoffs. I personally hate LV now because soo many girls here wear knockoffs and now the brand just looks tacky to me.

I don't wear knockoff's either, nor do I wear designer clothes but at the same time I couldn't give a hot fuck what other people wear...
I dunno maybe it's just me but I've got bigger concerns in my life, like paying for tuition. I just don't pay attention to what other people wear...to me the difference between classy and trashy is more about the way you conduct yourself and the content of your character rather than your closet....

FYI, some of the designer brands actually do moonlight their shops as fakie-producing places. I read an article about it in Consumer Reports

I wear it primarily for the quality and also because I like the particular brand. People who aren't willing to spend the $$$ don't deserve to be wearing it. ;)

The ladies talking about the difference in quality between knockoffs and fakes are obviously right-
Take for instance the LV knockoffs. NONE of those bags are made of leather! PVC pleather is not my idea of quality. The edges on those bags are never finished right, the buckles are always made of some cheap alloy thats covered with a shiny film that eventually peels off, etc.

Huh? How do you screw diamonds out of your ear? I have diamond earrings that go on and off just like any other earrings. I've never seen screw-type earrings before.
my mom's are like that... I think it's an old thing. Mine don't screw on, but I wish they did. It makes them hard to lose.

Canvas isn't my idea of luxury...but it's funny how all those LV's on some canvas changes that. ;)

I agree. It's kind of like how Old Navy and Banana Republic are manufactured in the same factories but have massively huge price differences. It's the same skill used to make the clothes but the context is so different.

I've gotten some good stuff from old navy, it's incredibly cheap and I've had a couple items for almost ten years that are still great.
As for designers...meh...
I think it's different for me though, because I calculate how much it would cost ME to make something, and when the cost to make an item is a couple hundred and the cost to buy the item is several thousand then they just seem like greedy bastards to me. Especially since I know I pay a helluva lot more for materials then they do since they buy in bulk.
But I'm a nut about things like that.
Oh, and don't listen to broads who brag about how much money they make. I felt like shit when I started because everyone bragged about how much more than me they made, until I had one good night. My good night was only as much as these bitches claimed to make every night, but when they heard how much I made their eyes all got big, "Wow, really, you made that much?! Here?!" Umm...ok... if you make that every night, then why is it so shocking?

No, she meant that YOU are missing something more important if that's what you are noticing about people. Why do you care if some woman is wearing a fake bag? How on earth is that any of your business?

^^ I notice and altho its none of my business I tend to notice a LV or Coach bag... then notice if its fake. Its hard not to notice - I just love purses. I notice knock off sunglasses too... doesnt bother me but I see it. Like MsOnyx Id rather have a Target purse than a knock off - thats just me tho. Im not a fan of the fakes.

If you are as poor as the people you are judging, perhaps you might want to consider putting your money into savings instead of designer purses so you can stop being poor.
This thread is craziness. Who cares how much the other girls are making or what they are wearing? If the money is not going into my bank account, I could care less about it. I also really don't care what the other girls wear.

How do you know they have no money?
You wouldn't think I had a dime to my name if you saw me out in public during the day running errands, lol. I wear t-shirts and yoga pants and flip flops; just like every other mother that is frazzled with life. Only difference is my handbag, it's Coach; and my wedding set (Tacori).
And no, none of it is fake, but to look at me you wouldn't know that, till you looked closer. My yoga pants (vertigo), t shirt (juicy, or cheap gym tee), flops (steve madden), glasses (gucci), necklace (from the top local jeweler one of a kind), and on and on.
I look cheap and broke, and it works cause people don't bug me.
