That is about the sickest most demented heartless, thoughtless thing I have ever heard in my life. Why in the name of God when anyone want to see that ? And isn't that a health hazard if her exhibit contains her blood on plastic sheets. I think I'm going to be sick.....seriously. I just ate a hotdog.

How could this happen at Yale ? She needs to have her head examined. She must be mentally unstable.

Guys it was a hoax.
She didn't do it.

Links to three different news stories are below.

A Yale University student's claims to have induced multiple miscarriages for an art project have been branded "creative fiction" by college deans. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1895884/Abortion-art-a-hoax%2C-claims-university.html)

Hours later came an announcement from the Yale University Office of Public Affairs stating that the art project was just that — art. “The entire project is … a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman’s body,” read the statement by Yale spokesperson Helaine Klasky. “She stated to three senior Yale University officials today, including two deans, that she did not impregnate herself and that she did not induce any miscarriages.” (http://pranks.com/2008/04/19/abortion-art-project-whos-hoaxing-whom/)

"The entire project is an art piece, a creative fiction designed to draw attention to the ambiguity surrounding form and function of a woman's body," said Yale spokeswoman Helaine Klasky. (http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D904AFH80&show_article=1)

Yea, apparently she was just turkey basting herself, not sure if she was pregnant, took herbs, and put whatever came out of her vagina that month into a cube.

Awesome.

Curiously had she incubated the eggs of an animal (as opposed to a human being) then killed the hatchlings repeatedly over a period of time I'm pretty sure the debate would be quite different.

Glad to hear it was a hoax but I do wonder about her mental stability. The whole concept was just freaky!

Well if they were hatchlings..it would more akin to killing a baby then a fetus.

...by which you mean people would still be outraged? Because they would. Why kill something that has already hatched? Why kill something you aren't going to eat?

Anyways, this was what I wrote when this issue first came to light:

I think, if this had been real, I would have been angry.

Not only would she be purposefully damaging her body (pregnancy and miscarriages are rough, to say the least) but she'd be purposefully conceiving, and then terminating a pregnancy. I think there's something wrong with being so flippant about pregnancy, especially when you think about how many people are physically unable to have biological children. I have no problems with abortions, (I think every woman should make the choice best suited for her situation) but I do dislike when people are irresponsible and get multiple abortions because they and their partner don't want to bother using a goddamn condom. Similarly, someone repeatedly doing something so invasive to their body for the sake of "art" (ie "attention" or "a statement") offends me.

However, if she had gotten pregnant by accident, and then decided to self-abort/miscarry, I wouldn't have a problem with it, because it would mean she didn't SET OUT to do something so unhealthy. It wouldn't be premeditated pregnancy for the sake of termination. If she took something unplanned and tried to make art out of her decision, I would find it poignant and brave. I definitely think that miscarriage/abortion is taboo and controversial because it is so private and hidden from the public eye.

Let's just say I'm glad this was fake.

So true. There woud've been much more of an outrage if it was the hatchlings.

Makes you wonder what this society's values really are.
