It's illogical. I don't think nature got pissed off one day and said, "Hey, I have an idea! Let's shake my booty on China!"

:rotfl: OMFG, I haven't laughed that hard in a while. I agree that we are just more aware of what's going on in the world with the internet and such.

not only that the world is way more populated, especially china. hence the higher death tolls.

So sad that some people will never be able to have kids because they are sterilized and they just lost their only child.

well maybe now they will go adopt a child out of those pits of hell they call orphanages? There are plenty of babies and children that need care.

aka watch the dying room

Maybe, maybe they will never want a child at all. Still sad.

Yes it's very sad. However, having children is the least of anyones worries right now. And even more so there.

Can it be found online? *scampers off to check*

Off topic a bit, but you might want to check out Born into Brothels as well. Different country, different circumstances, but still sad and about children.

OK I was thinking about this thread and I wanted to add...I am in no way saying that people who get hurt in natural disasters (or any disasters) "deserve" it...because if anything, most likely they're actually even living lowest-impact (ecologically speaking) yet getting screwed far worse than those in the rich and wasteful countries.

Nonetheless, I do think we have a massive overpopulation problem, in terms of sustainability issues, ecosystem issues, etc. Perhaps the planet can handle billions of people, but that doesn't seem to leave much room for everyone else. (I consider animals/plants peers).

^^^ I totally understood where you were coming from. However tragic this event is, in the grand scheme of things, the world could use a little relief from humans.

It's sad to think how one day these people were living so normally, and the next their lives were gone before they knew it. :(

It comes from a culture that believes totally in the extended family. Your Sons are your security in your old age. There is no social security safety net, 401ks, and retirement savings? Eh what. It is abhorrent and immoral certainly not keeping with todays realities. The Chinese gov should have instituted a program for aged pensioners at the same time as the one child program.

^^t's sick. I understand wanting security and all but man, a good parent, a real parent puts their child's needs BEFORE their own. During one scene, the narrator says something like, "This (referring to dying female baby in orphanage) is a direct result of the government's strict rules." WRONG. It's the result of certain people/families NOT knowing the value of a human life, regardless of gender. The abandonment and hell these kids have to endure due to parents dumping their kids b/c they want a boy is nothing short of animalistic. Fucking disgusting.
Scratch that, even animals have better instincts than the parents in China who abandon their babies.
Sorry, that video INFURIATED me and I had to say that.
End threadjack.

Female infanticide existed long before the one child policy. Female infanticide is actually more common in neighboring India, which doesn't have a one child policy.

Infanticide in general used to be common throughout most of the world in the not-so-distant past. *runs away from thread*

I don't think the world is coming to an end. Don't quote me on that though.
:crossfing

How do I know? Well, despite the rash of natural disasters both foreign and domestic over the past couple of weeks, Fox News still continues to give undeserved attention to the latest story about an attractive white female from a good Christian family who was murdered or has gone missing, likely at the hands of some thug who is obviously non-white, non-Christian or watches CNN whom wouldn't have been able to commit said crime if we'd build the border fence and only give due process to spoiled trust fund brats who play lacrosse.

Clearly a sign the apocalypse is not upon us.

2012. Suppposedly that's the end of it all. Who knows.

It's horrible what's going on right now. But i do feel like we're more hyperaware of world conditions thanks to the internet and other forms of communication.

All too true. There are tens of thousands dead in natural disasters, tens of thousands more dead in wars, food shortages, rising gas prices, mortgage crisis, credit crisis, and rising crime, and the most Fox can say is "White woman in trouble!!!"

The worls is NOT ending, but it is changing. Inexorably too.

The Earth's crust is so thin and weak and the Earth's core and mantle is so hot, molten, and flowing. It's like a soft eggshell over a molten egg.

This situation is only to be expected in vulnerable places. Still it's one of the many tragedies of living on Earth and not being very flexible about where it is safer to live.

All too true. There are tens of thousands dead in natural disasters, tens of thousands more dead in wars, food shortages, rising gas prices, mortgage crisis, credit crisis, and rising crime....

You'd think that we would all recognize that we all have enough natural disasters, diseases, and aging to cope with that we'd would not purposely cause man-made disasters and genocides. But I guess we're all sons/daughters of the Devil and our Daddy made us do it. Sad, isn't it?

Eh nobody knows if it's ending or not.

If it's not awesome hope it changes.

If it is well I hope it ends quickly and it doesn't drag on and on.

RE 2012...it's not predicted to be the end of the world. It's predicted to be the end of the Mayan calendar and the beginning of a dramatically different new era in the Earth's history. WHich may or may not include people.

More info on this idea @ www.RealitySandwich.com

and/or check out my friend Daniel Pinchbeck's book 2012: The Return of Quetzecoatl (http://www.amazon.com/2012-Return-Quetzalcoatl-Daniel-Pinchbeck/dp/1585424838). Pulling from prophecies from a variety of cultures, and his own experiences with ayahuasca and other plants, he theorizes that it's the return of spirtuality to materialism. That's a drastic oversimplification of his concept, of course.

Believe me, it is NOT ending, geologically especially. Man can destroy the whole life system, and certainly himself, and further seems to want to, in just a few years, but life somehow will live on. It always does.
