That is a sexy GSR. My boyfriend is a honda man ;).
Earl, while I'm impressed your mustang ran a low 14, bone stock, ::) I am even more impressed that my ex boyfriend's 1992 Eagle Talon TSi (AWD, turbo) ran a low 12 (with two passengers--me being one of them), bone stock. No drag slicks, just normal street tires. Norwalk, OH... I'm there once a year for the DSM shootout.
Final weight: 2,700 pounds + passengers
(They are officially supposed to run a 14.4 @ 96 MPH with 190 HP).
Power maxes out at about 6k, but the engine can run up to 7k.
I assume that this was not at a track as no track will permit a run with passengers so you don't have a time slip.
Now bone stock means as it came from the factory with no modifications not even a tune for higher octane. My GT with me weighs 3700 pounds and has 300 hp at the flywheel. The Eagle Talon TSi weighs 1000 pounds less and has forced air induction. The AWD helps it lock up at the start. Low 12 for that car bone stock are fantastic I would like to see the time slip.
One cannot compare apples to oranges; there was a 1969 GTO at Street Legal night. He had historic plates so he did not have to pass state inspection. He too had forced air induction. At the green light his front wheels went two feet into the air and he ran in the 9s.
At this point in time my goal was to go 100mph; I did it but it took a near perfect launch, standard snow tires spin very easily. My shifts had to be made at 5800rpm. If I go for 6000rmp and the shift isn't perfect the revlimiter will kick in and I'm dead. As the weather gets cooler the car runs better I want to do a 13 before I start modifying the car.
Now if you really want to have some fun get a Top Fuel and beat this 4.42.

It was at a track, called the Norwalk Raceway Park. How else would I have gotten the 1/4 mile time? ::) I don't have the slip because it wasn't my car and he has the slip, we're broken up, and it was three years ago. I have no reason to lie or try to "up" you for my own sake, it wasn't my car!
He wasn't using megasquirt in that car, that was for his project car only. He used that car strictly as a daily. We drove it down there because it is more reliable that the other talon he had at the time which was modded and had a shit load of problems. (Who wants to drive a car with no power steering, radio, or interior from Michigan to Ohio)?
The Norwalk Raceway Park does allow passengers. They have special rules depending on what the owner says the car will run during sign ups. Everyone has to wear a helmet, though, even if the car is going to run a 16. I go there for a special event hosted in August by Buschur Racing Forums, called the DSM/Evo Shootout. Most of the cars there will run between an 11 and a 14, but the cars that make it into the Quick 16 are running 8s and 9s. (All safety precautions are taken).
:)
This is a youtube video made by the ex of another 1g Talon he had (not the one we drove to the track):

No problem I get beat by ricers all of the time; small car small engine forced to put out more than it should. It works for awhile then they dump oil all over the track and waste 1/2 hour of racing time while they clean it up. Mitsubishi made some good planes.
Here is a Mitsubishi A6M Zero looking good.

ETP- I find several of your posts to be entertaining, but the last sentence here didn't pass the sniff test. For one, I can't imagine US allowing ANY Japanese warplane, least of all the Zero, to lie untouched at the bottom of Pearl Harbor for 40 plus years, much less 40 days. Curiosity got the better of me- upon going to website depicted at bottom of picture, location of Zero wreck was listed as Papua, New Guinea. There is a very fine article in the Feb.1998 Flight Journal "Zero Myth, Mystery, and Fact" by Corky Meyer that gives some good comparisons of US Fighters vs the Zero.

Actually, I'll say THEM: Nakajima (Engines for Zero Fighter, and Kate Torpedo Bomber), and Mitsubishi ( Betty Medium Bomber, primary engine for Judy Dive Bomber). Another "Earl Boner" I didn't catch right away. (814pm post did infer a Mitsubishi engine in the Zero wreck). There were some other engine manufacturers in Japan, but Mitsubishi & Nakajima were the main ones. Post edit addendum: for your reading pleasure, www.avweb.com/news/pelican/1185354-1.html

DSMs aren't the only ones dumping oil all over the tracks, you know. I've seen my share of EVOs and Subarus do it as well, and those cars are much newer. For some 16 and 17-year-old cars to continue performing as well as they do, I have to give them some respect.
I'm not hating on mustangs, its just that most of the guys I see driving them are 22-year-old douche bags that think they're cool because their car is named after a horse, but they can't even change their own oil! ::)

Wow, what a day. I attempt to provide a link for further "edification& enlightenment" & get a "YFU" from link. I point out 2 factual errors , and get falsely accused by Earl of some things. Earl- where in my posts did I say that Japanese build better airplanes, cars, or engines than USA? Or that US didn't really decisively beat Japan in WW2? I'm actually pulling for you, and other Mustang owners to give the ricers a sound thrashing, as, imo, some ricers are amoung the worst abominations on the road.(Can you say "fartcans".) I wasn't an English or journalism major in college, so to clear up any misuderstandings from my posts in this thread............
1) "White Knight"- It was the picture of the wrecked Zero that caught my attention & prompted Post#156. At the time of posting, I had not read "m"'s intervening rebuke, or the complete content of your banter with "l".My post was solely directed at your post #154, nothing else.
2) "Sniff Test". Again directed to factual errors, not at your opinion/context of US vs Japan machinery. Mr. Sepilio did list on his website Papua, New Guinea as the location of the Zero wreck, not Pearl Harbor. The Zero is powered by a Nakajima Sakae type engine, not a Mitsubishi engine. I still stand by these corrections.
3) "Fine Article", "Good Comparison"- This was meant to laud the scope, and quality of Mr. Meyers comparitive reports on WW2 fighters, not to imply that the Zero got a glowing review (it didn't, but Mr. Meyer duly noted the Zero's relative strength in some areas).
4) I googled Doris(Dorie) Miller, and came up with many accounts of his heroic deeds on 7 Dec 1941. I admire, and appreciate his (and many others) acts on that dark day in history.
However, Mr. Miller was actually stationed on the USS West Virginia, not the Arizona as you stated. Your comment of "this is the fact Jack" leads me to think that you believe pictured wreck to be 1 of the 6 planes that Mr. Miller allegedly shot down.(I say allegedly, because different accounts say 3, 4 , or "several", Mr. Sepiolos credits notwistanding). I googled "Pearl Harbor Attack Force", and actually got a page with photographs of recovered wrecked Japanese aircraft from 7 Dec attack. All of the planes salvaged from Pearl Harbor waters were torpedo or dive bombers. The Zeros that were recovered crashed on land.
My motivation for joining SW was not to get into pissing contests with other members. I believe that one going down this road ought to at least get their facts straight.
PS- Sorry about bad link. Try avweb.com, then homepage search function, typing in "Japanese Zero". The link to part 1 of article appearing on search result is "Pelicans Perch #71.

I was making a left at a blinking red and the two cars in front of me went without yielding. I followed suit because I thought the light was green. I got hit by a truck going 45 mph on the driver's side. The window shattered all over me and the door crushed in on my leg. I was shifting into second when I got hit so when the manual window knob flew off on impact the metal piece (see picture #1) penetrated my leg. I have a small scar and my muscle is slightly curved inward/damaged from that. I got hit by a car going 45 mph on the passenger side door, but I didn't know that I got hit twice until I woke up in the ambulance. I was unconscious and unfortunately Diamond Star Motors did not introduce air bags until 1995 in Eagle Talons (second generation). I did have my seatbelt on though, and the doctors told me it likely saved my ability to walk.

Damn Laurisa you were lucky @@@
I also totaled an earlier Talon I owned ... a 95 TSI AWD. Believe it or not, some idiot dropped an empty refrigerator box off a pickup into the middle of a 2 lane state highway right in front of me. Not knowing whether it was empty or not, I yanked the wheel to the right at about 60mph and launched the car some 75 ft off the road, missing the tree line by about 3 feet !!! Luckily everybody involved 'walked away' without anything more than a scratch.
A lady cop threw the book at me though, because the MOFO who dropped the refrigerator box came back, picked it up, and disafuckinpeared just before the cop arrived on the scene. For some reason I never have those problems with male cops LOL !

Seatbelts save lives. When New Jersey first permitted right turns on red a common occurrence was the car behind a car making a right on red and didn't look assumed the light turned green and went straight through a red light with similar results.
For the record, even with auto trans my 98 Talon would run in the 13's bone stock when it was new.
Most people will get a faster time with an automatic because a stick requires near perfect driver operation to get the best times. It is on a road course where a stick is at its best.
As for 1/4 mile times for factory stock vehicles this site has a list compiled from reliable sources; mostly automotive testing entities. These times are faster than one will get at the track because they are corrected to perfect SAE conditions.

Come on Earl we've all seen cars do far worse and far better than their projected 1/4 mile times, and they don't mean anything anymore because of how old those cars are. ::) I wan to see the projected 1/4 mile times for Melonie's car. Unless it had a motor swap I can tell it's N/T from the picture though. She didn't put the model up unless I missed it.
The 5 spds versus the automatics in the DSM line usually didn't have a significant amount of extra horsepower anyway, and unless you install a shift light it's going to be hard to get a near perfect shift. Doesn't mean it can't happen though, does it? I bought a 1992 Pontiac Sunbird SE that is a 5 spd and it actually has a shift light installed, it's kind of weird because I'll look down sometimes and I shift perfectly, but other times I'm way off.
I guess it just depends.

Come on Earl we've all seen cars do far worse and far better than their projected 1/4 mile times, and they don't mean anything anymore because of how old those cars are. .
Those times are not projected they are actual test results with real cars new at the time of testing with the best drivers the magazines and other facilities have. The cars are checked to make sure they are factory stock.
The driver gets a feel for the car and then does three runs the best time is then corrected for air tempture, altitude and barometric pressure using a SAE table; Edmonds’ criticizes Car and Driver and others for using an old correction formula that gives them about a .2 second quicker time then the proper new table.
This gives the entire story enjoy. Let's just say the times are accurate.
If the outdated correction factor is combined with rollout, the results can be dramatic. The following example is based on data from a single run of our test car. Here you can see the effects that the worst-case combination of correction factor and rollout can have on a 0-60 time.
Correction SAE J1349 (current) without Rollout 0-60 8.61 (sec) with Rollout 8.3 (sec) 1/4 mile with Rollout 16.44 (sec) @ 83.85 mph.
Correction SAE J607 (obsolete) without Rollout 0-60 8.23 (sec) with Rollout 7.92 (sec) 1/4 mile with Rollout 16.17 (sec) @ 85.03 mph.
I'm not hating on mustangs, its just that most of the guys I see driving them are 22-year-old douche bags ...
Thank you I would love to be mistaken for a 22 year old anything. Do you know my Mustang has a hooligan button? When I push it at any speed it turns off the traction and stability control. :stop:
BTW when I said cars dump oil on the track it had nothing to do with the age of the car, if a car is leaking oil it will not be permitted to race. I was talking about modifications that push the drive train beyond its designed limits. A Mustang GT can safely be modified to 400 HP and Ford will honor the full factory warrantee if done at time of purchase.
Third party vendors sell bolt on modifications that will push the little 4.6 to over 600 HP but without internal upgrades something will explode and dump oil on the track.
This one dumped more than oil.
Laurisa

^^ Projection: a prediction made by extrapolating from past observations. I'm pretty sure my use of the word was proper, because I was stating that those 1/4 mile times were the projected (which is synonymous with estimated) times for all of the cars that met that criteria. (i.e. year, model).
I am aware that dumping oil on the track can be caused by improper modifications, but it can also be caused by cam seals going bad over time and numerous other factors that come with an aging vehicle, several years of wear and tear, etc. Do I really have to name them all? Big oil leaks that wet the whole track are usually caused by faulty modifications though, you are correct.
I wasn't saying that you are a 22-year-old, but most of the people around here that drive them sure are and they think they know everything when they can't even check their tire pressure. ::) Those kind of guys really get me going.

Those times were not predictions they are real times achieved by real drivers in real cars. Math is an exact science and the testers set up a weather station where the test is taking place so the SAE correction factor can be exactly calculated to make all tests equal. The SAE correction factor is used to determine HP ratings for auto manufactures and when dynamometer testing. I get better times as the weather gets colder. This is science not guessing.

You know if you dynoed every car brand new off the lot even if they were the exact same car there would be some slight differences in HP, right? I'm saying those are the estimated 1/4 mile times for the entire line of those cars, I'm not saying they were not really achieved by someone at a certain time. You're missing my point but I'm getting frustrated so I'll stop trying to explain.

Of course they would have "slight differences" if they were built right. That is why racing engines are blueprinted to get maxium power.

Ironically ( considering the direction of this thread ) I experienced a 'flat tire' ... not on my car but one of my breast implants. Since these were custom made saline implants, it made me question how long it would be before the other implant sprung a leak as well. I had the opportunity to participate in an experimental program for polypropylene string implants ( which are leakproof ) and I went for it.

Anyone wanting to go through a "EYFHO" exercise: That Mustang cost US Govt. $58,246 back in the 40's, some were bought at govt. auctions in the 50's for $2.5K. For pics & current prices, go to courtesyaircraft.com, inventory page link.

Damm winter, my Z is already away. Going to try to get one or two more nights out in the vette before snow/salt force it to hide until the 1st hard rains of March.
One thing I do in the middle of winter is un-cover my vette and sit in it. Just its smell reminds me of a warm summer night with the T tops off.

It is supposed to snow tomorrow. Do you just let them sit or do you start them and move all the parts?

Z goes to heated storage. Not started or moved Nov. thru March. Vette stays at house. I start the vette about every 2 weeks, move it alittle and will even run up the road if its dry and somewhat salt free.

Point of order; the Ford Mustang was named after a WWII fighter the P-51 Mustang.

Then why is there an emblem of a horse and not a plane on the car?

Yea.. ugly freaking color believe me, and it's hard to maintain a low profile in the silly thing. I can say it is a 5 speed manual, I love the heated seats, living in Michigan that saves my bum while I wait for it to heat up. I get 400 miles to 1 tank of gas. As ugly as my little bug is, it has been more a gem than a pearl ;)
I can't help it due to your name Earl_The_Pearl, how many miles do you get when driven (innocent look)

My husband and I own and run a 'Pedal Pumping' website - so we have a number of cars.
However my personal transports are a 1997 BMW 535i (Right Hand Drive) - and a beautiful black 1996 Thunderbird 4.6V8 LX which is awaiting my collection when I get to North Carolina in April:

Hey! It's my boyfriends car!
Mind you, he's not a "22- year old douche bag who doesn't know how to change the oil". He's def. a 'car person', and actually, taught me how to drive a car!
He could probably build a car from the bottom up, but seeing as he's in school and lacks the funds, he'll stick with his little pony for now, me thinks..
I drive a loser cruiser - mini-van. Not complaining if it gets me from point A to point B!
