Rebecca, you really rock. You do. As said above, most girls would be whining and you're planning a tattoo. :goodvibes and really, i hope you come out ahead. Also, have you looked into alternative therapies like homeopathic or even witch doctoring?

Wow. You've got my best wishes, hon.
That's pretty high on the worst nightmare list for me. I live in a basement (prime spider real estate) and am waging war against the resident spiders with a big can of raid. It's at least 2 a day.
I keep hoping that they won't get their revenge!
BTW if you might have customers, is their any way that you could wrap the wound? Even temporarily? Or would that be bad for the healing process?

off to the doctor with me. finally!
Edited to Add:
FUCK YEAH!!!
I get to keep my leeeeg, I gets to keeps mah leeeeeg, woohooo....!!!
*keeps singing the leg song*
Although they did totally cut my leg open in several different places without any kind of pain killer whatsoever and drained out enough blood and other stuff to make the table I was on look like a prop from a medical-themed horror gorefest kinda movie. Small bits of tissue were removed too but not a lot. It huuuurt and I screeeeaaaamed like you have no idea. But now that they did that it feels so much better oh my god. I go back in a couple days to see the doctor for a follow up but most importantly...

I'm so glad for you!! It sounds like a nightmare, but at least you know its going to be ok.
(And I am weird and morbid, but I would like to see pics if you have any.:D )

sure.
here is one of the lesions, the one on my knee. by the time of this picture it was about as big as my knee cap, like the solidified feeling tissue under the skin i mean. since they cut it open and drained it today it is a lot less big. which is so nice. the right side of the picture shows what it looked like fresh cleaned, but the bloodied side is what it looked like more often than not. the pic is a few days old and i am all bandaged up now so i cannot really take any pictures of the cuts or nothing. but oh did they hurt, although i can now move my knee again which is super great.

^^Ahh! That looks so painful! Glad you get to keep your leg now. Can you walk better now?
RebeccaSolidarity
05-30-2008, 12:55 PM
quite a bit better, yeah. it does not look like my right leg is made of wood anymore! since i kind of had to limp around while keeping it perfectly straight. though i got pretty good at that after awhile. but now i can bend my knee almost as well as if it were healthy, though it still feels funny, so i guess i can walk better but it is still painful and preferable to not walk at all.
i think i may go out tonight actually if the vicodin continues to work as well as it has been since the doctor this morning.
i think i maybe deserve some fun -outside- after everything that has been going on.

me too!
when i told the new doctor (woman) about the old doctor (man) telling me about amputation she got all mad and indignant on my behalf, saying he should have never even mentioned the thought to me so early on in the diagnosis. she actually listened to me about where i was feeling pain and where i was not, got a good description of the area i was in when i first got symptoms, and all of that. and she did not freak out when i told her that i eat glass for the sideshow! (most doctors freak out over that) she thought it was pretty cool in fact. she is a totally awesome doctor actually (experienced and rad as hell on the trans stuff too) and i think the one good thing to come out of all of this is that i may have found my new primary care physician.

You really DO have the most amazing spirit...:)
Hoping it will continue to go well and glad you finally found a decent doctor!
Just don't overdo, your body has been through a hella' lot and with the meds, you don't want to weaken your system more...
I think eating glass is also amazing!

Yayyoouuu!!!
Yay finding a decent doctor!
While you are healing, you can learn to say I can eat glass, it does not hurt me (http://www.icaneatglass.com/) in a zillion different languages. (Or maybe this link is working better. (http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=493597) I'm not sure whether archive.org is absent or has been c3nsor3d by teh Chinese internet.)

Awesome doc, and YAY about your leg.
In the pic, those two white dots/holes: is that where the spider's fangs went in?

LOL. Yes, Bexx0r here was a touch late becoming entirely a woman. She got there, though.

This whole thread makes me want to harness my cleaning/organizing OCD to ensure that no brown recluse spider will ever dare to make a home near me. YEOW!
Glad to see this ended well.

and yeah, the holes are where i was bitten. i would assume anyway. maybe not, cause there was a third but it was smaller and got crowded out by one of the other two. my thigh has similar holes. of course, the ones on my thigh were cut open with a scalpel so now it looks like this weird cut with a big hole in the middle shapey thing...?
Your awesome. I'm glad your leg isn't dead.
i could make a really AWFUL joke right now and be all 'well, its not like i have never experienced phantom limb before' but in the interest of no more morbid humor i will keep my fingers off the keyboard.
eh-hrm. hrm hrm hrm....
and thank you ^_^
You are so awesome. Hilarious. :)
Keep your spirit up! I am so glad you have good news on your leg. When I first saw the bite, I seriously felt sick. But I hate spiders... and the mere suggestion of
"maggot therapy" really put me over the edge.
Anyway, good luck!!!! Im rootin' for ya!

Wow-I couldn't cope with pics, but I'm glad it's doing better. My brother got bit by one and had to have a piece taken out of his back. Ouch! Yay for keeping your leg!
