I wish I read this thread BEFORE I danced in SF for a few months.
I wish I could take back my whole 2 month experience there. At the time I felt like I had no choice.
It is for sure not for everyone. I lived there for a year after reading glowing reviews in clubs and reviews.... ohh boy was I unprepared.

L.A.
Speaking of LA, my friends little sister was dancing there...my friend said she was bringing in around 1000 a night (insert laughter here). I explained to her how bad it is there right now and that it was doubtful she was making that much unless she was a serious, serious extras girl. (which wouldn't suprise me...she has before). She was like "oh no, she's clean!". Bull.

so is that to say that extras are the norm in los angeles?
I keep hearing horrifying things about how it is there. I had one girlfriend tell me about a place called Sams..... she claimed to be making a bundle??

I just have to say (especially with all this TX hate) Austin has never been bad to me
The only problem is the frequent Houston visitors, but management has always backed up the dancers

LA sucks.. Even way back when I was there it was questionable. I spent a year there - I've heard it's just gone down the crapper.
Houston? I grew up there, started there. Now, it's just scary. I'd love to go to Dallas or Austin, but dang. It sounds like it's not worth the hassle.

Amsterdam for the seedy clubs and extremely high mileage (money to be made though but not worth it in my opinion).

I've recently been travelling around the country, stopping in different cities for a month, and dancing there because, really, I had nothing better to do with my life AND I really enjoy both travelling and exploring the stripping scene in different places. That being said--it's been really rough, mainly because of the economy and also because of the well-documented influx of recently laid off mid-twenties professionals that are now choosing to dance because they need to pay rent.
HOWEVER--some places have been better than others. Texas, I've found, has been awesome (esp Austin, I made tons of money there), but I think it had to do a lot with my look--a lot of tatts and crazy colored hair was really popular at the club I worked at. But in general, even in the smaller towns that were more conservative, I've consistantly made good money there. I think it's because of oil money maybe? Who knows. It's also fun to work Texas because people there always have FUN--it's not like other places where guys come in and sit and feel guilty for being in a titty bar. In Texas, at least it seems to me, guys truly feel comfortable in titty bars and its more socially acceptable. Maybe I'm wrong, but I got that vibe at least.
BUT--back to topic, by far and away the shittiest places have been Los Angeles (where I am now currently until May), San Diego, and Tampa, FL. To be expected, as bigger cities on the coasts are generally hit harder by a recession than the smaller ones in the middle of the country (due to lifestyle, cost of living, ect). Los Angeles takes the cake though--IT BLOWS HERE! I worked yesterday and sat in my club for literally 5 hours and saw ONE customer come in, who bought two nude dances from me, and then promptly left. I work in a nice, high end club too. But I've also worked 5 other places here, and they all seem to be the same way--NO ONE is going to the strip clubs anymore, and because of this, the owners are all getting greedy and charging the girls INSANELY HIGH tip out fees. Maybe it's always been this way in LA, but I've never seen management take over 50% of what a girl makes! It's, on average, a 20-25 dollar house fee, per night, which doesn't seem bad, but then they take 7 bucks out of a 20 dollar dance, and 16 out of a 40 dollar dance, and more out of champagne and VIP areas. Then it's a "mandatory tip out" (oxymoron anyone?) of 10-20 for the DJ, a dollar per song to the waitress, same to the three door guys, and 20 bucks to the manager.
This happens at EVERY strip club here, with it being slightly less for lower end clubs and bikini bars, and higher for higher end and nude clubs.
It's ridiculous! On top of that, every club has a million girls working for them, and probably 40-50 on rotation EVERY NIGHT. At any given time, the ratio of girls to guys is TERRIBLE--one guy for every 10-20 girls.
Every now and again there will still be a few high-rollers, old school style that come in, and regulars, but for the most part, that happens once a week or less now.
San Diego is very similar, although the tip outs are not nearly as horrid. It's just in San Diego, it costs 300+ dollars for a year long permit, and there is absolutely no touching and it's incredibly hard to sell dances. Even the standby military men are spending less and less as they are becoming wiser and saving money for the future. Most of what the bread and butter of San Diego strip clubs consist of are military men--especially in towns like Oceanside. On any given night, I'd say 60-80% of the club population are military men. Which is good for me--they generally like my look, but bad in that they are young and rude and don't have hardly any money.
Tampa doesn't suck as bad with stage fees, and it was pretty good during the Superbowl, but considering what it SHOULD have been like, and what Superbowls have been in the past, things are definately bad. Mostly, people come in and tip a few bucks onstage then sit and drink and leave. A few wealthy rappers came in, but other than that, 90% of the people that came in bought either none or between 1-3 dances. SUCK!
I hear bad things about San Fran, which is where I'm headed next, and that's not good, but it also seems to me that the entire country is suffering from the same ills. It is horrible EVERYWHERE right now, except for small town, rural America, where it will ALWAYS be good. I don't really know what to do, other than to work longer, and harder and hope it gets better.

No more of this $150/night BS, which would at least be $350 if the club didn't take 60% of my hard-earned money.
WORD! I HATE IT HERE WHERE THEY TAKE ALL YOUR MONEY! I've never danced in a city that took that much! It's ridiculous because if you say anything about it they try to say "well that's just the way it is in dance clubs". It's like, no, that is NOT how it is, it's not anywhere NEAR industry standards! I think all the dancers in LA should band together and strike and refuse to work at clubs until they lower tip outs and house fees and "mandatory tipping". I know that will never work though because there are always other girls desparate for money that dont know any better, especially in these economic times. It's actually kinda sad at my work--when I started I asked the girls about tip out and they happily said "oh only 13 dollars for every 40 dollar dance, plus 25 for house fees, and a dollar a dance to the doorguys, the management, the DJ, the waitresses." SO if you add it all up, you only keep 21 dollars out of every 40 dollar dance, and these girls think that's GOOD? When I told them how OTHER places work they were floored. I felt so bad that these girls were being taken advantage of like that since they just didn't know any better! I think that's why the managent here gets away with it--it seems like most of the girls here haven't really been anywhere else and don't know any better. Sad sad.
So you say the money is better in San Fran? WHich club? I'm thinking of heading up there next month.

Wow. I feel really, really stupid now. I live in LA - I have all my life - and figured it was a great place to start stripping. And I really didn't see myself moving for a job like that. I guess I'm completely screwed. I'm also really suprised you girls have traveled around the country dancing in different clubs! My gosh how do you find the time to do that?

Providence,RI is by far the most disgusting city I've ever worked in. Prostitution is legal (all though right now they are fighting to change the law). Even at the so-called classy club the guys still know whats legal and if you don't consent to letting them touch you EVERYWHERE they wont even buy a $25 dance. Nevermind trying to sell a VIP or room! If you tell the guys your not that kind of girl they will make a big scene and actually yell at you and tell you you don't know how to do your job. scarry. Just run from Providence!!!!!

Those are my fees :P just add a $40 drink quota to that. (actually I keep $23 if I tip the bare minimum which I don't do because my life will become more difficult than it already is....) Last Saturday I made $910 and drove home with $465... I remember my first night making about $220 and thinking wow I did OK (first night haha) and a girl told me the fees and that I would go home with about $100 (I drove home with $115 and cried, I couldn't believe it.
I've only danced in LA so hopefully there's only up to go from here... it sucks! And the customers are horrible, but their asshole-ness is fueled by how any extras there are...

Since when is prostitution legal in Providence?? It certainly wasn't legal when I danced there :o
Here's my addition to the list of worst "cities" to dance in: Casper, Wyoming. OMG this place was absolutely the worst kind of fail I think I've ever seen in a strip club. NO MONEY. I mean, NO money. Guys would climb up on the stage and lie on their backs for dancers to dry hump them for half a song on stage for ONE DOLLAR. No wonder no one bought any dances all night long - they get their lap/bed dances on stage for $1.
DJ doesn't even know how to use the equipment so the girls go into the booth and setup their own music for each set. The bartender (wearing old lady house slippers) announced the girls from behind the bar. WTF are those girls paying the DJ for??
Maybe 5 barflies were in the club all night, not spending money. Girls sat around and drank and played cards with the guys between stage sets.
Don't even get me started on the disgusting "dressing room" and rest of the club. I work in some serious dives but this place was a whole new level of sad.
Horrible. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this place. Then again, maybe I would ;D

South Florida isn't that great. Not only is the money terrible here, but a lot of girls will do anything to get in that back room for a lapdance/vip and all the clubs are overrun with girls because money is so down. Since December, I've seen an unusual amount of girls start up at a club only to work just one shift and saying that they've been all over the clubs down here and can't make any money.
I've heard this, and unfortunately, I live in south florida now :P. Well I am currently working another job and going to school, so I guess I won't try it out around here. I went to a club one night, as a customer and paid a girl to just stay with me for the 2 feature songs (and tipped extra) and I asked her some questions. She said money was terrible, she had only made $80 and it was already 1:00 and that Cheetah's in Sarasota may be better, but was all nude and basically dirty. Also the girls outnumbered the customers like 2 to 1! No joke!

I can't imagine dancing at a club with fees. Besides one day where I danced at a place that charged me $40, I've only been at a club that had a $10 tip out. Why work somewhere that takes half your money?

San Fran is HORRIBLE, and the reason why I ended up moving to Guam. I was originally working at the Lusty Lady I thought a PAYCHECK would be the way to go. My weekly paychecks there never topped $250 and that was 3-4 4 hour shifts a week. I went to Garden of Eden during the holiday season which was a nightmare! they gave out charity dances and my stage fees got up to $200. The last club I worked at a few months ago was the Hungry I. the staff and girls were surprisingly super nice. The money was HORRIBLE. My first night both my friend and I did not make $1 !!! I had to go home with NO money in my pockets after a full night of work...horrible. I went for a visit a few weeks ago and went to centerfold. Beautiful girls working there and no one was making money. I saw dancer after dancer get on stage for nothing. I talked to a few girls and they said they were pulling 12 hour shifts for $60. yikes!

Houston. By a country mile. In side the city limits the women have to wear full back and latex. But outside the city they have club where the women are totally nude and topless. They will give you a dance license but for the most part they are USELESS. As there are NO clubs that have a SOB licence.
The customers expect everything and a bag of chips for nickels and dimes. The girls left are not that pretty and more than willing to do anything for a dollar.
If you are a good girl you make NO money.

That's pretty much true, I've danced in Houston for a very long time and let me tell you then was nothing like now. It used to be money in Houston but not anymore since they brought the latex and full bottoms back. I haven't danced here in almost 2 yrs now. I got out before it got super bad. Pretty much every girl I know that used to make really good money like me, left the business. I've thought about dancing but not in Houston. It's extremely slutty in this city.:P

Yes, awful! WPB is seasonal, dead now.
All Miami is prostitution. The immigrants ruined the industry. They're stupid. They get hustled by the customers. They're all desperate, no green cards...
They've brought down the levels, they'll sell out for nothing! My friend, who is drop dead gorgeous, and a hustler, makes $200-$300/nite max, in Miami & Ft Laud.
The guys know they can spend $50 in the back with these idiots and get sexed! - Everybody goes home broke!

seconded, I work in Providence and occasionally I get a proposition for BJ or sex, and I just say politely say, "sorry, i don't do that," and move on to the next customer. Sometimes they look all sad and be like "Really? Please? Why not? Are you sure?" but I'll just laugh and leave.
I sell VIP and champagne without extras, too, and the majority of my customers are fine. If they get too handsy for comfort I either give em a hint or tell em to stop, and then it's ok. It's really rare that they'll give me extra trouble for it, and if they do, I ignore them and walk away.
But then again, I like working Sundays and day shifts.

Anyway, I think all this is just relative to the girl. You can't say a whole area is shitty just because you didn't make money there...chances are some clean girls are banking everywhere.
I read a lot about Toronto being horrible to dance in, no money, high contacts, blah blah blah....but I do really well here. *shrugs*
