Yeah that is where we want to adopt a Dane from too. I like that they are so willing to help educate people about the breed. I am always looking at their website checking out all the photos of the adorable Danes. I love that they post pics of the ones that get adopted with their new family :).

and smart. and adorable. and awesome. and they have ears so big they can almost fly like dumbo.
I also really like jack russel terriers. I was going to get one maybe a year or two ago, but was convinced not to because of their energy and destructive nature. Now that I know more abotu dogs, I wish I would have gotten him. Of crouse, then I would have never gotten my baby, so everythign works out the way it should.
But, the English Sheepdog...when I was a child, my gramma had one, her name was Anna. I loved that dog. she was great. I also once had a Great Pyrenese, her name was Belle...there was this tv show, abotu a boy and his dog Belle, who was a Great Pyrenese.... Anyway. Her nickname was Cow Belle, cause, she was huge. massive huge. Gentle Giant.
]
I agree these are my favorites, especially the Pomeranian. But When I finally buy a house I'd like a big dog.
I remember as a kid I watched a Nickolodean show called "Bell", with a big white dog and a little boy. Does anyone remember that cartoon? When I finally buy my house I think I'd like that dog. It kind of looked like a big white St. Bernard.
LOL. They are awesome pets.

My fave large dogs are Rotts, my first dog was a Rott and they are faultless to live with. Perfect house dogs.
My fave little dogs are Chinese Crested Powderpuffs, because I have two. They are cute, energetic, aloof and zany. I think thier heads exploded then just glitter and party streamers would come out!

True! My dog is a mutt (German short-haired pointer and whippet to be exact), is 13 years old and healthy as hell. He has the best personality and even people who don't like dogs that much love the hell out of him. Mutts have a lot less health and behavior problems compared to other dogs. I saw it when I worked as a veterinarian technician since I was 18 years old.
Everybody's pooch is adorable! I'd take everybody's dog if I could.
I used to have a pitt-bull/shar-pei named Phoebie. Single stupidest dog on the face of the planet, but damn if she wasn't cute! We think she was part pig too cause she had a speckled pig belly, lol. Adopted from the Boulder Valley Humane Society!
The only difficult part with her, stupidity aside, was that people were afraid of her cause she looked a whole lot more pitt-bull than shar-pei and she came from an abusive situation so she was scared of teenage boys, skateboards, and brooms.
That said though, I grew up around "vicious" breeds like Red Face Pitt Bulls, Rotties, and Dobermans and I've never had anything but love from them! I learned to walk holding onto the collar of Butchie, a very large rottweiler. My mom would let me out in the back yard alone with her and knew Butchie would babysit me perfectly, like "Good Dog Carl" style. I legally own a Red-Face named Mae (as in Mae West, lol) who is the coolest dog known to man, but she lives in Hawaii. Also another rescue there.
I will NOT trust a Chow though. Waaaayyyy too protective and I believe statisticly, those dogs are the most likely to bite humans, although I am a firm believer that it is not the breed but rather the training and environment. Still, Chows are too protective to be trusted.

shar peis/pitbulls have a bad rap too, im suprised your stereotyping one breed when you have a breed that gets stereotyped all the time.

Bichon Frise.
I don't like the scruffy dog look much. I like black lab mixes the best. They are solid citizens. Big is better. German shepard, doberman, boxer, pit bull. But they have to have the sweet personality. Unsafe is scarey.

Flower - little terrier x
I don't think I have a favorite breed but I do have a soft spot for "hard to place" animals. You know.... ones who need a little extra love & care.
I've worked 6 years now at a no kill shelter, everycreaturecounts.org. If it wasn't for my boyfriend I would be that crazy hoarder lady :)
I hate walking through "kill" shelters knowing we can't save every dog :'( You just hope that the dog you couldn't take found a home.
Sorry to get all serious, I bummed myself out :(

I didn't say your dog had ever attacked anyone. What I'm saying is that from what I have heard, (this is not research and is merely word of mouth) Chows attack humans and other dogs more than any other breed.

Stats on breeds most likely to bite:
Here's a look at the various dog breeds that are considered potentially aggressive.
* Chow Chows are one-person dogs that tend to bite without any warning. They are also a bit ferocious around strangers, and can be quite a tenacious fighter. So make sure to discipline this dog and set right from wrong, immediately.
* The Papillon is fiercely loyal of their owners - to a fault. They can be quite possessive and standoffish to strangers.
* Old English Sheepdogs are very protective of their owners so they might be aggressive if anybody tends to be too close to its owners.
* A Llasa Apso often gets cranky around kids.
* Rottweilers are extremely protective of their masters.
* Chihuahuas aren't too fond of kids. They'd rather be with adults than play around with tots.
* Toy Poodles bite people and other animals out of self defense. Unfortunately, 'playing' according to you may be perceived as a form of 'attack' to them.
* Dachshunds aren't known for their patience.
* Jack Russell Terriers are feisty creatures who require early training to prevent long-term biting and digging problems.
* Giant Schnauzers are very dominant. They often challenge adults, particularly strangers.
* Cocker Spaniels often suffer from a dangerous genetic disease known as "rage syndrome." This syndrome causes spontaneous violent action against not strangers, but actual family members. Many Spaniels have been put down because of this unwanted behavior. Check with the breeder to ensure your Spaniel is free from this dangerous dog disease.
* The Pekingese isn't all that tolerant of strangers.
* Miniature Pinschers usually have aggression issues because they've got this "big dog-little body" mind set going on.

I grew up with many chow chows, they are my mothers favorite breed.
We had a male chow who was generally friendly, except he had food aggression. I was babysittin gmy friedns 2 year old who walked up to him and pulled his tail. The baby got 6 stitches in his face, the dog grabbed his cheek and chin.
I was layign on the floor watchign tv, the dog was eating a boen next to me. I rolled over and kinda bumped into him. He bite me in the eye. I have a scar....but when I was in the bathroom putting a bandaid on it, he came in with his tail wagging and put his head down in my lap, then laid on the floor in front of me with his head down. Did he know he did wrong?
My mom's other chow chow is a female. She is the sweetest dog to humans ever. My mom holds her liek a baby and she lieks it. She has never so much as growled at any person, ever. Althoguh she has always been shy around strangers.
However..every single chow we have ever had, even raised from puppies, they have all eaten my cats. every single one. even the sweet little girl who never growled at a human has tore up many cats. I don't know why....I tried showing them as puppies how to treat the cats, but without fail, every chow has eaten my cats. They are the dogs I talkd bout in my other thred abotu how my mom's dogs ate my cats and if they didnt kill them, she took them to the humane society.
For this reason, I do not care for the chow breed, and being a cat lover and owner, I will never own a chow. I do not trust them not to eat cats. ( or any small animal)
but around humans...with being raised properly, I dont think chows are at any higer risk that a rottie for biting a human unprovoked. ( meaning, I don't believe any dog will bite unprovoked, with proper raising)

Interesting. I heard the same thing about Chow Chows. My brother had a puppy Chow Chow & it always growled at ppl. He gave that dog away, he has no patience for any animal. lol.
The 4 year old Old English Sheep dog I saw, his own said he loves ppl & never once in his life bit someone. He def. has him well trained. It's so sweet.

Chinese SharPei and English Bulldog.
I had a shar-pei for a little over nine years. She was my baby girl. Unfortunately I had to let her go in 2005 due to kidney failure, that was most likely caused by her lifelong epileptic seizures and medication. I miss her soooo much.
Now my baby boy Bubba (bulldog) is almost three and I just love him to death. Bulldogs are really just sweet and loveable all the time. He's the best boy ever!

My Jack Russell Terrier provides endless entertainment for me, she seems to live in a world of her own. She has learned to calm down and is quite lovable, enjoys affection.
My bf's Britney Spaniel is so adorable I just want to lay around with her all day. It's fun to watch her hunt, she seems to go in "stealth mode"!

Awesome dogs...referred to as hyper-allergenic because they barely shed at all. So people with allergies can often own one without a problem. Their fur can get matted, so make sure they are clipped every few months and brushed on a reg basis. But they are great lovable dogs.

I disagree.
If you want a pet, then rescue is fine for most people.
But my next dog will be a purebred show/working dog that I can obtain a CH title with, and eventually (if OFA tests come back acceptable to me, and he shows no excessive faults) breed.
You can't show or breed a substandard dog or mutt.

The point I believe is that due to excessive overpopulation,a lot of us are against breeding. Because too many DO breed "substandard" animals..it isnt about furthering, improving or loving the breed..its about selfish greed and profit for them
If you are going to be a responsible breeder(of which there are relatively few),thats one thing...but most people are not. So for the AVERAGE person looking for a pet... rescues, etc are the best thing. Saving an animal is far better then supporting puppy mills(by buying from pet stores) or a backyard breeder(which you'll find on craigslist, newspapers, etc...etc...)
TRUE breeders have VERY rigid standards and high HIGH prices due to all that goes into responsible breeding. So if you are just looking for a family pet and not planning to get into all the time, energy,costs,etc...of showing and breeding properly...you should rescue.

Irish Wolfhounds... Because they are ENORMOUS!
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images15/IrishWolfhoundFrankBrendan.JPG
And that is not even as big as they can get. They can get quite a bit larger than that, and they are some of the nicest and most well behaved gentle beasts in al the world.
Big enough to ride, sometimes! They can actually reach up to seven feet tall when standing on their hind legs.
Rottweilers too, ever since I found Shotgun my heart has pretty much been all about the Rottweilers all over the place.

You can find Pure breds at shelters or a rescue group. Every breed out there has a rescue group, they're mostly older dogs.
My Pointer is a pure bred that my friend rescued fro the pound. He's the best dog ever! To echo others, if you're getting a pure bred, get one from a reputable breeder, do your research. But there are awesome dogs at the pound waiting for a home too.

We had a client when I was a tech who had a Rottie/West Highland terrier mix. UGLIEST damn dog I have EVER seen!!! HUGE head.,..stocky body, squat legs, wiry salt and pepper hair...he was a sweetie though!
They said the male Westie mounted the female Rottie before they could get either fixed. It didnt even dawn on them to hurry because they figured the two of them mating was impossible! Never assume when it comes to nature!! The female LAID DOWN for him!!
They got them fixed right quick after the pups were born!

My friend has a dog that was jack russell/great dane. She looked like a mini great dane, her head was a little too big for her body too.
They figured the jack must have snuck up on the big mama dane when she was asleep.
Wow.........what a combo; unbelievable, I wish you had a pic of that dog!
