Are there really that many real hippies left or around anymore? The same thing happened to hippie that happened to punk. Ugh is all I can say to that.
The original hippies and their militant cousins the yippies were cool IMO. I quite dig those who try to follow the original ideals although I sometimes find the hippy thing a little soft for want of a better word.
I lived on a commune in a shack with no running water, electricity or transport on 214 acres of land with hipies (and punks) back in the 80s and I would definatly do it again.

:goodvibes :peace: :trip:

My mother was a hippie. I have a lot of hippie friends. This area has a ton of em. I'm a bit of a neo hippie myself. I'd start a commune in a heartbeat.

to the rainbow gathering's defense.... out of 4-6 thousand people, a group of supposedly 400 being violent is not really representative of the group as a whole. maybe 10 percent of them are like that, but 75 percent of the world is corrupt and violent too.

Where I grew up, 'hippie' meant some asshole Scottsdale teenager with dreads who didn't have their facts straight and probably couldn't live without Starbucks in the morning. So I admit I was a little prejudiced...then I moved to Fort Collins, CO and adopted a smelly hippie kid who slept on my couch. I basically had to get used to them or move away. Now, they are just like any other demographic to me; some are assholes, some aren't.

But once a Greenpeace guy pushed me over :(
